Diner Reviews
  • "We went to dinner on Saturday evening with some good friends and had an early reservation. The wine list had a nice variety and a wide range of prices so it was easy to find something that was affordable and enjoyable (in our case, we found a nice Gigondas). We all enjoyed sharing some appetizers (pork belly, duck prosciutto and country pate). For entrees, our group had the duck breast, sauteed scallops, beef tenederloin and rockfish. Not only were all of the entrees very good but our server did a great job pacing the meal. We would all go back again!"

  • "While the food was simply DELiCiOUS, the chef's policy to not accept an appetizer order until you order your meal was frustrating to say the least. We ordered our beverages right away. When they promptly arrived, we requested three appetizers but were denied because we had not decided on dinner. Not even the manager had either the ability or desire to assist us with this matter. I will not be returning, despite excellent food and bar options. If you decide to go, you may wish to stop off somewhere else for appetizers or be prepared to order your entire meal upon being seated. With all of the lovely restaurants in Richmond, I'd recommend you try another. I have never been to a restaurant with such a rigid policy."

  • "The setting isn't romantic, it's modern/industrial/cold with poured concrete floors, plastic chairs. The service was poor, for being a "top rated gem" the staff is smug and not accommodating. We wanted to order appetizers while we had a drink and reviewed the menu but were told we had to order our main courses and appetizers together (?) They were out of the scallops which was disappointing, the oysters on the appetizer were tiny. When we elected to not have dessert, I felt rushed out of the restaurant(as I was going to ask for a coffee) but the waitress could not be bothered. The food itself was very good but considering the price the service turned me off. Treating customers in a pleasant warm manner should be expected at this price point"

  • "We had a celebratory dinner there this week. Wonderful, wonderful fried oysters (and I try them everywhere) and a great salad. The single crab cake was good sized and delicious. Service very attentive. Noise level was a little high on this visit, but Acacia Midtown is consistent winner with us."

  • "Went here for a girls' night out and the food was superb. My only complaint was the noise level was a little high by the end of the evening."

  • "Simply the standard for the best in Richmond...the apps and the entrees are amazing....and the best customer service there is."

  • "Acacia Midtown - Perfect! Ambience / modern feel/ Great food; I wouldn't recommend this restaurant for kids; Worth the $$$ spent at this location."

  • "The food was fabulous. For a special treat, go on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday and ask to sit in the solarium; it is truly beautiful!"

  • "Delicious food, top ingredients, beautifully presented and professionally served."

  • "Good food, nicely presented by an attentive young staff. The prix-fixe menu is a good value. Get the bleu cheese/puff pastry/pecan crumble dessert - amazingly good."

  • "So far we didn't find anything better or on the same level as Acacia. Another wonderful experience. Thanks a lot."

  • "Having eaten at Acacia about 10 times, I've always found it good and better than most others, though some great new restaurants have opened in Richmond in recent years. On this last visit we had very loud-talking customers nearby that made conversations difficult for the last part of our meal but that is unusual considering past experience. The changing menu is a plus and the Prix Fixe menu is an excellent value for everyone at the table. Service is always very pleasant in my experience."

  • "Acacia is by far the best restaurant in Richmond. Always delicious!!!"

  • "I really enjoy the restaurant so this seems very trivial at best. We received dessert menus and I immediately ordered coffee so that this would be taken care of while we debated dessert. The creamer/brown sugar came. No coffee. We ordered dessert and waited. No coffee. The dessert came and we still had not received the french press of coffee. I asked someone (not our waiter) and he came back with a french press but no coffee cup. He returned and poured the coffee but didn't leave the french press, as usual. It was just an odd situation after a great meal. I think it was also the odd couple next to us that had many requests and took up all of our waiter's attention. Once they arrived our service went down the tubes."

  • "We enjoyed wonderful meals of crab cakes and beet salad and cheesecake! It doesn't get any better than that!! We had plenty of attention as well. The cosmos were sooooo good and,the bartender even wrote down how to make them for me! We are looking forward to returning soon!"

  • "We have been here several times and keep coming back because food and service are excellent. For a restaurant and this caliber, the portions are almost too generous."

  • "We grabbed an 8:30pm reservation last minute on open table. Had time for one quick drink in the lounge area. I highly recommend their Malbec by the glass ($8). Decor uses clean lines - has a contemporary and very cool vibe. Scott, our server, was very attentive and helped with a few questions we had. My beet and goat cheese salad was very good and my husband had the white anchovy starter. He really enjoyed it and Scott even followed up later to see how he'd liked it. We loved our duck and wahoo entrees as well. 4 wild rice gnocchi were part of my wahoo dish and they were such a treat! If you haven't been, go! If it's been a while, go back! We sure won't wait years before we do."

  • "We were there for a business dinner. The food and the scene was wonderful. Their crab cakes are fantastic. The staff seemed a bit overwhelmed and the service was a little slow even though it was not super busy. But overall it was a great experience and we enjoyed the evening."

  • "As usual we had a fabulous meal. Had my favorite oyster appetizer and this time had the filet instead of my usual seafood choice. The spices were unique and amazing. And topped the meal off with an unforgettable apple epanada pie!!!!"

  • "The cocktails were excellent and creative - a great way to start. The menu has recently been redone and was a welcome invitation into spring, despite the local weather. The service was excellent - both bar and table, and they are polite, informed, easy-going without being overly familiar, and often very funny. Acacia is a delight."

  • "Via Open Table, we listed allergen concerns. The staff was very accommodating and one of the owners personally stopped by to discuss the options. The team service was excellent and we look forward to revisiting."

  • "Acacia is one of the premier restaurants in Richmond. From the specialty salads to the scallops and the beef tenderloin, everything was first class. Portions were generous without being overfull."

  • "We love it. The food never misses! Personal favorite: the crab cake- But the name is really too mundane. It should be called something much more superlative. It's really just huge chunks of super lump crabmeat perfectly held together with a little, delicate seasoning. Do try the anchovy appetizer, the fried oysters & the calamari as lovely starters with a little kick."

  • "I have never had a bad meal or even a portion thereof. The staff, food, service are all exceptional. Having been in the restaurant business myself, the thing that is the deal breaker for me is when a restaurant tries too many varying paths without staying consistent to the vision. Acacia has a well established presence in this town and a well deserved reputation in the fine dining sector. I love this place. Seriously!!"

  • "The food wasn't good, but that's often the case at restaurants. What was completely unacceptable was the incredibly rude waiter and a restaurant policy that no matter how awful the wine they serve, they won't swap it out, even for a more expensive wine. We have never been to a restaurant at this price point that would not get you a different glass of wine if you couldn't drink it. Heritage does, Lemaire does, and both Bistro Bobette and Patina will give you a small taste before you order a full glass. Additionally the loud music was fitting for a night club, not a fine restaurant with dimmed lights. We could barely hear each other talk. Definitely won't return."

  • "We had the best seat in the house, at the front window. Food, service and ambience were outstanding. Music was a bit loud when we first out there since we were only able to get the early seating the same day but they turned it down and also when the restaurant filled up their noise took over the music which was some kind of rock/rap. Not appropriate for the class of the restaurant."

  • "Great food but location is very noisy. Ask for a table in the alcove for a little less noise."

  • "We've been "special occasion" user of Acacia Mid-Town, maybe 3 or 4 times a year. The menu is non-traditional, which is fine. Most of us got crab cakes, which used to be excellent. This time the cake was more like a casserole. Too much of everything but crab meat. The sides were ordinary. The crispy potatoes were so only because they were undercooked. No one finished their kale. One couple got dessert. Like many of the other entrees, there was one ingredient too much. The french press coffee was excellent. Our waitress was very good. Maybe we just hit a bad night. We've had enough good meals there to give it another chance or two. Saturday, however, was definitely strike one."

  • "Acacia deserves their #1 ranking on tripadvisor in the fan district. Great atmosphere, great food, all around great experience. Not usually a fan of pre fixe menus, but you can't beat Acacia's."

  • "Pros: Servers are attentive, obsequious, and efficient. Food is well prepared and fresh, and waiting time is reasonable, Complimentary valet is very convenient. Cons: Ambience is very noisy. Tables are packed close together and background noise level quickly increase. Portion are very small, so that my girlfriend after an appetizer, a tenderloin (very well cooked) and a dessert, was still hungry. My ceviche was drowned in avocado and other sauces, and my sea bass was sitting on a bed of white asparagus that took ten times as many to chew as the fish. A few fish bones were embedded in the filet. It happens with fish, but not when you pay that much money for it. The price tag was excessive, for the quality and quantity of food eaten."

  • "I have been here twice now, once with a friend and once in a group, and both times it was just amazing. Scallops and crab cakes were delicious, the fried oysters melt in your mouth, and my tenderloin could be cut with a butter knife. Fantastic!"

  • "Spent 2 nights in Richmond, and Acacia Midtown was a highpoint of our trip. The filet was perfectly cooked medium rare, and the mashed potatoes and broccolini were very nice. The crabcake was all crab, and the cheese grits and kale were the best sides. service was spot-on. This is an easy recommendation."

  • "Loved our dinner at Acacia on a recent Saturday evening. Our group of four was a bit slow making choices, and our server was patient and continually attentive until we had ordered. For appetizers, we enjoyed a tasty arugula salad, crispy fried oysters and a delectable pork belly appetizer, complete with mushroom puree. We were all about fish for main courses...grouper and black sea bass with innovative sides that added superb flavor. We shared an apple empanada for dessert and a delicious cheese plate. Great food! Superb service from beginning to end."

  • "There is nothing not to like. The Prix Fixe option is a great deal, although limited selections. The regular menu is small, but great things come in small packages! And this is great thing! Service was impeccable, both prompt and unobtrusive. They just do it very well."

  • "It is rare to go out to a new restaurant and find that everything you each is fantastic. Usually most of the meal is great but not everything. The oysters were terrific. Their take on the Ceviche was outstanding. The Mac and Cheese Gratin is silly good. Needless to say we were just getting warmed up. The cocktails were strong and poured just right. The entree's and the desert were spectacular but I will let you go and see for yourself."

  • "Waitress was attentive, but too quick. Kept speeding over to refill my water glass, but did not stay a second longer for us to make an additional request. Broccolli was not good...flavorless, I suppose. I ordered crabcakes, the greens were slightly undercooked. However, the grits balanced the greens quite nicely. The calamari salad was excellent! My husband had a bit more dressing than I did. I would have liked a couple of teaspoons more. The fried oysters with slaw were SUPERB."
