Diner Reviews
  • "Truly, a "fine dining experience". The menu and specials are exciting, interesting, and offer variety for everyone. The food preparation and presentation was outstanding. The service was above my high expectations for a fine dining restaurant."

  • "My girlfriend and I went to Abacus to celebrate her birthday dinner. It could not have been a more pleasant and delicious way to celebrate. Amazing food, drink, and ambience !"

  • "We were meeting two different friends to share a meal and say goodbye to our tax payment from the day before. Cocktails at the bar awaiting one friend to arrive. Everyone from the barman to the wait staff were wine knowledgeable. Their head wine guy comes from a wine-family background. We had a bottle of Robert Hall (his grandfather's winery) that went well with all of the food. And speaking of the food: Bravo to all who created it. Our table's selections included perfectly prepared sea food and a lovely steak, that was large enough to end up as part of another meal. The service was superb. We will be back! "

  • "Abacus has a 5 course tasting menu on weeknights for $65. The menu changes seasonally and based on what's fresh and available. This is an amazing deal for 5 courses of outstanding cuisine. Don't wait for a special occasion to enjoy this; I recommend going every weeknight possible!"

  • "Abacus continues to provide the ultimate dining experience. OUTSTANDING meal, Lobster Shooters are a must."

  • "Our reservation was at 9pm, but our table was not ready for some time after. We enjoyed cocktails and they sent us out complementary lobster shooters because of our added wait time. When we were seated the place was quite noisy and crowded, which made it difficult to have a romantic dinner or hear conversation. The chef was too busy that evening, to do his plated menu so we were stuck ordering off the regular menu. This turned out to be fine, although I really prefer the plated courses. It was wonderful food but I did not enjoy the ambiance or the noise level, so my husband and I will likely not return."

  • "only problem was we sat next to a table of 10 guys who were extremely loud and like all restaurants these days, no one polices such behavior"

  • "I came here with my girlfriend to celebrate our 4 year anniversary and I would have to say it was quite the experience. Being the first time going out for fine dining, it surpassed my expectation and my date and I had a great time. Our server was knowledgeable, funny and easy to get along with and the atmosphere was delightful. We were constantly tended too (till it got busy but I understand) and the food was delicious. The two of us had the wood roasted beef tenderloin and the duo bulgogi for our main entrees and we also had the favorite roll, oysters, and risotto. Everything was good, especially the oysters! Though on the downside the tenderloin was a little too charred and slightly to rare on the other side. Overall, I had a great time."

  • "We went to Abacus to celebrate our 21st anniversary and we had a wonderful dinner. The service was great too. We had the Caesar salad, buffalo tartare, Ahi tuna, rack of lamb and mushrooms for a side dish. All were terrific. They also serve a fantastic basket of breads with dinner. For dessert my husband had the deconstructed coconut pie and we shared the dessert box which came with peanut brittle, two types of cookies and fudge. It was a great way to celebrate our anniversary!"

  • "The staff, the surroundings, the food, all excellent. This is the restaurant to visit for those who are seeking quality ingredients prepared with absolute precision. While our dinner was very brief because of a scheduled event, the staff made every accommodation to see that we were out of there in time. The food was exceptional. We tried the scallops as well as the small filet. The presentation was bright and perfectly prepared."

  • "In a few words, Abacus is amazing and an unforgettable experience with their attention to detail with service, atmosphere and especially the cuisine beginning from walking in the door. A true gem in Dallas!"

  • "We love Abacus. The service is top notch. If you go more than once, they will remember you. It is very personable service. The food is always amazing. A new dish was the BBQ quail, definitely a favorite."

  • "Food was fantastic. A very unique menu and offered a broad stroke experince. Bit loud for a group of 7 for business."

  • "Have eaten here several times and the food is always good but latest experience had some negatives. Sashimi was not thinly sliced but quarter inch thick pieces of straight raw tuna, server much more interested in a larger table than ours for two and the wine prices are over the top with single glass prices covering the bottle cost I am sure. Overall food quality was good but not outstanding.40 dollar entrees seem to be the rule."

  • "Bottom line, Steve's knowledge, enthusiasm, and all-around fantastic personality made our dining experience the best ever!!!!! He was the best server we had ever had anywhere. He knew the menu so well that we ordered twice as much so we didn't miss anything!!!!! We went crazy!!!! We had so much fun!!!! We just love him!!!! We were sorry when the night was over because we had such a good time!!!! The food was fantastic and amazing!!!! We love Abacus!!!!"

  • "The food was very good but our waiter had a HUGE chip on his shoulder. It was enough to significantly detract from the overall experience."

  • "have gone to this restaurant and others in the family for many years took some folks who had not been expecting great and different Asian fusion and great service we got just the opposite the shrimp and grits wouldnt make it to a cereal box and the fish dish was a 4 of 10 at best our waiter was extremely cocky, thought he was the cat'w meow and hardly showed up at our table the cost is not inexpensive and if is the quality of food and service not sure I will ever go back"

  • "Beautiful ambiance, great service, food just ok. Another restaurant that focuses on unusual and eclectic ingredient pairings and menu selections. Unfortunately, that is the best thing I can say about the food. Many of the dishes our table ordered were a jumble of ingredients with no particular attention payed to the balance of flavors. Over salted, over spiced! Example: Hamachi appetizer - absolutely beautiful fresh fish, expertly sliced paper thin in a wonderful sauce with a mound of thinly sliced jalapeño. I took a very small bite of the jalapeño which overpowered the delicate fish. If the chef felt the need for heat in this dish, an aromatic heat, such as wasabi would have been much more enjoyable. Won't return...."

  • "From the friendly valet down to the buss boy the service was 5 star. The food was fantastic as well. While the price point makes this restaurant a special occasion or a once in awhile favorite for many, I think it was worth every cent. It is now one of the too two favorite places to go for my wife and I. We will be back for sure!"

  • "It was my first time there and I decided to celebrate my boyfriends birthday, the food was awesome and so were the services but food could have come out quicker. Me and my boyfriend had the five course tasting mean and every plate was unique in its own way and we will never forget this experience."

  • "We're not foodies but are well-traveled and have recently come to Dallas after decades in New York. Abacus was a birthday treat, not our usual dinner out. Still, our meal there ranks as one of the best ever anywhere. Fully comparable to our celebratory meals in NY, and about two-thirds the price, which we considered a deal. Rack of lamb was tender and prepared just as requested. Same for the grilled salmon. Waiter recommended wine (a pinot noir) was $14 a glass (he could have gone as low as $12 or as high as $23) that was delicious. Shared an apple dumpling for dessert that was delicious. Found the small treats presented after the check to be -- well, unimpressive after such an otherwise outstanding meal."

  • "The food was wonderful, however the server seemed to be more preoccupied with the tables around us. He only checked back on the food after we were about 3/4 finished. We had anticipated buying a bottle of wine, but opted out after being nearly finished with the food by the time he came back. I also ordered a drink with dessert, which never came."

  • "We've gone to Abacus for almost every special occasion (and some not-so-special) for the past six years. It never fails to delight us. The luscious lobster shooters and bread basket are worth the visit alone! This time I tried the sushi, which I enjoyed but I believe the restaurant's stronger suit are the small and big plates. And I never leave there without having the goodie box for dessert. I love their cookies and the peanut brittle. Can't wait for our next celebration to return to Abacus."

  • "Went to Abacus for a celebration, and was not disappointed. Service from Aaron was impeccable, with a great wine recommendation. We chose the 5 course and 8 course tasting menu, I had to have the 8 because it included foie gras, and glad I did. The sushi roll for starters was ok, not outstanding, but from there on it was wonderful. Highly recommend for that special occasion."

  • "We went to Abacus for our wedding anniversary and could not have been more pleased. The 5 course tasting menu was diverse and each course was flawlessly prepared. The wine pairings were excellently done and Ryan provided excellent service."

  • "The food was fantastic and service was great. There are so many categories in which to order so go for them all. I have never missed the lobster shooters. I had the buffalo tartare and have been thinking about it all weekend."

  • "Go visit Abacus. The food, the atmosphere, and the service exceed anything that I could think to put in a review."

  • "We had a belated family Valentine's dinner. Everything was fantastic from the service to the food. Definitely recommend."
    Dined on 2/22/2014
  • "Look, it was all "pretty good"...the server didn't know much about the wine list, but he was very knowledgeable about the menu items. My wife wasn't in the mood for a heavy meat dish so she settled for some of the "pretty good" sushi and a dismal salad, whereas I got the grouper, which was overcooked, but the habanero fried rice with it was not bad. Our apple dumpling dessert was underwhelming, and our two cocktails apiece and glass of wine were all "just okay." I don't regularly spend $230 on "pretty good" for 2, and I certainly will not again at Abacus. The uptown hotspot is very well known and famous, but there are too many MUCH BETTER alternatives. To wit: The quality of 560 in Reunion Tower, minus the view. A gimmick, in other words."
