Diner Reviews
  • "Our server could not answer any questions regarding the menu or drinks, she disappeared frequently. Our food was served cold and 2 of the orders were incorrect. One order was sent back for corrections and came back for the second time still incorrect. The food probably would have been good had it been served warm and prepared as ordered. "

  • "I took the family here for brunch. I had been before and knew the menu would work- something for a foodie, something for the 'meat and potato' guy. We were seated immediately. The waitress was pleasant and we were checked in on often. Food was tasty- there was nice surprise of flavor even in the simplest dishes. Everyone was happy with their plate. The price was what you would expect to pay for an upscale brunch."

  • "Some of the entrees need some retweaking...Flank Steak was a bit bland & the Pasta Bolognese tastes like Hamburger Helper. Monkfish was excellent & salad with romaine, gorgonzola & balsamic was awesome!!!"

  • "The food and service in the restaurant was top notch. Then I went to the bar and bartender was impeccable in service and great place for Sunday afternoon."

  • "My girlfriend and I stopped by before the John Legend concert on Sunday night. From the greeting to the goodbye, everything was executed perfectly. The food was fantastic, the martini and beer were cold and the waiter was on point. We had a great time and will definitely be headed back soon."

  • "Love this place. Great food and fabulous service. They have small and regular sizes of wine by the glass, which I like. We did a tapas style dinner and loved all of our choices. The last time we were there we had crab cakes and our only disappointment was that they are not currently on the menu."

  • "My wife and I live in Columbia, SC. We are 1st time parents to a 6-week old boy and left him overnight (for the first time) with Grandma to get away for a night on the town in Charlotte to celebrate our 9th anniversary. You can imagine how "perfect" we hoped this night would be. I cannot tell you how impressed and pleased I was with 5 Church from top to bottom. Awesome ambience (especially where we sat - upstairs), the food was exquisite, and the service was top notch. I'm a real big stickler for good service. I don't expect royal treatment but I DO expect people in any line of work to desire excellence and Doug, our server, had dedication personality in spades. Suffice to say, I don't usually leave reviews but had to in this case."

  • "After a less than great previous experience, management went out of their way to correct the problems. Without knowing I had an issue previously, the food, service and surroundings were all one could ask for in a high caliber restaurant. This is the best all around restaurant in Charlotte!"

  • "Our group had mussels, Pasta bolognese and short ribs. Although all the dishes were good, the pasta Bolognese was particularly exceptional. Didn't care for the bread at all. Try George's, Brios or Toscana for good bread and butter. As others have said it's a modern, vibrant environment. Service was very good. It's a nice restaurant and we enjoyed the evening, but no dish was such that we said we can't wait to come back."

  • "Four of us ate at 5Church in advance of a show at Belk Theater. The proximity and strong reputation of the restaurant made it an easy decision. They offer a 3-course pre-fixe menu as an option, which is nice. Two of us used that while the others selected from the menu. Service is truly outstanding. And the kitchen was very accommodating in a request for a special diet. The scallops got rave reviews from our group, as did the skirt steak. The presentation of the food is also of note. It always looks fantastic when it is placed on the table. This will be added to our regular rotation of pre-show places to dine. Two yums up!"

  • "This was our first time at this restaurant and we were very, very happily surprised at how good it was. The food was terrific. The romaine wedge appetizer was great as was the flatbread shrimp. For dinner we both had the hanger steak. It was cooked perfectly and the Gorgonzola sauce on the side was very tasty. The service was very attentive without being annoying. Overall a great dining experience before going to the symphony!"

  • "While the food was good, we did feel a little rushed with the timing of the courses. The server was very aloof and spoke softly in a loud restaurant. He was unable to make any wine suggestions and seemed unwilling to get someone who could. We've been to 5Church before and had much better service."

  • "Very good food. Good service as well. Only complaint was the tables. There is one big bench that is the seat for mulitple tables, but the tables were so close together it was hard to squeeze through with out having my rear ead all over the neighbor's table (and I am on the skinny side). Also the bottom of the pedestal of the table expanded so far on the floor everytime I tried to push myself back into the bench seat I end up pushing the entire table into my companion's mid section. Not cool. Will return, but will request a that doesn't have a bench seat on one side."

  • "Great ambience and front of the house management. lots of management circulating to keep an eye on customer experience. It didn't impact the poor table servcie that we recevied - our server while knowledgable on food and beverage was very distracted and not very attentive. Food was excellent - great quality and very inventive. Ambience funky, fun and comfortable. A little dark for dining because when you can't see the 'pretty food' prepared for you, then it does diminish from the whole sensory journey of dining. Overall very enjoyable and I would dine there again and give another server a chance to change my opiinion on the service levels."

  • "Amazing food, excellent service! Do yourself a favor & have a meal at 5Church. 60 second steak was DIVINE! Petite filet EXCELLENT. Black bean hummus DELISH. Staff knows menu, sommelier is informative & helpful. Great place for date night or girls' night, any special occasion or if you just want the best meal of your life; not a place for taking the kids. Make reservations!"

  • "Went on a Saturday night. The place was packed. Had reservations at 845, didn't get seated until 930. The hostess had no clue and could not give a proper estimate of length of time. All she said was to order drinks at the bar and to keep waiting. Food: muscles, they came out practically dry. Not consistent with the menu. And for the price, we have had better at practically every other restaurant in Charlotte. calamari, it was bland. The sauce didn't help, tasted like mayo. Bacon flatbread, would pass on this item as well. Was basic. Could have done better at home. Lamb burger. Good flavor and cooked to order. However smothered in cheese. Basically impossible to pick up and eat. This restaurant started blasting music at 10pm."

  • "Not packed like every other place in Charlotte on Sundays. Booked three days in advance for eight people. Had no problem extending the reservation to 12. Bottomless mimosas in uptown Charlotte, enough said."

  • "Make sure you get the Viper and Blossom cocktails. They are fantastic. At lunch, the lamb burger is pretty special. No need to hesitate."

  • "We subscribe to the CSO and like to dine uptown before a concert. 5 Church is conveniently near Blumenthal Center so it's ideal. We told them beforehand we were going to the Symphony and they served us promptly and we got out in good time for the short walk. We have been to this restaurant previously and were very impressed. Not this time however. I had the roasted Monkfish which was overcooked and tasteless. It was spoiled by the (likewise) severely overcooked broccoli which tasted as though it had been salted several times and smothered any other taste. My wife had the salmon which was also overwhelmed by the garnish. Next time we will send them back. Unfortunately time pressures often preclude this."

  • "Quality of the food was average. The "60 second" strip steak was tasty but very small with a lot of waste. My Kansas City aged strip had no taste forcing me to use their house steak sauce. Best course was the chocolate 3 ways dessert . Wine list extremely overpriced with a Silver Oak Cabernet from Alexander valley at 170 dollars. Service was very good at the bar and by our table server. Yet the maître D sat us at a very small table when better choices were available and overall was not very attentive."

  • "Sadly, the Sunday brunch special was sold out at 1:00. The second choice was stuffed French toast which arrived soggy and swimming in syrup. Clearly suited to put one in a diabetic coma. The syrup should have been served on the side. Our 6 guests didn't offer any comments on their orders. Given what was served to me I wasn't going to ask. Our server was attentive."

  • "We are huge carnivores but went to 5Church on a Friday during Lent. Each of us had a different fish meal and absolutely loved each one. Can't wait to go back for the steaks. Wonderful appetizers. Berry mojito was delicious."

  • "Excellent food, service was brisk but not overbearing. We were going to the theater and timing was perfect . The scallops were excellent. Kafka was an appetizer that was a special. Nicely seasoned. Ginger creme brûlée was lovely and velvety. Will definitely go again"

  • "As always, the food was great! A must have is the hummus. Service was a bit slow probably due to the full house. Not all the meals came out at the same time. Waitress was extra nice and did give a free starter to one person (but not the other who waited as well). Still would highly recommend."

  • "I read other reviews before trying 5Church for the first time. I'm so glad I did not take any unfavorable reviews to heart. I absolutely enjoyed my first time dining experience! The food was well prepared and just the right portion. The service was great. I would definitely recommend 5Church and can't wait to go back!!"

  • "Had a great time at 5church for my girlfriends birthday. Manager introduced himself to is after we had some off the menu drink orders. He made the drinks himself they were great. Our waiter was awesome. Food and drinks were great. My gf loves the ambience of 5church. Calls it the angel wings bar. Highly recommend it"

  • "Romaine wedge salad was fantastic, the flavors of the gorgonzola dressing with the tomatoes and bacon was amazing and wonderfully balanced. I had one of the "snacks" the Sezchuan Pork Belly with "spicy cabbage" which tasted like kimchi to me (A very good thing) they could have given me 5 times the portion and I would have been in pork belly heaven. Duck confit, was perfectly tender, the chili-orange marmalade brought a nice sweetness with a hint of heat that balanced out the richness of the dish. My girlfriend had the scallops which were equally as tasty, Restaurant is classy with out being stuffy, manager dropped a card wishing us a happy belated valentines day with a coupon, a very nice gesture for the evening. Love this place."

  • "I have frequented 5Church a number of times in the past, but I will not be back for a while. My boyfriend and I were sat at a random 2 seater table near the front door and bar area. But the time we received our appetizers, there were people from the bar standing all around our table. It took an hour for us to receive our entrees. The manager offered is free dessert due to our wait, but the experience was already ruined. The waitress was unattentive and I had to ask her to bring us bread. Then after we paid, I asked our waitress for a bag for our leftovers, she never came back. After waiting 10 minutes, I had to ask the manger for a bag. I will definitely not be back for a while, if ever."
