  • "Wife and I hosted a birthday party for 7 people. Three non- drinkers BTW, no cocktails and 2 bottles of wine. FYI it was hard to find wine under $80 on the wine list but there were a couple and the wine was good Food was very expensive - that's fine if it's exceptional - but it wasn't. Scallops gritty; Copper River salmon so overlooked it was inedible. Sushi was ok but not great ( but the price was HIGH). Waiter Ken was busy - for a hundred dollar tip (20%) I'd have expected more. When he cleared plates he didn't ask about the food we left - half the entree in some cases. You'd have thought he would have asked if we were happy with it. So many good places in Dallas for less than $80 a head. We will find someplace else."

  • "First time at Abacus. We were celebrating my girlfriend's birthday and the service staff made her feel special. We had drinks at the bar first. The bartender, Jason, was very personable and friendly. He found out it was our first time there, so he brought out some complementary lobster shooters. They were delightful. After drinks we went to the main dining room for dinner. It was a Monday, there were only a few tables seated, so service was impeccable. The waitress (sorry to say I don't remember her name) was knowledgeable about the menu and we were never left wanting. Foie gras was our starter, nice but bite-size for $30. Salads were excellent and creative, filet and lamb for the main course and peach cobbler brulee for dessert!"

  • "Amazing food. Each course kept outdoing the one before it. Sushi was excellent- best I've had in Dallas in awhile. Spring rolls were imaginative. Beef tenderloin was perfectly cooked, seared for a great taste. Dessert was perfect size, great blend of flavors for just enough sweet to not overwhelm. Exec Sous Chef Chris Patrick has done a great job."

  • "I had read reviews on other sites stating that Abacus did nothing to honor or acknowledge special occasions being celebrated at the restaurant. Our experience could not have been more different...from the time we were seated in a quiet corner of the restaurant, wished Happy Anniversary by the hostess, and given a signed copy of the days menu with the note Happy Anniversary from Chef Rathbun himself, it could not have been a better evening. All recommendations of the wait and bar staff were spot incredible. I would recommend letting the bar staff show off their vast knowledge and expertise by telling them the type of tastes you typically prefer in drinks and letting them craft you a custom cocktail."

The wait staff was attentive and enthusiastic about the menu, which was varied and interesting. We did not have the price fix menu, but ordered off the menu. Perhaps the price fix would have been a better choice."

Last night's visit was no exception in that department - it was the service and ambience that failed to fully impress. Our server was knowledgeable, if less than fully engaging. Our table was also disappointing. I understand the popularity of Abacus' food causes them to fill every table, even in the overflow room(s) - though I was disappointed that frequent diners (documented via OpenTable) weren't treated any differently than first-time walk-ins. Despite securing a reservation well in advance, we were given the very back table in the far corner of the overflow room."

  • "I was underwhelmed by the 8 course tasting menu. The 5 course tasting menu was much better the last time I went. I felt it was not a good value for the price. Also, each dish in the tasting menu was so similar, the only thing that seemed to change was the type of protein used. The hit-or-miss nature of Abacus is why I don't go there very often. You might be better off just getting specific dishes off the regular menu. The venison was great...you might try that if you go."

  • "This is a great fancy restaurant for special occasions, dates, business meetings and so on. Some of the portions are small (sashimi). Others are more than enough (beef medallions). The service is good. The food is good. I like the open kitchen. It's a nice place. Bring your wallet and enjoy the evening. I use this place as a good test for first dates. If she orders the $60 filet, it's also our last date. If they get something else, we'll probably see each other again. So far I'm one for two."

  • "We only could get early reservations and the place was just filling up when we left. Thus I have no idea about accoustics / noise level. Abacus has an open floor plan, including the kitchen. There are booths and tables. I had a magnificent buffalo filet steak and roasted asparagus. It was a truly a wonderful tasty meal. My husband loved his caesar salad but found the calamari tough and not tasty. They took it off the bill. Waitstaff was very friendly. We both would go back to eat there, if we ever get back to Dallas again."
