  • "We were in Newport during Restaurant Week (April 2014) and chose one of the three course special meals. The clam chowder was delicious with a hint of bacon flavor. Our filets were perfectly cooked and the brownie dessert with salt caramel was out of this world. The waiter was pleasant but a little inattentive for a restaurant this upscale. We had to flag someone down for a water glass refill and we weren't offered coffee but were able to get someone who was clearing the table to help us with that. Other than that it was a great meal in a beautiful, romantic setting."

  • "Came here for my 7th wedding anniversary with my husband. Asked for a private table but did not get one. We were sat downstairs in a noisy room :( Didn't receive our bread for the table until our appetizers came out. Food was very good, would come back just mainly disappointed in the table, with a busy three year old at home We really looked forward to a quieter table for our getaway."

Our waitress looked like she had a long day, while polite he didn't go the extra mile at all, when you are paying these prices and in this type of place you need that. Chowder and meet were great, potato was average. Mac and Cheese really good but came to our table 20 minutes after our meet so we never really had a meal. This place was not worth the wait nor the price"

Restaurant week is always hectic, but this was the first time I had to send my steak back for the improper temperature. Knowing that it has always been outstanding in the past, I'm going to guess this was a fluke and we'll be back."

  • "We (4) hadn't been to Newport in years and decided on 22 Bowen's because of Newport Restaurant Wk and we liked their menu the best. We ALL had wonderful meals (from filet mignon to lamb tenderloin to homemade pasta--delish). It may be par for the course for Newport, but our Grey Goose martinis were $14. (they tasted a bit watered down?!). When we walked in the noise level was off the charts and they were going to seat us right there. It gives you a nice welcoming feel to walk into a bar that full of chatter and fun, but it's another thing to try and converse with 3 other people over dinner. Fortunately, they could seat us on the other side of the bar and it was perfect. Overall, we had a wonderful dining experience!"

  • "During Newport Restaurant Week we dined with two friends, and all of us loved the experience. Three of us chose the Petite Filet Mignon, which was like butter, and delicious to boot! The remaining person selected the Bacon-Wrapped Cod, which was spectacular. The sides were great, the service was prompt, friendly, and professional. The only negative was the noise level: extremely loud. We knew of the quality before we dined there, but it still was a pleasant surprise. We'll be back."

  • "I rarely give a poor review, but this place was so sub par. The service was indifferent, we ordered the pork belly, wedge salad and split the big porterhouse. There was no way the steak was prime beef, presentation was not professional, potatoes were cold, pork belly was not flavorful.. This place is a waste of time and money, there are so many other better restaurants in newport.. Sad to say, because I love castle hill which is owned by the same restaurant group"

  • "My wife and I ate here on a Wednesday night during Restaurant Week. The restaurant was full and the bar scene was very active. The menu selection was very good. We both had the lamb sirloin which was excellent. Both the appetizers and the dessert were very good as well."

  • "We visited for the first time during Restaurant Week in Newport and found the 22 Bowen's had pulled out all the stops! The staff were lovely -- friendly, pleasant and accommodating -- did not hover. The food was perfection. Clam chowder was the best ever, not too heavy. Petite filet melted in the mouth and was served with fingerlings and asparagus, a little reduction -- a generous portion. The deserts at first seemed scaled down, but were sublime, full of flavor. The perfect end. Highly recommend!"

  • "Our visit to Newport for a quick weekend reached a crescendo after our dinner at 22 Bowen's. We had an amazing dinner. The staff was very friendly and our server was wonderful. We ate there to try their restaurant week menu, which I would recommend to anyone, as it is a truly great value, especially for the quality of food you get. Our meals took a while to come out, but we didn't mind; there was no rush to our night and we were happy to just sit and enjoy our evening at a very nice dockside restaurant (the steak was worth the wait!!!). Even though we made no complaints about anything, we still received a visit from the manager, who apologised for any wait or inconvenience and compd our bottle of wine! We will come back again!"

While the filet mignon was good other items, courses and accompaniments were unimpressive. The service was mediocre and the availability of moderately priced wines was severely limited. Altogether it was a very disappointing experience that would not encourage me to return - even during restaurant week!"

  • "The food was fine with exception to the steak. Given this was a steakhouse, that was disappointing. My husband ordered the delmonico and I ordered the ribeye. Both was charred so significantly on the outside, that I felt like I was eating flecks off the grill! Otherwise the food was outstanding. The potatoes lyonnaise was fab! We highly recommend the pistachio gelato. It was a wonderful end to the meal. The wine list was extensive. We were delighted to find a wine we drank on our honeymoon years ago. Unfortunately 4 children later doesn't allow for the $200 price tag."

  • "Had a fantastic dinner. Everything was delicious, and our server, Fabio, was a great guy. Had the Kale salad, which my fiancee and I are going to try and recreate at home, because it was the best Kale salad we've ever had. I had the 14 oz. grass fed ribeye with porcini shallot butter, and it was killer. The steak was tender, juicy and cooked perfectly medium-rare. Will definitely be back when in Newport again."

  • "We were up here for the weekend and found this restaurant to celebrate my husbands and my birthdays..I'm very happy I did.. Great choice !!!! Our server Alex, was outstanding... She was very sweet and knowledgable regarding wines and food choices... I have a sever fish allergy and with each course the manager who server our food..did address my allergy...that is huge for me... The food was very very delicious..I had the chopped kale salad..YUM...and the pork chop which was about 4" thick.. I'm from the old school " no pinkish pork so I ordered it well..and it was still juicy. Even though it was raining very heavy out this restaurant was packed..and they validated our parking ..a winner all around .."

  • "It was off season in Newport on a Sunday night so a quiet slow evening meal was expected. However, we got so engrossed in our food, the Navy could have filled the place with noisy sailors and we wouldn't have noticed. Yes it is pricey, but the quality & quantity were worth every cent. Imagine a lobster 'cocktail' that winds up being a WHOLE chilled lobster! Our waitress was wonderful as well. Patient, friendly, knowledgable - and when we asked if she could weedle the preparation method for the yams on my scallops, she brought the chef to our table to expound on it! He was a gem as well and added to our enjoyment."

  • "It was My girlfriend and I's 1 year anniversary. We decided to make resvervations at 22 Bowens because of family and friend reviews who had been there before. We went on the real St. Patricks day (monday) and it was quiet and we pretty much had the whole place to ourseleves. We made resvervations for 6pm and showed up early (5:30pm). They sat us immediately and Manny was our server. This guy knows customer service!!! I Would recommend Manny to anyone and when WE DO go back i will ask for Manny again. He gave us time but also made our experience something to remember. Even while that time between Apps and dinner he would be at the table just talking with us, pretty much about anything. Great experience great service !!!!!!!"

  • "When we showed up for lunch (with reservations), the restaurant was nearly empty. Of all the places to seat me and my husband, the hostess put us at a tiny table RIGHT NEXT to a table with a family with young kids. Don't get me wrong. We had a child once (grown now), and the family there was perfectly fine. In a full restaurant, it wouldn't have mattered. But it was empty, so why did she seat us practically on top of the family? There were other tables available in the same general area. It was ridiculous to be cramped, so we ended up just moving to the bar, which was much better. Cocktails were great. Fried calamari was delicious. The salmon dish was okay - nothing special. Went to another restaurant for Irish Coffee/dessert."

  • "This is a lovely restaurant with an excellent view and wonderful ambience. The wine list is quite impressive as was our server, Alex, who was able to help us pick the right bottle after we had narrowed it down to 3 very fine choices. Food was very good, fit for foodies and the pace was European. We were able to savor, linger, and enjoy, all of which made for a most lovely evening. I would highly recommend Bowens and will return when I am back in the area."

  • "Arrived early to meet a business client and waited at the bar, where I was greeted by a woman who could offer no more than a grunt while she set the bar up...I was obviously in her way as she provided zero service or warm hospitality...an aloof snob. Once seated, our food service was MUCH better, saving a star in my review, but I had a bad taste in my mouth by now. Speaking of bad taste, the 12 oz sirloin was coated with some type of seasoning crust that looked and tasted like burnt grill scrapings. It was also overcooked by two levels. I ordered MR and it came out MW. Creamed spinach was bland and watery. Bread was stale and leftover from the day prior. Cod cake appetizer was good but not going to save the evening."
