Diner Reviews
  • "One of our DC favorites. Jennifer runs a great restaurant. The food was delicious (the cherry mustard should be bottled)--all courses. Naj is an outstanding server. The room is wonderful--classic and quiet."

  • "We were a group of seven. The food was delicious. Some of us ordered extended restaurant week menu. Overall decent value for the menu but few choices for the main course. None of us ate pork. Left us with pasta or salmon If not interested in dessert, ordering appetizer and entree for the same money may give you more choices. Great service, attentive and relaxed. Good for conversation, low noise level"

  • "We jad dinner at 701 to reunite with friends we had not seen in mnay yeats. We chose the perfect setting by selecting 701. Starting with the bat, before dinner cocktails were well prepared. Our dinner choices, salmon a d halibut, were prepared perfectly. Two of us tried the fois gras which was superb! Chris, the somalier recommended different wines to accompany both our appetizers and dinners. Each selection was an excellent choice for our respective meal choices. The piano and base duo were visible to us and very sophisticated in their music choices. I woukld rate this as SINCERELY one of the nicest evenings I have ever enjoued in Washington, DC. Statement of fact: 701 is a fabulous restaurant!"

  • "4 of us had lunch during Restaurant Week extended. The food and the service were as outstanding as they were during Restaurant Week itself. Two of had steak and 2 had fish. It was as if Restaurant Week were still on. 701 does not skimp on food. The service was wonderful and outstanding. 701 is a very fine restaurant. We hope to visit it again soon."

  • "The Chef and his staff have created an amazing foodie experience at 701. We all ordered three courses and passed our plates and shared everything. The presentation, new combinations, and flavors will not be forgotten. The staff brought over well-prepared cocktails and are true professionals when it comes to their wines."

  • "Very good food in a quiet, pleasant setting. Service was really fine. The salmon and corn soup were outstanding. And it was a good value since they were extending Restaurant Week. Score."

  • "701 is an amazing Restaurant Week place to go. They always have creative new dishes to try, and a great mix of food you've never tried and food you already know you love. But the reason we keep coming back, RW or no, is Petra. Who needs more stars than 5 for her wonderfulness. She remembers my food allergy and steers me right on what to pick, and it's always delicious. Also, she's just so much fun, and we have a great time with her. It's also really nice to come in and see Jennifer up front. She's always so welcoming. Thanks!"

  • "Found 701 through the Washingtonian Magazine's 100 best restaurant list. Happened to be in DC during restaurant week with special deals for a three course meal. Enjoyed a delicious three course meal for only 35.00. Service was outstanding. Would recommend giving the restaurant a try."

  • "We enjoyed going to this restaurant years past. We haven't been in quite a long time -- not since the remodel. We miss the caviar bar but 701 is is as good now as it was then. Great place for "mature" adults who like to enjoy a nice evening out and conversation with friends. The piano bar is a wonderful place to chill after a meal."

  • "We ate at an outside table, so can't comment on ambience or noise level, but the service was very good. In addition, it was Restaurant Week with a restricted menu for all clientele. The appetizers were excellent & we were all anticipating a great meal, but we were greatly disappointed! My salmon was not high quality; the hangar steak was equally mediocre. The desserts were worse: stale doughnuts, poor quality carrot cake--- a very big letdown. All agreed that we would not return."

  • "One of the best outdoor dining spots in DC, and great location. The food is excellent and the service is some of the best in DC - typical of Knightsbridge Restaurant Group. Also, like its sister restaurants, one of the best places for Restaurant Week."

  • "Went here for summer restaurant week 2014. Server was friendly. Tuna and Beef appetizers were both delicious. The pasta with a duck meat sauce and goat cheese had great flavors however it came to the table at room temperature instead of freshly hot. The steak with eggplant was very good as well. Bread pudding was delicious and carrot cake was even better!"

  • "We had a great dinner. From the creative appetizers to the dessert the meal was spectacular."

  • "I'm sure if it was because of restaurant week, but the portions were incredibly small. I left still pretty hungry. I most excited about the carrot cake, but was the most disspointed in it-- cream cheese frosting was not rich and the carrot cake part didn't have flavor. Beet salad was good, but everything had small portions. We had a drink beforehand and the server and hostess were very friendly. However, our actual waitress was somewhat rude. I think she tried to be funny, but it can across unprofessional and vulgar."

  • "Although my friend and I were taking advantage of Restaurant Week's special lunch prices, we not treated like bargain diners. The staff was courteous and friendly, the service excellent and the food tastefully prepared."

  • "Took my parents out while they were here helping me move. My dad loved it, we all did, but coming from a man who owns a food service company....I'm glad I picked so well!"

  • "We loved our restaurant week lunch, two of us sat outside near the fountains, perfect weather, loved our corn soup, baby arugula salad, steak with eggplant puree, bread pudding and watermelon soup. Very happy to return soon."

  • "Picked the tasting menu with wine pairing. Great value. Was there Saturday night when they had live music (piano and bass). Enjoyed the entire evening."

  • "Official Washington's was on vacation the day we stopped by for lunch after a visit to the National Gallery -- which is a mere 2 blocks away, so perhaps that accounts for our easy reservation -- and unfilled restaurant Our waitress was a hoot, was attentive but not push, and left us for the 2 hr lunch my friend and I enjoyed. Menu as a $ range that lets you splurge or have a reasonably priced sandwich. Direct access to Metro a definite plus. Both our sandwiches were good."

  • "My friend and I went to 701 to celebrate my birthday. We dined on the tasting menu with a tomato theme. Everything was amazing!! The service was fantastic. I would certainly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for something special."

  • "The place looks like a swank Mad Men spot, has fabulous service, and offered delicious, inventive cuisine. We hosted an 80th birthday dinner for 10 in a private booth looking out on the plaza. From young to old, each of us found delightful options. The staff really treated Dad (and Mom) like they were the center of the universe. This was the best meal we had in DC!"

  • "Went to 701 with 3 others from my office for dinner. Food was very good and the presentation was excellent. A bit on the pricey side and the menue for the evening was fairly limited. Pricing such that it seemed most diners were there on expense account. Almost felt odd not to inflate the bill by ordering drinks as just about everyone around us was in to the beer and wine. Honestly, probably would not go to 701 if I were not being reimbursed by my office."

  • "As usual we greatly enjoyed our lunch at 701. Food was superb, service excellent and the atmosphere is always calm and "adult". I've never had a bad dining experience at 701."

  • "Maybe they just had a bad night, but the food was just fair for that calibur restaurant. If it were not for the outstanding wait service, the entire experience would have been terrible. I'm not sure I would try it again."
