  • "I heard of 843 from my realtor last summer and was so impressed with this little gem tucked away at the end of a strip shopping center. We took the family again this year and my boys asked if we could cancel all of our other reservations this week and just go here every night! Love this place! Staff is extremely friendly and relaxed (not stuffy). Owner comes out, personally, and check to see how we are doing. I love that they mix different foods that you would not expect together and they taste amazing!"

  • "I have been to 843 several times. The food is always excellent, as well as the Wait Staff. The atmosphere is so charming. For a Restaurant in a shopping center, this a well hidden rare find. The decor is very well done and adds to the atmosphere. Highly recommend the "Beet Salad." Had the Rib Eye Special and was one of the best Rib Eye I ever had. The menu is Great as it is not the same boring menu you find in most upscale restaurants. A Sparkling Refreshing Gem for Hilton Head!"

Often the case on Hilton Head that service can make or break a place so hopefully wait staff can be on par with the chef and his menu as this a unique addition to island dining options"

  • "We enjoyed both the food and ambience at 843. The majority of the wait staff was attentive and thorough, and the manager was both informative and interested in our experience. Had to deal with a strong thunder storm at the end of our meal, which drove us inside, but tables were available and more coffee was made available. Music helped the ambience. We will return."

The food was incredible and the desert "Chocolate Pot De Creme" ( Kim's suggestion) was out of this world. We definitely will return and enjoy the experience again."

  • "This new restaurant was outstanding. The food was imaginative and well-executed, without being overly esoteric. We all loved our appetizers and entrees. Outdoor seating was casual and pleasant but could be difficult if the humidity is higher. We have been going to Hilton Head for years and this was one of the best restaurant experiences, bar none. We will definitely go back on our next Hilton Head excursion."

  • "Our first visit will not be our last. Started with soup of the day as well as a special lobster flan app both were delicious. Partner had a gourmet burger which was fabulous and I had the farrow salad thT I want the recipe as inM a FAN. Cocktails were refreshing and wine list a joy. We had a short stop on our way to another event so will return for another dining experience!"

  • "Was recommended this place by a friend. Enjoyed the look & feel of the interior. Noise was not an issue. Unique menu with several burgers, but other large plates sounded good. My girlfriend & I started with the watermelon & tomato salad, one of my favorite dishes. For entrees, I had the short rib & she had the lamb. Both of our proteins were prepared perfectly & tasted great. For dessert we had the orange lavender creme brûlée. I don't care for them, however she loves them & enjoyed their offering. The onions were a little overpowering on the salad and my brussel sprouts were a little undercooked. The wine service was a bit shaky, but the French Syrah made-up for it. Overall a good spot."

  • "It was a very nice dinner. We ate inside because of the heat but they have a very nice outside dining area with ceiling fans which looked like it would be comfortable outside as well. Food and service was excellent. We will definitely go back. The menu has a variety of choices. I ordered the pork chop which was excellent. Excellent wind selection and great desserts. We will try the 843 for lunch also. I would put the 843 among the best restaurants we have been to."

  • "We loved the relaxed atmosphere both on the patio and inside. Although expensive, the wine list is very extensive. The menu is an eclectic mix of both local and home made. They grind their own meat for hamburgers, and I found it too dense with not enough fat to make the burger juicy. My husband had the cioppino and raved about it! Also went with a group of women for lunch and all 9 loved their various dishes."

  • "We had a very strange experience here. We were seated outside in a lovely patio area. I started with the grain salad which was superb. Then something happened. We had ordered a bottle of wine and this was gone before anyone came over to mention our entrees. Then it was the owner (I guess) who came over to apologize for the delay in receiving our food and refilled our wine glasses. No sign of the waitress though. The food was finally brought to the table with more apologies (still no waitress). I saw the maitre d turn people away from the door without seating them before closing, so something must have happened. But I would give the place a second try - the owner was very nice and the food was great, when we finally got it."

  • "The dining room is lovely, one of the nicest on the island. From the bar, as good as mixed drinks get. The menu while perhaps trying just a bit too hard to be clever. was a good mixture of very creative options and many some more basic fare (even with some surprises - Penne pasta in a Cesar salad? It was awesome)). The wine list was hard to navigate again with a lot of pithy descriptions but there were some good selections But it all fell part with service that was rushed then inattentive. Just no where near what you would expect given the quality of the food - and the prices. If that does not improve 843 sadly will struggle."

  • "We had a perfect dinner at this lovely restaurant 843, #2 restaurant by same owner of Vine. Steve you have a Gem. Loved the feel of a Beach Cottage. The lighting was perfect dim,romantic,without needing a flashlight. Music (live) outside was pleasant,and could be heard on speakers inside.I prefer inside dining.You get the ambiance of this lovely room. We both had the Fish special Black Bass (local) wonderful.Yes its pricey,but you get the whole package.Wonderful food,excellent service,and beautiful surroundings. Oh yes great wine list,and please you can find a reasonable bottle of wine. "

  • "Top to bottom, beginning to end, 843 is a treasure on the island. DeeDee, our server, was incredibly informed, very helpful, not at all overbearing - essentially the consummate server. Everything we ordered was delicious. The farro salad alone was worth the visit! For the self-annointed "foodies", Chef Gow's 843 is a destination not to be missed!"

  • "Fantastic addition to HHI culinary scene. Steve and team have done it again with another terrific restaurant which complements Vine beautifully. Classy, comfortable, friendly and nicely decorated. Can eat inside or outside on a covered deck. Bar seats too. Great menu with 3 fresh catches today (Scottish salmon, snapper and swordfish). Fish fresh, never frozen. 3 choices of preparation - liked Steve's. Gourmet burgers a nice surprise. Tomato Cabernet soup terrific. Nice staff and a great dining experience. Highly recommend."

  • "This was our second visit for dinner. Seated inside, it was warm. Entrees, heavy on seafood, were very good, but pricey. My PEI mussels in a putanesca sauce was a tasty dish, but some of the mussels were "off" and should not have been served. The caesar salad is odd -- includes bacon bits and pasta, but anchovies only on request. Wine list remains globally interesting. "

We were told that the patio was closed, yet the tables were set but I was told it was 'too breezy' to sit outside on a gorgeous HH evening. Points lost immediately. The food was good but surprisingly overpriced. Yuri Gow is a great chef, but not $40 / plate good. Waiters are rather condescending and pushy. I would go back if it was a special occassion."
