Diner Reviews
  • "Acero was recommended by a friend who lives in St Louis to a couple of us visiting from out of town. It's blend of excellent ingredients, exceptionally creative versions of conventional Italian fare, service that was just right, subdued atmosphere made it just right to catch up with an old friend. We each chose their tasting menu though with no overlapping choices. we left not a crumb or a scrap of any of the five dishes served. Each dish was exceptionally flavorful and not too heavy. In particular I enjoyed the Mista salad, the Egg Raviolo and a surprise dish that I could best describe as airy light dumplings layered with prosciutto and sea salt. St Louis is known for many good Italian restaurants but this one is exceptional."

  • "The food at Acero's is tasty, inventive and varied. I recommend the 4 course tasting menu. It is possible to substitute the special of the day for a course selection for an additional $5. I chose the halibut special, prepared with a spinach puree and spinach gnocchi on the side. Food at Acero's is excellent due to complex, complimentary spices and seasoning as well as paired accompaniments. Service was excellent with Marco. He was helpful with wine list, letting us sample 2 wines before choosing. He is warm and very professional. I have eaten here in the past and found it to be a little noisy but that has been addressed with panels on walls. Noise level didn't interfere with a wonderful dining experience."

  • "visiting St Louis for first time and was delighted to have eaten at Acero, a true gem of a restaurant, easily on par with the places I know and frequent in LA and NY. Kudos for the tasting menu and its very moderate cost. Look forward to another evening at Acero when back in St. Louis"

  • "Our dining experience was very enjoyable at Acero. We went for dinner for my mom's birthday and we all ordered from the $30 per person menu where you can choose an item from a list for each of 4 courses. That was nice because it gave you a chance to try a few different items for your meal. I had for my first course the bruschetta, second- clam linguini, third- scallops, and I did not have a dessert, but that is your fourth course option. All of my choices were very tasty, and my parents were pleased with the majority of theirs as well. Our server was very friendly and did a great job (Brendan I believe was his name). I would and have recommended this restaurant to others. This was our 3rd visit to Acero."

  • "Get the tasting menu! Seafood, steak, lamb, pasta, whatever your thing is, this will satisfy you."

  • "I have been to Acero three times and all were simply delightful. The Egg Raviolo is so rich and creamy it could be dessert. I could eat the Rainbow Trout ~ Spaghetti Squash, Local Pecan, Sage and Brown Butter every day. The servers are attentive, but never hoover."

  • "Received a gift certificate to Acero. This was truely a wonderful gift as the food was outstanding and the service exceptional. The Tasting menu choice was perfect. I highly recommend the Trout and the Chocolate Torte."

  • "We had been to this restaurant on a recommendation and the first time we had a good experience. The second time, a week later, we had bad experience. We had a small child with us both times, who was impeccably behaved both times. The second time we went, they realised we had reserved a table with a child as we asked for a booster seat, and we were ushered to the back of the restaurant behind the bar, although there was plenty of room in the main restaurant in anticipation that our granddaughter would be badly behaved. I was very cross. The first visit we had a wonderful waiter, who couldn't do more for us and had a personality! The second time the waiter was rude and practically threw the food at us and did not communicate."

  • "Great food. The Egg Ravioli was probably the best dish I have ever had. Drinks overpriced. They charged $14 for a Chives on the rocks. I have never paid more than $10. In addition the drink was weak. They need to get their drink prices in line. I complained to the manager and he reduced my drink to $10."

  • "Even though the waitress said they won't alter the tasting menu she got them to leave blue cheese off the salad and change the dressing (much appreciated) all the food was wonderful and the portions were quite generous--esp for a tasting menu . We will definitely return"

  • "We ate amazing food in St. Louis and Acero was on the top of the list! Coming from Chicago and being foodies, that says a lot!"

  • "Food was very good. Service was a bit slow. I had to get up and ask the hostess to send my waiter over with my check. Not amused by this."

  • "The service was great. The server was very knowledgeable and very friendly. I recommend Acero to anyone with a special occasion."

  • "My wife and I had dinner at Acero's Saturday night. Four course meal for $30 was excellent. A choice of 4 or 5 selections per course is provided. The linguine (2nd course) was outstanding. The only drawback is that the tables are crowded very close together, and the room is very noisy. We had the misfortune near the end of our meal to have a couple sit down next to us; the woman spoke so loudly that I'm sure all seated around her heard every word. So, in sum, excellent food, but this is not the place to go if you prefer a quiet meal."

  • "Consistently great meals. Love the pasta, appetizers and soup"

  • "This was my first dining experience and I was really impressed. While the restaurant is small, the ambience is very nice/romantic. They seem to specialize in the 4 course experience and for $30 per person it is a great value. I had the anchovy salad to begin with, very flavorful with lemon and pesto. Second course was the gnudi, my favorite of the evening and i've never heard of this dish. The third course i got the polenta, it was pretty good but my wife had the scallops which were better. For dessert i had the caramel pana cotta. Again, it was delicious but my wife got chocolate torte that was the best i've ever tasted. Service in general was great, very attentive waiter. i walked out and told my wife 'this is my new favorite restaurant'."

  • "We enjoyed our experience at Acero. The food and atmosphere were very good. When you order the 4 course meal (including dessert), plan to make a night of it. That took a couple of hours."

  • "I made a last minute reservation here since we were going to the St Louis Symphony, I wanted somewhere close. There was a special Valentines weekend menu. 6 courses for $75 a person. The food was amazing. The service was amazing. I loved how small the place was small without feeling crowded. I will definitely go again."

  • "I took my girlfriend to this restaurant for Valentine's Day. It was a very nice, small place with great service. The cost was $75 per person for a 6 course dinner. The food was outstanding, however the portion sizes were much smaller than I anticipated. I did feel satisfied by the end of the meal, but definitely not full. I would recommend this restaurant as a good experience but only to someone who can afford it. Definitely wish the portions were just a bit bigger."

  • "My boyfriend and I enjoyed the valentines day tasting menu last Saturday. Every course was better than the next; this meal was wonderful, our service was great, and the restaurant was largely empty so we could truly enjoy ourselves. The tasting menu is a great way to sample many dishes. Our wine was also wonderful. A great experience!"

  • "Had one of the finest meals of the past few years at Acero for Valentine's Day. 6 courses with wonderful selections. Each course was perfectly prepared in a timely fashion. Perfect Vodka Martini to begin the festivities. Very interesting wine list at affordable prices. Tom does a great job managing the restaurant and Marco was an outstanding waiter. We always enjoy Acero but this meal was indeed special."

  • "Acero has some of the best food I have had in St. Louis for sometime. I did the tasting...and every course was better than the previous. Will definitely go back...I am dreaming of the Raviolio:>) The worst part was making the decision of what to try, every option sounded good. The gnudi just melted in your mouth...ummm! Our server, Liz, made the evening that much more enjoyable. Only negative that I would have is that it was a bit noisy, but that may have just been the particular patrons for that evening:>) I can only imagine how it is on the weekends when they are jam packed. Kudos to the chefs in the back...I almost believed I was in some small Trattoria in Italy! Actually...the food may have even been better than some I have had there!"

  • "We have been a few times and always do the $30 4 course meal and it is always VERY good and of course you must try the Egg Ravioli. The food is always spot on and there special of roasted potato soup was suberb. For the atmoshphere, it is very nice and quaint but with that being said we sat next to the window and it was a tad cold sitting there due to the window but then we chose that over the small table in the middle of the room which we prob would have been warmer but more "snug" with others. If your able to get a booth or sit in the back room would be the perfect place to sit. Parking is a tad tricky but earlier you go better. But I will say without a doubt that I would and do recommend this place in a heart beat. It is SOOO worth it!"

  • "Boo Acero! Acero came highly recommended by a friend. Menu looked great, so we gave it a go. We were seated by the window on a cold night and quickly asked to be moved to one of the 5 other available tables for 2. While we were waiting, the hostess sat 2 other parties of 2. Our waitress finally showed and told us that 2 other couples had already been seated at the table and asked to be moved. She further stated with little empathy, "it will warm up." Don't feel like spending $150 for dinner while I'm wearing my coat. Went back to the hostess to ask about being moved again to which she stated, "I have a plan to follow." Unacceptable - so we left. Hostess was more interested in her plan rather than meeting the needs of her customers."

  • "We all had the sampling dinner. The dishes were all wonderful, however, too many diverse rich foods for one sitting. Next time, we're only going to order a salad and an entre."

  • "This was our second visit to Acero, this time alone as opposed to being in a group. We each chose the 4-course Tasting Menu. The food was spectacular.....I can't say enough about the Egg Raviolo......perfection in pasta! I had the rack of lamb, also fabulous, as was my husband's steak. Nice wine list. Our server was attentive, but not hovering. Only one slight gaff in the evening, when the hostess had to "check to see if she had a booth available".......we had a 5 p.m. reservation because of other plans that evening. There was one other couple in the restaurant. Plenty of seating everywhere. I would have expected a "Yes, of course, follow me"..........Otherwise, the evening was wonderful!"

  • "This place is one of our favorites in STL! The egg raviolo NEVER disappoints! This time, we also tried the special house made pasta appetizer, & I haven't tasted anything that compares to our trip from Venice through Southern Italy until I had this pasta! The portions are just right, the salted caramel panna cotta was a fantastic dessert, & the overall experience made my wife's birthday dinner a success! Thank you, Acero for a job well done!"

  • "The Crossing little brother does a great job with Italian specialty dishes. A nice four course $30 tasting menu enables you to try several offerings. Excellent polenta offerings. Wine list is a bit pricey, but offset by decent house wines at reasonable prices"

  • "Thinking about a little date night, and wondering, would we like eight (combined) courses of very good food for $75? With a nice selection of Italian wines available at reasonably priced 250 ml portions? In a charming restaurant with decent service? Yes, yes, we would. Very much. Acero continues to fly very high for less."

  • "Acero is one of my favorite restaurants in St. Louis! The tasting menu is one of the best kept secrets in town so don't skip it while there. The wine list is really good but can be overwhelming, make sure to ask questions and they can help steer you towards what you're looking for. Acero is great for a special occasion or for an everyday meal. I would absolutely recommend Acero to a friend!"

  • ". Atmosphere is not fancy, but with the superior quality of food and near perfect service, who cares! If it is your first outing to Acero, consider the four course Tasting Menu priced at a very reasonable $30. My wife and I both elected to go that route. The Egg Raviolo is a must! Entrees were the Lamb rack (+$5) and their feature fish of the day. Perfectly prepared medium rare lamb and a flavorful, generous piece of Escalante. Warm Chocolate Torte and Ricotta Cheesecake finished a perfect evening.. Wine list provides a wide range of price points. Reggie acted as our navigator through the menu and wine list. His suggestions and guidance were spot on. Reasonable prices; excellent service; fantastic food. We will be back!"

  • "Outstanding meal, exceedingly good value. The 4-course prix fixe menu has lots of choices. The wine list is just long enough. A comfortable restaurant, yet one where you'd be proud to take your clients. (They will infer that you spend your money well...)."
