Our 2nd visit, the 1st was shortly after opening. 1st impressions very positive; the restaurant is attractively decorated. There is sense of energy & coolness to the place. Entrees start at $26,but mostly are in the $35-$40 range. Premium priced wine list, averaging 3x retail. My wife's grouper was well prepared, crispy and delicious. The accompanying gnocchi were good as was her side of fried Brussels sprouts. While it was entertaining to have my Branzino plated table side, the fish was very overcooked. My butternut squash cubes were tasty, but also on the mushy side. The waitstaff & hostesses were friendly, but seem rehearsed or scripted rather than genuine. Moreover, they bordered on obtrusive side of attentiveness. Better choices in KC.

We dined at 801 Fish after a great bar experience a few months ago. We went to the bar after checking in & I was disappointed to see the drink I'd previously had was no longer on the menu. I asked the same bartender who had fixed it for me before, if I could still get it. He attempted to recreate it, but it wasn't the same. In the dining area, we had a fantastic beef carpaccio appetizer, followed by 2 good entrees, & split a dessert that was delivered to the table from the pastry chef herself. The evening was good, food was definitely above average. Having said that, the prices were higher than expected & makes it somewhere we'd only go on special occasion. We left satisfied, but not overly full, & $150 poorer.

Service was great. We had a delay in the arrival of one of our sides and they gave it to us for free. The Music is a little on the bump and grind side for such a high class restaurant but that's just what my wife and I thought

We celebrated our anniversary there and had a great time. The staff made us feel special with decorations on the table, a free small glass of champagne, and numerous staff members wishing us well. Our server, Catie (sp) was very knowledgeable, personable, and fun. The food was outstanding and all of this made it for a very nice night for us

As always, 801 Fish never disappoints. The food is the best in the KC area, prepared exceptionally well. Staff is attentive and anticipates your every need. Sit at the "Chef's Table", which is really another bar and get treated like royalty. The remember your name, everything you love and are at the ready for suggestions of new options. No is not in 801 Fish's vocab. Save room for dessert, they are insane!!! Choc. mousse is amazing, but the homemade sorbets rock!! Being a transplant from CA for the past 16 years, finally fresh fish that only option is salmon :) Keep it up 801 Fish and all the landlocked beef loving locals will convert!

Sat at the bar for dinner and thoroughly enjoyed my experience. The restaurant is beautiful inside- I loved the art deco stained glass over the bar. Bartender (Wil) was attentive, very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu- Everything on the menu sounded amazing, and I was having a hard time deciding- at his recommendation I had the crudo and the lemon sole, both of which were fantastic. I let him select the wine for dinner based on what he thought would go with the meal and I was not disappointed. Had a great evening- the whole dining experience was just what I was hoping for. I will definitely be coming back. (Dying to try the oysters!)

We went here to celebrate our anniversary. We had a great time our waiter explained the menu to us with all those mouth watering ingredients and food was actually very good. We had calamari and it was crispy on the outside as it should be not soggy and the squid was not tough. Lobster, shrimp and fish were juicy. When our waiter was busy there would always be someone to check on us if we needed anything. The only fall back was when a couple was seated next to us about 30mins before we're done and the couple were very loud. Now we know his whole life story. In total, it was a good experience for us. We'll surely be back.

There for an anniversary dinner. Lovely rooms, quiet, not too dark, well spaced tables. Sat next to floor to ceiling glass wine cellar, a rich feature in the comfortable space. Dinner was terrific, well paced. Spicy mussels (the mussels a bit small) but delicious sausage, beer, fennel broth and garlic toast.) Grilled romaine salad not to be missed and young knowledgeable waiter recommended splitting the huge portion. He also recommended the pan roasted branzino, great down to the buttery crispy skin. The scallops on the other dish were huge and tender..dishes are expensive but are not over priced given the freshness, care, portion sizes and imagination of the dishes. Corkage allowed fortunately ... wine markups are crazy like everywhere.

My wife and I had dinner at 801 Fish on September 6. Our entire meal & service was 5 Stars...without a doubt! Our server, Chris MacDougall, along with the maitre d' were superb throughout the evening. We had the Calamari Fritti for appetizer that was seasoned perfectly & melted in our mouths. The grilled hearts of romaine Caesar salad was awesome, served with a soft boiled egg on the top...the best Caesar salad I have ever had. She had the panned seared scallops and I had the lobster linguini for our entrees. Once again, the chef cooked them to perfection, great taste and temperature. The $25 corkage charge is reasonable. Our meal was pricey...but it was worth it. We'll be back.

Great for fresh seafood(flown in daily) and prime, melt in your mouth steaks, prepared in the most exquisite ways! Executive Chef Nicholas knows what the customer will love. He leads his team to work their magic in the kitchen under his expert instruction. Nicholas, the wine stewards, and wait staff (Michael) are knowledgable about prep, foods, and wines, and check to make sure the diner is satisfied with their choices. They all made a twenty first anniversary a memorable experience and made us feel happy with our choice of establishment.

We were a party of 5 including 3 children that had a very delectable dinner. Bread was served right away. The appetizers and salad/dinners were excellent. We had Oysters on the half shell, shrimp cocktail. For entrees, we had a filet, full roasted lobster, sea bass and, steak frites, clam fettuccine. They ran out of clams so mussels were substituted. We also ordered a Poilly Fuisse from the under $40 wine menu which was excellent. Seating was delayed by 20 minutes as it was a busy Sat night but we hung out at the bar until seated which was fabulous.
