Diner Reviews
  • "Food was great and great atmosphere. Staff was very honest about what was good on the menu and what was not so popular. Restaurant was quiet and it was easy to talk. Would definitely recommend."

  • "I'm luving 82 Queen... One of my favorite spots to eat downtown"

  • "Uncomfortable and cold as the rooms are outside and the heat was way too low. Food portions were small and nothing special"

  • "82 Queen has become one of our favorites in Charleston. All aspects of the experience were terrific - food, staff, ambience. There are many options for dining while in Charleston - but don't miss 82 Queen."

  • "Jambalaya never fails. Tomato bites were very good also. Portions on filet and duck breast entrees underwhelmed my family members who ordered them. House made sangria was also refreshing; would order that again. "

  • "Really nice dinner - friendly and efficient service, really nice food, terrific setting for a group of four to talk without having to shout. The only odd thing was having to walk in the rain to get to the upstairs room. They provided an umbrella for that but it was still very unusual. "

  • "We were told that the Greenhouse was warmed with heaters, and the day was cold. We sat in there and about 'froze!' The heater for our section didn't work! Waiters were constantly having to fiddle with it! The food was good, except for dry chicken on the grits, fried tomato, and crab cake dish. The crab cake was awesome! We have had better She crab soup, it was just okay. Loved the fried green tomatoes! The service was good, not great! Chairs very loud on the bricks! Hard to move! "

  • "We came here for lunch to celebrate our daughter's 21st birthday and everything was outstanding. Nice atmosphere in the greenhouse with heaters that kept us comfortable on an unusually cool spring day. To start we shared the green tomato bites and a side of fried oysters, both of which were delicious, especially the tomato bites. The chicken and crab dish had all of our favorite things and so many great flavors blended together: grilled chicken breast, crab cake, fried green tomato, all over grits. My husband loved the jambalaya that had a kick to it. Our server, Scott, was friendly and attentive and helped make this celebration special for us. Can't wait to return on a future visit to Charleston."

  • "My husband and I were so disappointed in our dinner here on a Saturday night. First, our icy hostess stuck us in a dining room with one other couple. It felt like we were in a library. The she crab soup was warm, not hot. My duck was ok. It was overpowered by the cherry sauce. My husband's sheepshead was a joke. It was so small and the beans were so undercooked. The lemon cake was just ok. Our waitress was nice at least. Will definitely NOT return. "

  • "I dined at 82 Queen with a friend on a recent Saturday evening, and I had an excellent experience. The appetizers (she crab soup for me, salad for friend) and entrees were delicious (I had the duck, my friend had the filet); the cocktails were strong; and the wine recommended by the server was spot-on. We were first-time diners and dined outside in the garden area; I read other reviews about how nice it was to dine outside, and I have to agree that the ambience was very elegant (not in a white table cloth way, but in a natural/outdoor Charlestonian way). I will definitely return again. Also, I highly recommend Scott as a server. He did an excellent job."

  • "Service was in attentive and slow and although the food was unobjectionable, it came to the table lukewarm. The staff discounted our bill when we mentioned this but the damage was done."

  • "My 2nd visit here and it was depressing. They seated us in a location that was sad. Imagine sitting in an old woman's sun room overlooking the garage and air conditioner. When asked to move, they refused. They weren't full and had multiple empty tables. Atmosphere is a huge part of the experience. Who cares if they are trying to distribute the patrons for their waitstaff? It's our dollar and experience. Rearrange the waitstaff and tables! Put people in ideal locations. Nobody wants a view of the air conditioner. Atmosphere can make up for poor food and vice versa. Unfortunately, tonight the food was average at best and the atmosphere was poor. Charleston has choices and this one won't make the list again."

  • "What a delight to sit outside in beautiful setting sipping bubbly and eating such wonderful food. The state of Maryland has nothing on the crab cakes at 82 Queen. They were so good we went back the next day for more. And don't miss the salmon either. Simply spectacular."

  • "We were sadly disappointed in the obvious slow service which was not the fault of the waiter. Food was very good but a little over priced."
    Dined on 4/13/2014
  • "Our dinner was less than memorable at 82 queen. Not bad food but not great for the price point I ate at 8 restaurants/ food venues over 3 days in Charlestown and 82 queen is the only one I would not rush back to. I went for their she crab soup, it was just ok and salty. Rack of lamb was not a full rack and the duck was over cooked and over salted. Great ambience but there are too many other choices in a great food city for me to return or recommend 82 queen."

  • "one of the best features about 82 Queen for me is the outdoor garden seating. There are several areas with different types of seating available (some partially covered) that makes this such a charming place to dine. We arrived at 5pm when doors open and were able to get a coveted table for 6 in the gazebo which is open at the sides so you see the whole garden area but has a private feeling. I had was the green tomato bites appetizer with a pesto aoli which was scrumptious as was the salmon entree. The one thing I don't recommend and had to change was the sangria which was not smooth or sweet...but very dry. Great dining but it's expensive. with one cocktail, one appetizer, and entree the bill was $50 before tax and tip."

  • "We go to 82 Queen every time we visit Charleston. It is a "must go" for me and my hunny! Our last visit to Charleston was spent in Sullivan's Island, but we still made a point to cross the bridge and dine there. The food is delicious! Authentically Southern! Excellent service! We have always wanted to lick our plates each time and we've been going there for 3 years now. Love! Love! Love!"

  • "Fabulous service and awesome ambience at this Charleston treasure. Appetizer tomato bites were ho hum, but entrees were excellent and wine was superb. Some of the best shrimp and grits in town, and the collard greens side was the best I have ever had."

  • "My wife and I were able to dine on the patio away from the noise of the bar and it was very enjoyable. We both tried one of their low country dinners, she had the fried chicken and I had the shrimp and grits. Both were very good. Our server was was the definition of southern hospitality. I was happy to fine one of my favorite Pino Noirs wines from Paso Robles, Ca on their list. A good place to go back to someday."

  • "Great courtyard dining with delightful evening atmosphere. Food was well prepared and presented; all diners enjoyed their meals. Service was a tag team of two wait staff, who were both competent in their own right, but had too much of the room to cover for the two of them- long wait to order, dishes left on table for quite a while, no offers to refill drinks or bread. Have had better service in Charleston given the price paid."

  • "While visiting Charleston this past week we dined at 82 Queen. We were asked if we wanted to sit outside but felt it was too cool at 8:30 p.m.. We felt that we were unwelcome throughout the whole meal indoors. We were a late reservation and the staff wanted to clean up for the night. They swept the floor, set tables and attended to paperwork as we finished our meal. Also the restaurant was freezing which one waiter said had been a problem all night. We asked if we could have it a bit warmer and they did turn up the heat a notch. The hostess just told us to put a menu over the heating vent. Our waiter was knowledgable about the food and quite personable. The sad part was that the food was very delicious. I wished we could have enjoyed it."

  • "The she crab soup is delicious. Service was fantastic. The only thing of note (not really negative) is that I called before going to find out the dress. I was told business casual, so that is what I wore. I noticed that other diners were wearing very casual clothing so I was confused as to what the dress requirements actually were, if any. But, overall, a great restaurant and experience."

  • "This was a very nice choice for Southern food. We researched many restaurants and picked this based on the menu and recommendations from friends and very positive online reviews. We would recommend this place to our friends as well. We love the food and the atmosphere and would dine here again next time we visit Charleston."

  • "This restaurant had been highly recommended and we were very much looking forward. Unfortunately the meal did not live up to my expectations. As the restaurant is renowned for it she crab soup that is what I started with. It arrived cold and very loaded with Sherry. I then decided to try the corn chowder which indeed was delicious. I ordered the lobster appetizer and that wasvery beautifully presented and tasty. Overall the dining experience was not really what I expected."

  • "82 Queen was recommend to us by my dad's boss. The restaurant was very unique and super historic! We were seating very quickly upon arriving. We got the She Crab Soup ( so amazing and the best part of the meal!!!) we also got the fried green tomatoes that were good but nothing special. I ordered the restaurant's signature dish: the BBQ Shrimp and Grits it was amazing! My dad got the jambalaya that was an okay portion but was not the best he had ever had. My friend got the truffled Cauliflower that was also a small portion but was very good. For dessert we got the sorbet of the day and the White Chocolate and Limoncello cake with a blueberry compote. Good place to visit to experience the food of Charleston."

  • "82 Queen is one of our favorite restaurants for goumet food in Charleston. You can always count on the very best seafood, with the very best she crab soup available. The service is impeccable, and the server gave us very honest and true evaluation of the dished we ordered. We will definitely be back again."

  • "Different small rooms. Salmon was outstanding. Shrimp and grits were not over salted/overseasoned. Service was efficient and friendly. You have to walk outside to get to your table. Note that if it is raining before leaving your umbrella behind. Parking is just across the street in a pay garage."

  • "We've been to 82 Queen many times, never disappointed."

  • "This was the poorest dining experience we have had in Charleston. At dinner, one meal was delivered very late, after the others at the table were more than half way finished. Two dinners out of four were under cooked. When we asked the server for an adjustment, we got some push back. They finally agreed to take off one of our appetizers. We will not be returning to 82 Queen."

  • "When we unknowingly planned our trip to Charleston during Bridge Run weekend, we were unable to get a reservation at any of the better-known spots on East Bay/Broad. What a happy discovery we made in 82 Queen! Tucked away in an alley on Queen Street, the restaurant's garden seating reminded us of some of the little cafes in Plaka from our trip to Athens. On a busy night, we were seated inside, though. We were especially impressed with the bourbon cocktails, she-crab soup, and fried green tomatoes. The fried chicken entree reminded my husband of days at his grandparents' house as a little boy. Lobster entree was a small portion (we were warned by the waiter), but delicious. Wait staff was friendly and knowledgable. Recommend!"
