Diner Reviews
  • "I made reservations for our dinner, and requested a table next to the window. My request was granted, and we had a beautiful view of the Golden Gate, fog shrouded that it was! Our waiter, Kevin, was friendly, patient, and prompt. He was knowledgeable about gluten intolerance, and what menu items were gluten free. I will return!"

  • "The burger that my son had was a bit dry (not juicy at all). But otherwise, the food was very good."

  • "This is a wonderfully romantic and friendly restaurant tucked away on the edge of Tiburon. The service and ambiance clearly outshine the food, yet they have done a very nice job in that respect as well. We will definitely return and likely make it our get-a-way from the city."

  • "A Caprice has the most spectacular view in Marin County, perhaps in the whole Bay Area. So it wasn't unpleasant when our food and drink orders took a very long time to arrive. My husband loved this wienerschnitzel but my pork tenderloin was unremarkable. We will return for the view on special occasions and with guests from out of town."

  • "You can't beat this place for the beautiful view of the SF Bay. Scallops were excellent but the wiener schnitzel was a bit tasteless and dry. Service was excellent."

  • "We've eaten at Caprice several times now and the food is fabulous, the view of the bay spectacular. Not sure why the Hostess doesn't give more of a 'welcoming' vibe? The last 2 times dining here, our wait staff 'disappeared' after serving the entree, which is not good if you'd like another glass of wine. It's not an inexpensive restaurant, so we'd expect the staff to be a little more attentive to the guests. After all, they are also part of our dining experience."

  • "The dining room is small but almost every table has a great view of San Francisco, the Golden Gate Bridge, and Angel Island. The food is expertly prepared and presented. The kitchen is very efficient as there was a minimal wait between courses ordered. The wait staff is efficient and personable. The waiter has been working there for 14 years but is excellent and knows what he is doing. On the Sunday night I was there, he handled the whole dining room with ease and efficiency. One of the nicest dining experiences I've had."

  • "Excellent food and great view of San Francisco Bay and the Golden Gate Bridge. Service was also excellent. I highly recommend dining here and will return in the future."

  • "As we have always found at A Caprice over the years, the food and ambiance were outstanding. We were very disappointed in the wait service; everything arrived in proper order and without delay, but our waiter was devoid of personality, made no suggestions, and offered nothing following the main course: no coffee, no dessert menu….nothing. My recollection is, he didn't even bring the check; only our change of a dollar and coins from our Living Social coupon, and check from Open Table! That issue not withstanding, it was a most enjoyable evening!"

  • "A Caprice is truly a favorite. This quiet Tiburon gem sits above Raccoon Strait, one of the most beautiful spots in the bay area. The food and ambience are top notch, and for those occasions where a less boisterous atmosphere is desired, this is your place. The excellence of the food and service are "givens," and all one needs to do is show up, settle in, and relax."

  • "Always a fantastic experience. Staff is attentive without being a bother. Food is perfectly cooked and presented well. Great wine list."

  • "This is my second time there, everything is as fantastic as my first time, even more the dessert "snooker" cake is the best cake and ice cream I've ever tried. Ambience makes me very comfortable, I love this restaurant, I love everything here! Highly recommended!"

  • "The Caprice (not A Caprice) is situated right on the water in Tiburon with a beautiful view of the Golden Gate Bridge and Angel Island. Food is average to good and more expensive than it should be for the quality. A lovely quiet and romantic setting."

  • "Menu that should satisfy all tastes; rack of lamb done just right; filet of sole had fresh, delicate flavor served over risotto. The lobster crepe was a little disappointing-the crepe was soggy, "lobster" tasted more like langostino. Service was ok but ended up pouring our own wine. Would return for special occasion."

  • "A nice little quaint restaurant tucked away in Tiburon! They are located on the edge of the ocean but have free valet parking as it's on a tiny road! Overall a very nice place to dine! Entrees are generous! Appetizer plates small! Enjoyed dining at this romantic restaurant! Good food ! Lamb Shank, and Sole Fish was delectable! Crab Cakes also worth a try! Very nice ambience ! Enjoyed it thoroughly! I have dined at several ocean front restaurants like them all! This one is cozy and not one bit disappointing!"

  • "A Caprice is a consistent romantic gem. Foods always very good with few surprises. With a over the water head on view of the Golden Gate Bridge like being on a ship with giant Bay windows that does not sway. Service was at a high level to match the quiet romantic atmosphere."

  • "The best part of dining at A Caprice is the view. All the tables have a dramatic view of SF and Angel Island. The food was good, the service was friendly but slow. Unfortunately since we were a table of six, we were seated along a wall so half of the table could see the view and the other half only the wall. The wine list was good and very reasonably priced."

  • "Just past the small circle of Downtown Tiburon and our ferry landing, the Caprice sits out over the water. I have dined here multiple times and every time has featured fantastic food, perfect service and stunning views. Food items that have delighted: lamb chops, steak, halibut and (this trip) scallops and lobster crepe. The view features a constant of Angel Island, Tiburon and the Golden Gate Bridge, and also includes an ever-changing level of sea birds, sea lions and porpoises. I am a local and can't recommend this place enough for a special night out."

  • "We have a tradition of going to the Caprice for special occasions, and last Saturday night was my husband's birthday. Most tables are next to windows, but we requested one in advance to make sure. The surf and turf was filet mignon and lobster tail. It was the best lobster we had ever had, and my husband is from Boston! It was well cooked, but moist inside and not tough or too chewy. The Caprice never disappoints."

  • "We celebrated our daughter's birthday at the Caprice. Arriving at 5:00 gave us a window table with a great view of sail boats in Racoon Straights, and views of San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge. The service and the food were excellent."

  • "2nd time at Caprice. First time lunch....2nd time dinner. Great place to take visitors to SF as the view can be spectacular "on a clear day". Fortunately, it was clear both times! Great Food too!"

  • "The food and restaurant were wonderful. The service was poor, there was not enough staff to handle all of the customers. Our waiter did not seem to care about us and only stopped by once or twice. We had to ask for more water and butter numerous times. We were there on a Sat. night, need more help"

  • "the food was good and the view is one of the best in the bay area but the service was bad and in the end they tried to charge us double for the desert."

  • "We have eaten at Caprice for special events for many years and this was the best yet. Maybe because it was Sunday evening and we arrived at 7:45. Window table and attentive service throughout the meal. Quiet after about half an hour or so. Perfect Beef Wellington and four luscious scallops, both entrees artistically presented. Half a salad was just the right size appetizer. Shared a delicious apple tart for dessert. Selection of wine by the glass was minimal, but the champagne was excellent. Well worth the $120 including tip. Valet parking prompt."

  • "Went early the day before Valentines Day. Had a wonderful time. Escargot with mushrooms, grilled artichokes, scallops, fillet, wine, champagne. Everything was very tasty and beautifully presented. Prices are reasonable. Free valet parking makes it easy. Was empty when we arrived at 5:30 and full when 2 hours later when we left. We slowed the pace. If you prefer to dine faster I'm sure you could."

  • "The place itself is still a convincing evocation of 50's/60's waterfront dining....it's just that the food ranges from mediocre to completely tasteless. We went for Valentine's Day dinner (a day late) and had a very nice table and pleasant server for a very forgettable dinner - pork loin without taste, prawns in a chicken stock sauce, mashed potatoes that seemed like they came from a box. We won't be back unless someone new takes over the kitchen."

  • "My husband and I went here for the Valentine's day. I book the spot 2 months in advance and asked like five times to sit us near the vindow with a good bay view. They sat us in the corner where I had to break my nexck in order to look at the seal through the vindow. They sat a big company with the best window view, and they could care less! They were more busy celebrating something and looking at each other! Such sloppiness just irritates! The food was decent, although lobster I got was tough meaning it was frozen for a loooooooooong time. The muscles that came with it were great, but the scallops were tasteless. I could prepare better! My husband's steak was great. One desert was good, the other - not so much. I am not impressed!"

  • "Spent an evening in Tiburon and found A Caprice. It was within walking distance, so we enjoyed the scenic walk along the pathway. Nice cozy restaurant, with amazing views of the Bay and GG Bridge. Started with escargots and beef carpaccio. Although had great garlic flavor, needed salt. For dinner I had the scallops and girlfriend had the filet mignon. Both were cooked perfectly, but were under seasoned and salt was needed. The dessert (lemon tart) was amazing! The food was fabulous, but it did need a bit of help with seasoning. Service was quite slow, as there was only one waiter and one busser. The waiter was also the host. I would definitely return, but I think for the prices were too steep for what was produced."
