  • "Went for our 1st Anniversary and had an excellent dinner. Multiple well wishes from the staff for a happy anniversary including a personalized Happy Anniversary menu signed by the staff and a special dessert at the end of the meal. This combined with the overall exceptional food and excellent service made for a great night."

  • "Had been to AW's once or twice over many years but it really never left an overwhelming impression. This time we deliberately opted for a tasting menu as a last ditched effort to have an honest representation. The 5 course menu with the Wine pairing was well worth the experience....flavors well rooted in local cuisine and very comforting. The wine pairings were modern and suitable to wine geeks, the Morgon pairing with twice cooked Kalbi was a highlight!"

  • "Alan Wong's came highly recommended and we were not disappointed. Our reservation was for 8:45 pm on a Friday because we couldn't make it earlier; they said to come early and that they might be able to seat us early. We showed up at 7:30 and were seated by 7:45. Food and service were outstanding. We ended up going again to celebrate our last night in Honolulu and sat at the "view of the kitchen" bar. The show was great and the service was again impeccable."

  • "Returning after a few years, and a little disappointed. A date night for my husband & I but the tables are so close together its difficult to have any kind of private conversation. We were in a corner, so if we had tables on either side, as most are, I would have hated it. Our appetizer was excellent as is the selections of wines available. Some of the food was lovely, but both of our steaks were very overdone. Mine in particular was burned. We are very specific when ordering meat explaining exactly how we like it cooked, so there is no room for misunderstanding. Our waiter was good, but did not return to check on our entrees for a long time. We were comped on one dessert, but when you are spending $80+ on the entrees, it's disappointing."

  • "The prix fixe menu was simply outstanding. Currently including some 'classics' from Alan Wong's. Attentive service. Food pace was adjusted according with no sense of being rushed at all. We will be back again, and again."

  • "The menu is limited and so your choices are confined to there either meat or fish, that means either the lamb chops or the red snapper and if you go on a busy night and the kitchen is a rush, your food might not be prepared the way it was originated by Alan Wong,.They don't pay attention to detail and they rush,it's not a relaxed atmosphere. Da bag is the best starter, otherwise, save yourself some money and from being disappointed by going to eat at the Pineapple Room which is more relaxing and less "harried"."

  • "I'm a meat eater (eat no veggies) and clearly stated that before anything... Server still asked me if I want appetizer which I can't eat anything... My wife always gets the full taste testing and I usually don't because I don't like seafood.... It was our anniversary and they said no... We both had to get it... Minus points there! My wife order opaka fish and I ordered the short rib with no veggies... I explained just rice and meat... Food came out there was a mountain of greens on my short rib so I had to scrape it off... My short rib was great but the fish was plain.( wife said she could've gotten the same fish at Zippy's) service good but they screwed up... I rather eat at hiroshi's"

  • "My wife and I dined there on March 31. Cuisine was out of this world. The corned beef lumpia was a treat. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Make reservations early in your trip so you can get a good time. What was really nice were the prices - they were comparable to the 'big name' resort restaurants in Waikiki only Alan Wong's was in a class by itself! Bon apetite."

  • "Alan Wong's restaurant was truly a memorable dining experience during our stay in Honolulu.Alan Wong should be proud of his restaurant. It was our best dining experience ever!! The wine pairing with our meal were superb. Our Waiter, Tyler was very personable. No restaurant can compare to it in South Florida where we are from."

  • "An absolute hidden gem, we had the six course 'tasting of the classics' and I have rarely if ever enjoyed a meal so much - every course was subtle, clever and above all tasty! The wine pairings were inspired and we were very well looked after by knowledgable staff. Thank you to all the staff at Alan Wongs - you guys rock!"

  • "Geat place to take the Corporate guys when they come visit. Everyone was very impressed with Alan Wong's and expressed their appreciation that I chose such a high quality place. Food was excellent and fit within the Corporation's policy for price."

  • "but well worth it as the wines are very expensive. they didn't have a New Zealand Savignon Blanc which is our favorite. i called ahead and was told the corkage fee and they wouldn't open it. Since it had a screw top that was not an issue. Food was excellent but almost too much food."

  • "It is amazing to me how thoroughly Alan Wong's still delivers the goods ... many "celebrity" restaurants rest on their laurels at some point, but not this place. I think perhaps its Wong's commitment to local and sustainable that keeps things so fresh. My only critique is that whoever's curating the wine list needs a serious reality check -- the prices have gotten out of control! Throw a few more value selections into the mix, ok?"

  • "The food was very good especially the onaga and opakapaka dishes. I usually don't like fish but these were great. The strawberry Romanauff with goat cheese was terrific and very light for desert. The only complaint is that the tables are set too close together so there's not much privacy."

  • "The plates were totally perfect! Especially the white sweet wine matched the fish plate! Everything was fascinated and exciting . Our family visited there as a memorial of my husband, and it became unforgettable night for our children on the last day in Hawaii! Thank you ! Mahalo!"

  • "We had a party of four and all of us absolutely loved our dishes. We started with the seafood cakes which were so delicious- a must have app! I had the butterfish which was one of the best seafood dishes I have ever had. The portion looked small but it was perfect! The others had the onaga, the shortrib, and the shrimp and clams linguine. We all swear each of ours were the best...I tried all four and everyone of them were truely outstanding! Not to forget about the bread before the meal!! As we were taking a cab to the restaurant I was getting a little concerned because it is in weird area and the restaurant is on the third floor of I believe an office building. So it is not overly nice inside or out but the food is absolutely worth it!!"

  • "What can I say that hasn't already been said!? Simply Hawai'i's best. And put yourself in the hands of the fantastic hosts/waiters and let them guide you through a perfect, fantastic evening!"

  • "...and quite possibly anywhere. Order any of the Korean-themed dishes (i.e., those including 김치 or the twice-cooked short rib) and you can't go wrong. The Poki-Pines are a fun, delicious twist on the ever-present (in Hawaii) Ahi appetizer, and the Crunch Bars for dessert are amazing - if you actually have room left by that point.;)"

  • "The worst ambiance and service in Hawaii. It took over one hour forty minutes to get my appetizers. Food is greasy and fatty."

  • "We live in New York, and like to think we have a pretty good feel for restaurants. Alan Wong's was quite the best we have been to for many months; on every level it was just perfect. I will be back from NYC in late April, and if they have room, will come again. This time my wife has to stay home and I'll be in Hawaii on my own - I very much like dining alone in fine restaurants - and so we'll see how that works."

  • "Much hyped restaurant but disappointing food. Pricey food did not have the "wow factor" Great service was best aspect. Try the seafood cakes"

  • "Rent a car or take a taxi here-you will not be disappointed. The fish was the best we've had and even the items touted on other blogs lived up to expectations. Save room for the final endings."

  • "I had heard about Alan Wong's over a year ago and finally got around to getting a reservation (which was hard to come by on OpenTable). My wife got the 5 course "tastes" menu and it got the tenderloin and the tomato salad. I really enjoyed the Li Hing sauce on the tomato (so much that we bought some). It was such an unexpected delicious taste that both my wife an I were pleased. The tenderloin was cooked perfectly and all of the tastes were exquisite. I ended up sampling most of my wife's meal as well and didn't find anything I wouldn't eat again. Well done!"

  • "The food was wonderful. "Da bag" was so unique in presentation and flavor. The ginger crusted onaga was cooked perfectly and the flavors were great. "The Coconut" was beautiful in presentation and a tasty finish to a great meal. The service was excellent. They explained everything, did not hover, refreshed water and bread without being disruptive, and was knowledgeable of the menu; and was courteous, patient, and respectful to the guests. The surroundings were classically elegant, not noisy, and comfortable. We were seated by the window, so we had a wonderful city view with the mountains as a backdrop."

  • "My husband and I always enjoy our meals at Alan Wong's. The food is so pretty, I always hesitate to dig in. This time, I started with the Salad with Kalua Pig and a perfectly fried egg. My husband enjoyed the Crab Cakes; second course was linguine with clams and prawns. My husband enjoyed a nice steak and potato puree with garlic and cheese. We sipped Pineapple Martinis throughout the meal and cannot wait to return."

  • "My husband and I had a chef Tasting with wine pairing. One of the best Chef Tasting we've had, ! and we had many of them as that's our favorite dining choice. The meal was outstanding, the precentation was 5 stars. Uncommon tasting of the cold press Lilikoi and side by side butter tasting, what a delight ! The portion was perfet for the total 10 course tasting There are 3 individuals waited on us. Each of them very knowledgable of each own responsibility such as in wine, food course and taken care everything in order. The Chef Tasting dinner was a delightful, very much enjoyable, a satisfying experience in closing our 10 days island hopping vacation in Hawaii. We definitely will be back for other tasting. • "Friends from Indiana were here on their honeymoon. Their instructions were to select our favorite restaurant for special occasions. S asked for several modifications to existing menu choices. A couple times, the server said, "Il'll have to check". But, the staff was able to meet all her "wants"."

  • "We celebrated my birthday here for dinner last week and it was absolutely wonderful. We had a nice outdoor patio dining table which faced the mountains, followed by an excellent ahi sashimi/avocado salsa stack appetizer, then we tried the pan-seared opakapaka and red snapper - both of which were great, but the red snapper tasted best of all. We had the crunch bar dessert, along with a special chocolate coconut shell filled with coconut sorbet as an extra birthday surprise. Everything we tried was great, to include the sangria and mojito. The atmosphere was nice and the servers went above and beyond. The restaurant is about a 30 minute drive away from the heart of Waikiki, so a car or #2/#2L bus will be needed."

  • "What a foodie's treat. The whole tomato salad was a feast for the eyes and had great flavour with the plum dressing. My red snapper was one of the more memorable dishes i had in Honolulu. The service was extremely attentive and professional."

  • "Finally got to eat at the infamous Alan Wong's! Now we see why it is so poplar. The service was outstanding. Not a thing went un-noticed. The food was wonderful. Better than expected. Next time I want to sit at the counter, I want to watch where the beautifully presented and wonderful food is prepared! It's a special place. Not anywhere near the touristy Waikiki area, making getting in and out of the establishment so easy! I guarantee you will not be disappointed with any of your choices!"

  • "Alan Wong is to Hawaii what Tom Colicchio is to NYC. He applies Hawaiian flavors to perfectly cooked seafood and delivers a truly memorable experience. The best meal I had during my 8-day trip to Hawaii was at this restaurant, and I would not hesitate to return on my next trip - and even go out of my way to do so. Great service, food and atmosphere."
