Diner Reviews
  • "This is one of our favorite restaurants. We love everything about Alexander's. We tried the pasta dishes this time and both were awesome. The wine...Cinnabar...perfect! Love our server, Eric. Friendly, funny, consummate host. We enjoy sitting outside; the water feature and the heaters, make for a night evening under the stars. As always, a great night."

  • "We had a wonderful experience the first time we ate at Alexander's. We returned expecting it to be great again and were disappointed. We were, obviously, an irritant to the waiter and the food was only "OK.""

  • "I have been to this restaurant twice and had a great experience both times. Eric is the best server. My boyfriend and I went there in August and I still remember his service and friendliness. We went again this weekend and sat on the beautiful patio with a movie playing on the wall in the background. Food is delish!"

  • "Food and service were very good but waiting 45 minutes for a table even after having a reservation is unacceptable."

  • "My first time at the restaurant. My friend and I were greeted by very friendly staff. Our waiter was knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive. Food was absolutely phenomenal. Bread was warm. The salad was fresh and delicious. I had the White Pizza and it was the best pizza I've had in a long time. The whole roasted garlic was a nice touch. My friend had linguine with seafood and raved about it. Excellent wine list. I received a free desert for my birthday: Tiramisu. It was beautiful and delicious. Atmosphere: We sat in full dining area. Beautiful White decorations, white flowers were a nice tough. We could barely here the noise from the bar and patio, which we liked! I can't wait to come back to the Alexander's!"

  • "This has become one of our favorite restaurants. After three visits we have been pleasantly surprised at the consistently tasty dishes and the excellent service. We are willing to drive 25 miles to enjoy it."

  • "Alexander's delivers consistently delicious Italian food. From our collective times dining there, we have tried the Chicken Piccata, Tuscan Seafood Pasta, Baked Vodka Bolognese, Cannelloni, Alexander's Homemade Meat Lasagne, 38 Special Pizza, and Alexander's Spicy Ceasar Salad. Everything on the menu is solid. The Cannelloni, Tuscan Seafood Pasta, and 38 Special Pizza are my particular favorites."

  • "Some dishes were outstanding: try the fabulous scallop appetizer. I did not care much for the clam linguini with a ton of pancetta (ham/bacon) added, but the sauce was a light wine sauce, which I appreciate it particularly since so many venues have gone the way of heavy creamy sauces. Other dishes were also good, the lobster ravioli was noteworthy. I did not appreciate not being warned about the stiff price of the specials (not on menu), and consider this bad service. But overall I like the place and the food and will certainly go back to try more dishes on the menu."

  • "Beautiful ambiance and amazing food. They must really take care of their staff because I only go there for my anniversary, and we had the same waiter. He was very good."

  • "One of the best dining experiences I have ever had. The staff was attentive of all our needs and showed genuine care for our table. The food was absolutely delicious and cooked to perfection."

  • "I was really impressed by how romantic and amazing this restaurant was! I was astonished by the fact that when I signed up for the reservation, I wrote in the comment box if we could please have somewhat of a private table, it was a special evening and I wanted it to be unforgettable. I was taking my sister out for getting into San Diego State and I was also about to tell her that we were gonna go on a disney cruise in June! I was so happy that they actually did give us a separate table with a little more privacy. Alexanders was the perfect place for this unforgettable night. Perfect for any special occasion!"

  • "Still my favorite restaurant - love the interior and atmosphere. The filet mignon is the best, so good that I've had two weeks in a row. Love the lasagna....great wine selections...love the burrata and prosciutto salad.....amazing cookie dessert.....continuous great service, excellent food choices and presentation with each visit."

  • "Venture into a white oasis of decadent wine and succulent pasta. Your white linen tablecloths are lit by candlelight as you stare into your partner's eyes. Even in the most crowded situations, the ambiance will make you feel like you are the only people in the room. The servers are considerate, yet casual. These experts make you fell at home in the finest neighborhood restaurant in San Diego. Kudos!"

  • "We were in town to visit my Wife's parents who are in their 80's and rarely venture outside their retirement community. I did some research the previous week and stumbled upon Alexanders and it sounded like a great place to try. They seemed very apprehensive the whole day leading up to dinner and I was afraid it would be a disaster! The waiter was Rex who was awesome and made them comfortable and explained everything. (often more then once!!) The food and experience was great and the next morning they were bragging to everyone what a great dinner they had. I had the Chicken Piccata and was excellent. The women split a Linguine and Clam dinner and father in law had baked spaghetti with sausage. All plates were cleaned!"

  • "I was really impressed by Alexander's. I know sometimes it can be difficult to find good Italian food but they do a great job. The place is smaller but is classy and cool. The service was great, our water glasses were never empty. We made reservations but showed up early and the host was really accommodating and gave us a great table. For a Thursday night it wasn't too crowded. We sat at a large booth (which I prefer). Our server was very attentive and helpful, recommended a wine from the large list and items from the menu. Salads were great and the Baked Vodka Bolognese was delicious. The ambiance is modern and inviting. I feel like it's a diamond in the rough."

  • "we went to dinner here to celebrate my birthday and our server, Eric, was incredible. he never let our glasses fall below half empty. he also personally recommend a dish so I tried it and it was absolutely to die for. I loved every bite. my boyfriend got the meat lasagna and didn't really care for it so we ended up both eating my pasta but nevertheless it was still great service and great food and an amazing time."

  • "When you find a local restaurant that is special, you're a bit conflicted. You want everyone to know about it, but you don't want it to become so popular you can't get in anymore. Alexander's is like that. They offer really good food, pleasant ambience, decent wine line, and quality service. And it's in a chic neighborhood that's near everything. Highly recommended."

  • "Went with friend and family to celebrate a friend moving away. Initially made a reservation for inside and then found out about the Monday Night Special. In the patio, which was very comfortable with lots of heaters, $1 bottled beers and $6 pizzas (plus $2 per topping). Food was great! Placed filled up quick. Movie was showing on building wall outside and music group was setting up to play. Wish we could have stayed longer but - we'll definitely be back!"

  • "A beautiful restaurant serving delicious food, great ambiance, and quality service."

  • "Food was very good (husband had the filet) and I had the Tuscan Seafood Pasta (good but not outstanding), It was so loud in the restaurant, we had a really hard time hearing each other having conversation, so if you are looking for a quiet, romantic spot for a date, this is not it. The seating was terribly uncomfortable. They are the benches with straight vertical backs. OMG so uncomfortable! I couldn't wait to leave. We didn't stay for coffee and dessert for that reason. Not sure we would return. However, it has been there on the corner of 30th and Upas forever, and is a popular neighborhood spot."

  • "It was my first time here celebrating Valentine's with my honey for the first time as well. The food was good and the service great! Great little spot! Would like to try this place without the pre-fixe menu though."

  • "Great service! The waiter, Eric, knew the menu extremely well. I asked for them, the staff, to bring my wife and mother-in-law the jewelry I bought them with the dessert, as a surprise. They did it with a smile and they were fantastic to work with in making it a very special valentines day. The food was very good, and the dessert cookie was great. But it was the staff that made for a great experience. Thanks Alexanders!"

  • "We have been here many times and love this spot. However, this preset Vday menu and service was not great. The beer was room temperature, when we mentioned this, our nice server put one on ice for us. The server brought out our second course seconds after we received our first course, then had to turn around and leave since we weren't ready. We ordered two of the steak dinners which were both cold and overdone, the purple mashed potatoes were really cold. One was supposed to be medium-rare, but we heard the food runners saying they are all cooked the same and it didn't matter. Then it took forever to get our desert, we thought she had forgotten about us. All in all, not impressed on this night. It will be a while before we come back."

  • "We were pleasantly surprised with the sophisticated decor and the excellent meals. The lobster ravioli was wonderful, as was the lasagna. All in all, it was an intimate, satisfying experience."

  • "This restaurant is amazing! The food is absolutely delicious and the feel is very romantic and the interior design is beautiful. The only thing I didn't like was the seating. It's a bit small and tables are about 6-12 inches away from each other you're basically dining with the people next to you. The chicken piccata is delicious my boyfriend had the rib eye and it was great! I had wine and he had a stone IPA, for dessert we had the tiramisu. The food and ambiance is excellent however the seating is not so I would try to go on a weekday so that it's not as busy and you get a quieter/more private table."

  • "Alexanders is quite find. Anyone looking to avoid the herd like scene of Little Italy would find themselves very happy here. Great selection of Italian staples with a slight lean towards Mediteranian. Staff is knowledgeable and friendly. All courses arrived promptly and where spot on. The ambiance of the restuarant offers a romantic candle lit enviroment without it being too dark as the interior is white and light grey offering up a lively night time energy. I can't wait to go back again."

  • "We have dined at Alexander's before and absolutely love the menu. The food is terrific. Creative and tasty. Service is consistently great. Servers are friendly, professional and informative. Wine list is impressive. This time we sat outside. Chilly night air, but the heaters outside made for a delightful evening. Love the old movies playing on the screen, the "lounge" music is wonderful and the water feature tie together the ambiance for a great dining experience. Alexander's is one of our mainstays. Do make reservations though, tough to get a table without them."

  • "Alexander's is a great dining experience. I had the lobster ravioli and my partner had the walnut gorgonzola and both were outstanding. We know getting a seat is hard without a reservation but we like to eat early so we were there at 5 when they opened. I've heard Alexander's is one of the 'must eat' at places in San Diego and it is. Our server Kristen was outstanding. Next time we come to San Diego, this will be one of the places we dine."

  • "We had reservations and reservations are a must at this place, I repeat RESERVATIONS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.. Although this place has been in north park going on 6 years, it seems like the city just stumbled upon this hidden gem . The evening was very nice the food amazing as usual, wine list is supurb, and the service is delightful. I love Alexanders and we love going back time, after time."
