Diner Reviews
  • "We went to A10 for my birthday this past weekend, and it was my first time there. Definitely the best food I've have in Hyde Park. It's great to see that the neighborhood finally has a nicer place to eat. The bar has interesting selections, and the menu combines unexpected flavors in ways that are effective and delicious. One of the people in my group had what he has described as one of the best steaks of his life. Something about the sauce. Definitely recommend it."

  • "A10 was outstanding. Food was well prepared, fresh and creative. If you're planning to go home satiated or dine at bargain basement prices, A10 might not be for you. But if you're looking for interesting meals, a great wine list, unique cocktails and great service, it's just might be the right place. My only complaint (and they can hardly be held accountable for it) is that 53rd is a busy street under construction which created a bit more noise in the outer dining area than is probably normal. But the rest of the experience more than overcame this minor inconvenience. As Arnold said, "I'll be back"."

  • "The food was below par. I had green tomato lasagna. I was curious as to how they would blend the acidity of the green tomato with the rest. I had a big pile of indescriptible stuff, with breaded green tomatoes, cheese, lasagna pasta, crab, and the whole thick was covered with a thick bearnaise sauce. The whole thing made no sense from a culinary point of view. I had fried ricotta as apetizer that was just as uninteresting. The highlight was the double fried frites. It was my second time at A10. The first time I had scallops that left me an unpleasant aftertaste in the mouth. I will not return."

  • "Good and interesting food but very loud music, which makes it difficult to talk. Asked to turn it down and they did finally"

  • "Went to a10 w couple of friends. Great food-pizzas and pastas all fantastic. Ambience was good, vibrant but not too noisy. Staff all helpful but forgot one of our requests for ice & had to be reminded. But all in all an excellent time and I look forward to dining there again."

  • "We had a very good meal at A10 Hyde Park. However, I urge diners to sit at a table in the bar if there are any available. Main room is extremely noisy, and staff's shouting conversations with the cook staff doesn't help."

  • "This was our first visit, and there is no doubt that we will return. We sat outside, which was nice, but they could use more umbrellas. The sun was intense over half of the table. That said, the brunch menu, although limited, was unique. We absolutely loved everything we tried and can't wait to return for dinner."

  • "Perfect neighborhood night out for fine dining in hyde park. I wish we had more of these type restaurants!"

  • "Good vibes here. In some dishes it just felt like there was something that just missed the mark. The plating was beautiful tho. The servers and bus-boys, the coolest. Also the people at the host stand, yeee!! Best thing was the duck fat pasta. It had a lot of flavor, probably because duck fat has a lot of flavor and the sauce was reduced well. The sauce on the carpaccio dish had a funny texture and just missed the mark in terms of flavor. The oysters were off the chain with that lil crunchy crouton thang in there. Presentation for those was on point. The cheesy ball things were okay. They needed a lil more pizazz. And the scallops were also okay. The crunch from the quinoa was the jam, but then the sweet potato puree needed something more."

  • "Sadly, the items we loved on our first visit weren't available--beet salad, pea doughnuts. New appetizers were delicious, though. It was unbelievably noisy and, weather allowing, we'll try outside table next time. Or maybe the bar side is quieter. Conversation was just impossible. So we just ate and enjoyed the food."

  • "Excellent food, good services, friendly open ambiance. It was a bit warm as the air conditioner had just been turned on and it was very humid/hot outside. However, I would go back"

  • "At last true fine dining in Hyde Park. Diverse and tasty menu, and healthy at the same time. Attentive and knowledgeable wait staff. A welcome addition to the neighborhood."

  • "Our 4th or 5th time eating there. Continuously updating the menu of both food and drinks. Everything is very well-executed, and the service was very attentive. We love this place."

  • "We went for a romantic dinner. Too had we couldn't hear each other! The food was pretty good, but the big plates' ratio of meat to side dishes was overwhelmingly large."

  • "The food and service was very good, but I think it was a bit expensive."

  • "I took my husband here for Father's Day. It's new in the area and we were very excited to try it. The service was excellent. The chairs were not comfortable though. The food was just ok. Not worth the price. My husband ordered chicken paillard and said it was a bit dry and needed a sauce. I ordered Campanelle and it was just ok - definitely not worth the $20 they charge for it. The double baked frites were good though. If they improve the food I will recommend it. Until then I probably won't."

  • "We had dinner here following my son's graduation from college, so Hyde Park was mobbed. I made a reservation several months in advance, and the event coordinator, Eva, couldn't have been more helpful or professional. There was a prix fixe menu the evening we ate there, I guess because we were 11 people, but everyone from the kids to the grandparents found something they were happy to eat and that they found delicious. The waiters were cheerful and helpful, as was the sommelier, and all in all it was a pretty perfect dinner. Hyde Park sure has needed a great restaurant for a long time; I hope it appreciates A10. I'm looking forward to coming back and trying the regular menu."

  • "We had dinner there, as well as Father's Day brunch. Wonderful pea soup; Rushing Waters trout was superb, beautifully presented--my husband thought it the best fish dish he'd ever eaten. Server was friendly and informative, although one wine order was not brought until the main course arrived; server said the wine should wait for the main course. My husband had no drink for about half an hour. Brunch less successful. Very long wait for food. Two of us ordered French toast; both orders were burned on one side, but burnt side was facing down. Server did not return after food arrived, hence could not be told about burnt items. Modern, casual atmosphere. Front staff cheerfully accommodated requests for changes to our reservation."

  • "This was our second visit in six months. Menu is more diverse. Food flavors seemed more balanced and surprising. The ecsarole salad was fabulous great balance of sweet / sour / spice / heat. and Server Malcolm was wonderful as were other attentive staff. Thanks for special gluten free considerations.Well worth the money. We'll be back."

  • "We were seated and our drink order was taken promptly. I was surprised coffee and tea were not listed on the menu, so we had no idea how much they cost. The cream curdled in my first cup of decafe. The second cup was delicious. The waiter told us a soft shell crab was the special of the day, for $16. After ordering it ,the waiter returned and said the special was 2 soft shell crabs for $26. We waited a long time to see the menu again. The brussel sprout omelet, steak, and duck confit were very good. We are not often in Hyde Park for brunch, but would return if convenient. The food was good, and the atmosphere pleasant. However, they have some kinks to work out."

  • "Love this restaurant...have been there twice. The pasta dishes are excellent...also beet salad!!but the price of a glass of chardonnay is $18.00...way too expensive and no other price options for Chardonnay..."

  • "I took two family friends who were visiting from out of town and they were suitably impressed with how lovely the food and staff were at A10. Standouts of the meal included Venison Tartare, Maitake mushrooms in butter and sherry vinegar, and delicious basil olive oil donuts with strawberry rhubarb jam. There has been a very consistent improvement in quality over the past few months, and it's wonderful to know that we know have such a high quality and reliable restaurant in the neighborhood. "

  • "Our group of four enjoyed this new addition to the Hyde Park dining options. I loved the rack of lamb -- perfectly cooked and seasoned; the accompanying dish was undistinguished. We were hoping for a more quiet time, especially on a Tuesday, but it was still lively. Don't know if anything could be done about buffering noise."

  • "A10 has excellent food. Everyone loved their meal and we just had to taste each others because everything looked so good. A very good wait staff. Except that the food was sooo good, we would cross this place off because of one thing - the seating indoors. If you get stuck on the bench side of the table bring a phone book to sit on. "

  • "The server went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we need. He even brought us ice-cream to go with our dessert because I had indicated a preference in passing."

  • "I did not care for the initial meal selected and they provided another choice. This was very much appreciated. The chef even stopped by to ask if I liked the second choice. My husband selected a special (pork chops) and his meal was excellent."

  • "Went here for my friend's birthday lunch. Food was interesting...unusual takes on old standards, like Salade Nicoise. Worked pretty well. Biggest complaint was there was carpentry work being done on the floor above and the intermittent, loud, hammering was very distracting and made the experience significantly less pleasant. The staff was apologetic and kept saying they were trying to stop it but it took til we were almost finished for the hammering to stop. I am not that much of a stickler about things like this but this one was problematic."

  • "In Chicago for business. Read magazine where A10 was rated one of top 15 new restaurants. Wanted to try it and was able to get a reservation. Menu sounded interesting. Food is very eclectic. Different combinations of flavors and ingredients. Definitely not traditional Italian. Certainly an restaurant for the adventurous. Very enjoyable evening. Really good wine list. Our server was excellent. I'd go back and try it again."

  • "We had tickets to see a show at Cort Theater and needed a place nearby A10 was such a wonderful treat! I had the beets for a starter and the lobster pasta dish and both were excellent! We even shared the chocolate dessert and it was super yummy! The staff was excellent. I would highly recommended A10!!!"

  • "Although this place looks nice, it is very uncomfortable. It is cold, loud and the service is terrible. We waited one half hour for our entrees and the waitress never apologized. They charged us $4 for the bread which turned out to be a small baguette sliced into quarters. The food was okay but the wine list was overpriced. The tables are small and close together making the experience very uncomfortable. Also they had the air conditioner blasting and everyone in the place had to eat wearing their coats. The valet was the friendliest person we met. Staff tends to stand in corners talking to each rather than actually waiting on you. "

  • "I did not know what to expect from A10, but I should not have been surprised since its chef/owner ran the kitchen for so many years at Charlie Trotters, The food combinations, I think, are somewhat unique. There were 3 of us dining and we started with a couple small plates, Marinated Beets, Octopus Panelle, Escarole Salad and the garlic Soup. All wonderful and all combinations of unusual ingredients. We also had one large plate, the Mustard Rigatoni w/Porchetta and the Portobello Pizza. The mustard sauce was very interesting and unexpected in a pasta dish. All and all a marvelous meal."

  • "Went to A10 after reading much of the national/local media hype, but also after hearing a few negative reviews of poor and inconsistent service and food. The food was all very good, especially the pasta dishes. However, the service still remains uneven. Although our server was attentive, informative, and friendly, the service overall had some trouble with timing and being at the same time over/under attentive. The dining room nicely decorated, but the banquet seating is weirdly low. The noise level was reasonable to have conversation. It's a great addition to Hyde Park and expect it to be busy with the locals. If you're in HP definitely go, but don't think it's worth a trip to Hyde Park just for A10. "

  • "We really enjoyed our dinner here. Great service, loved Malcolm, made us feel like regulars after just our second visit. It’s a great addition to our neighborhood! The pizzas are served on more of ciabatta type bread and are worth a try, the country bacon pizza was as smokey as you can get this side of the Mason-Dixon line and the mushroom pizza was just plain delicious. Save room for desert! The chocolate torte is perfect for any chocolate lover. If you’re up to trying something new and different then go for the sweet pea zeppole, very creative and not too sweet."

  • "We had a great dinner with friends at A10! We had 2 great bottles of gigondas wine. And some lovely after dinner port. The beets were a favorite appetizer. We ordered two pasta dishes and 2 meat dishes which were all great. We don't usually order dessert but the soft serve ice cream was amazing! We will definitely be back. "

  • "I was extremely disappointed in the meal. We always look forward to enjoying amazing meals during our trips to Chicago and this was the absolute worse meal we have ever experienced not only in Chicago but in any city we have visited. It's a shame because we truly were looking forward to a wonderful experience after the reviews we read prior to our dining experience. "
