  • "Transcendent! From start to finish this dining was the best of a lifetime. My friends and I are foodies and enjoy fine dining and wine pairing. Chef, Suzzete has perfected flavors and presentation over 25 years! The service was stealth, an yet friendly and enjoyable when engaged, noteably Raphael and Todd!! All our meal choices were perfection!! From the prefix menu, my selections were the Ahi tuna (most interesting complex dish of the night), prawn & corn risotto, and entrée of lobster! Raphael paired by the glass to start, recommended a world class wine, Vietti barolo '05, and we were at a pinnacle of perfection! Great cheeses, yummy & fun desserts, then a cart of profiterole treats added the final lovely touch! Cheers to 25 years in SF!"

  • "Acquerello is a real star. We had not dined there in quite a while after an unfortunate experience several years ago. In the interim, the décor, food and service have all been enhanced and updated. Incredible wine list that focuses on Italian wines; wonderful Italian themed food (don’t skip the pastas or the melon soup); and a sweet cart to send you off in the night. Portions are a bit small and the prices are a bit high, but it’s worth it. And you can hear your dinner companions as well. Great for romance or special occasions."

  • "Acquerello instantly becomes a special place as you enter and the beautifully appointed dining room, designed, furnished and illuminated with elegance and comfort in mind. We tried different dishes from the Prix-Fixe Menu, and all admired how artfully they were presented and how delicious they were. Smoked potato gnocchi with prosciutto and truffle, cuttlefish "tagliatelle", and slow-cooked pepper-crusted Scottish salmon were standout dishes, as were the rhubarb-port sorbet and bourbon-caramel semifreddo desserts. The wines recommended were perfectly paired with our food. We also loved the delicious savory and sweet "surprises" sent by the chef to begin and end our meal. It was a memorable evening of excellent cuisine and superb service."

  • "Always a treat at Acquerello! Highlights this time included smoked gnocchi, beef tartare, cheese selection and semifreddo. This is one of our favorite restaurants in the country. It certainly can't be half bad if Bill Cosby is dining nearby. Big night out, but worth it!"

  • "My favorite restaurant in many respects. I tried their only Chardonnay by the glass for $22 for a small pour. I didn't like it and said so when they asked if I wanted another. The wine guy indicated he couldn't get me what I described except by the bottle. Seems a classy place like that could have tried harder. Super beautiful and romantic place. Wonderful complimentary treats between courses. Desserts were excellent."

  • "Acquerello is a great find. the food is exceptional! tasty, inventive with beautiful presentation. the sommelier recommended a great white chardonny from northern Italy to start and we found a lovely red from Howell mountain in Napa that went well with everything. The rissoto and gnocchi were wonderful as were all the other dishes. not a miss in the lot. service was very professional yet warm and informative without being intrusive. The owner is on the floor participating with the service which is probably why it is so excellent. all the little treats before, during and at the end of the meal were super. Highly recommended!"

  • "Excellent food, prepared and served beautifully. Every single dish was an amazing explosion of taste, texture and aromas. We chose the pre fixe menu and selected 5 courses. As first time diners, the chef also included several "chef's surprises" that were outstanding. I can't say enough wonderful compliments to Chef Suzanne and her staff for a truly memorable birthday dinner. I can't wait to go back and try more items on the menu. And the service!! The best I've ever experienced in any restaurant...ever! Seamless transitions between courses, glasses always full, fresh napkins after each course, and timed perfectly. First class service. I'm out of adjectives...have to go get my thesaurus and finish! :=)"

  • "Night before last we had the most amazing event called dinner at the absolute best restaurant I've ever been to. The food and sparkling wine were like nothing I've ever enjoyed. The service was impeccable. We celebrated a wedding engagement in a remarkable and memorable manner. I highly recommend you try Acquerello if you are ever in San Francisco. Bring an empty belly and a full wallet and expect a complete reversal as you depart. However, the food and the experience are worth every calorie -- and every penny."

  • "I took my wife and two grown daughters there for dinner on a Saturday night. We had a fabulous time. This is one of San Francisco's finest restaurants and clearly one of the top, high end, Italian places. Like Gary Danko, but with Italian cuisine. Service is top notch, the room is relatively small, so reasonably intimate. We had the four course tasting menu (they also send several mini courses your way in addition) and each course was spectacular. We seldom ordered the same thing so there were about 12 different dishes served and each got raves. This is either a place for a special occasion (it was our anniversary) or a high end business expense dinner. Highly recommended."

  • "Sadly, I have to say this restaurant is grossly overrated. The service was fantastic, but the food was good not great and the cost was ridiculous - approximately $450 for two people including a $125 bottle of wine and four course meal. That is the most I have ever spent on a dinner and I would have said it fell short at even half the price. It was a major disappointment."

  • "This, by far, was my favorite restaurant experience during our week in San Francisco. I had an amazingly flavorful vegetarian meal, and my husband loved his steak. They even made a steak off the tasting menu for our daughter even though we didn't get the tasting menu. They compiled a salad for each of us based on our likes, and had a wonderful cheese selection. The waitstaff was so attentive that we felt like we were the only ones in the restaurant. The sommelier made great suggestions, and our waiter, Todd, was amazing. I really appreciated the quiet atmosphere and being able to carry on a conversation without having to speak loudly. I recommended Acquerello to others at our hotel, and will continue to do so."

  • "For our wedding anniversary, I had tried to get a table at Gary Danko's - but no such luck! I had heard good things about Acquerello again and again over the years, and so I decided to give it a try. The exterior is unassuming, to say the least, and the location isn't glamorous, either. But open the front door, and you are in a different world: elegant, polished, sophisticated, but not a bit snobby. Just friendly and very upscale. The food was fantastic with an emphasis on freshness and on authenticity, bringing out the best in everything - and (thank God!) not as contrived as in so many "hot new places/chefs..." where new dishes are created for the sole purpose of doing something new, not necessarily convincing. So - this was a revelation!"

  • "This was our second time to Acquerello but we brought a first-timer with us, who was appropriately awed by the service, physical space, wine list, and food preparation as we were the first time. This was a fantastic dining experience though it felt a little short of our prior visit because the restaurant was full, thus not as 'sanctuary quiet' as we had remembered. Still, it is calm and unrushed and the service remains truly spectacular. Our fish entrees did not meet the otherwise amazing first/second/dessert courses; not sure why. Wine pairings were fantastic with unusual Italian wines which are their unrivaled specialty. This is very expensive but we will absolutely return."

  • "The best Italian food in the bay area....wonderful,wonderful, wonderful. The multi course option on the menu is perfect for sampling a variety of dishes. The ambiance is perfect for an evening with friends, business, or special companions. The restaurant is beautifully understated, and elegant."

  • "The dinner I had at Acquerello was one of the top 10 best meals I've ever had in my life! I went with my mother when she was visiting me in SF and we were both BLOWN AWAY by the incredible food and warm, friendly service. Each dish was clearly given an exceptional amount of thought and care, and I did not consume one thing that I didn't absolutely LOVE. The sommelier also recommended a wonderful wine (it was actually a wine that is served only at Acquerello) and told us the story behind it. And even though the food is somewhat expensive, the quality far exceeds what I've experienced at much more expensive restaurants. All in all, I HIGHLY recommend this restaurant!"

  • "There were many very lovely dishes and lots of amuse bouches, which were nice. The main reason I haven't rated the food excellent overall is that my veal loin, while very tasty, was a bit chewy rather than tender as I expected. Every thing else was subtle and very interesting. The waiter, while competent, was too insistent on asking how everything was during each course, even the many amuse bouches, which became monotonous, and it was obviously done as a matter of routine and not genuine concern."

  • "9 course tasting menu does not disappoint! Wine pairings were spot on and refreshingly not your typical varieties. Obviously a lot of thought had gone into them. Very knowledgeable and skilled staff on hand. One minor detail that could be adjusted was that almost every single food course was overly acidic (heavy handed on the vinegar, citrus etc) and after so many it really built up. Otherwise a truly enjoyable experience. "

  • "Having dined here previously, we came back with high expectations. Only reservation open during our visit to San Francisco was on a special anniversary chef night. The menu was done by alumni chefs, one of whom tried to adapt sub shop food into 2 star dining. It didn't work for me. I was disappointed in every course based upon taste and quality of ingredients. Presentation was excellent. Fortunately, the service remained at the usual high Acquerello quality. The noise level was loud and the crowd seemed younger and more boisterous than we remembered. We may return to Acquerello on a future visit to San Francisco, but only if the usual menu is offered. "

  • "As ex restaurant GM in the best restaurants in London (The Savoy, The Dorchester), Paris (St. James's Hotel), Beverly Hills, Milan Italy (at 3* Michelin restaurant) and traditional butler trained in London, I can say few things. Best service in US I've seen, hostess to GM, like a silk scarf and smooth with exquisite food. Veal dish very intricate, chocolate mousse perfectly balanced with vanilla cream and hazelnuts. Wine list is one of the best on Italian wines I've seen, very comprehensive by the regions, favorite Amarone's and Gaia wines, included. Only small down point was Somellier's snotty attitude. Atmosphere is romantic/private with great space between tables for privacy, lightning discreet. Nice touches all around. Will be back."

  • "My second (and definitely not last) time here. The food, service, et al., are superb, the wait staff super organized (and appear just when needed), and Acquerello is my favourite restaurant in SF. Wonderful place, clearly deserving of more accolades (then again, maybe not: as it would become even harder to get a reaervation). "

  • "My partner and I ate there May 27, and what a meal! Besides the dishes we ordered (including cuttlefish sliced into strips like pasta and a tremendous risotto), there were several extras as we each orders three courses. My partner was given a small version of my cuttlefish and I was given a small version of her dessert. Wine steward picked out a very good and reasonable Soave. One of San Francisco's true pleasures."

  • "Dining at Acquerello was definitely an experience. The food was incredible and the service was flawless. The only downside was due the people dining next to us. My boyfriend and I were by far the youngest people there and we feeling pretty judged by the group next to us. Fortunately they left early. The staff, however, was awesome and made us feel very comfortable."

  • "This was our third or fourth time at Acquerello and we have never been disappointed. The service is superb and the food exceptional. The extra attention to detail makes the evening very romantic and special. This was a birthday celebration and the dessert brought the whole evening to a wonderful completion. Thank you for making the evening another memorable occasion."

  • "This was the finest dining experience I've ever had. Beautiful, quiet dining room; superb, friendly staff; and the most delectable food. I have to save up to go to places like this so I don't eat like this very often. I would unhesitatingly recommend this place as one of San Francisco's finest ever restaurants. "

  • "an outstanding experience, my wife and I go for the complete experience, better than the top rated resaurant in San francisco. If you like quiet, with polished personnel, some of the best food I've eaten, with great wines, this is the place. It's the little details, like a cushion to place your handbag so its not on the floor, the teamwork, where everyone seems tuned into your dining experience, and step in to help. The wine is pricey, so we like to bring our special bottles with a generous corkage. I can't think of a better place, really. "
