A word from 20nine Restaurant & Wine Bar
This urban wine inspired restaurant is located in the heart of San Antonio just 5 miles north of the River walk, and minutes south of the airport. Highway 29 that runs through Napa Valley inspired the restaurant’s name. The oversized patio with water fountain creates the perfect atmosphere to enjoy wine and appetizers or a four-course dinner. The bar and lounge area offers a trendy, stylish, urban setting for serious wine drinkers to sit back and enjoy a “Road Trip”. All road trips arrive with “wine itineraries” (tasting notes) for the “traveler” to refer to as they are sipping each glass. We specialize in wine country cuisine.   • "Right from the get go it just didn't feel "put together" well. We were seated immediately, but it was right next to the front door. Whoever designed the place, missed. If they considered moving the bar to where the door is it may give the restaurant a better feel. The music was also out of place. Odd mix of 90's to early 2000's top 40 - didn't go. The descriptions on the menu sound wonderful, but the food left a lot to be desired. The sausage on the sausage and peppers plate was undercooked. The service was a bright spot. The waitress was attentive. She was busy, but other staff still checked on us regularly. Good wine list. Try it if you'd like, but don't expect much. Food and ambience not worth it..."

  • "I booked this restaurant for my wife's 29th birthday dinner (table for 2). As directed via their website, I made the reservation online for 7:00 PM. When my wife and I arrived (right at 7:00), we were directed to a very small table against a wall. My view at this particular table was of the bathroom corridor (particularly of the men's room door). We promptly requested a different table and were moved several tables down to another small table against another wall about 2 feet from another couple. If we had stayed put, our dining experience would resembled that of an airline. Our next table was toward the front of the restaurant, but the environment and food was disappointing-Overpriced and not accommodating of reservations."

  • "Great ambience A huge wine selection, many hard to find wines. A bit pricy at 2+ over retail, at least CO retail. Nice sets of flights with 2oz pours. Also if you ask, they have ports and dessert wines by the glass, again a nice selection. I had a duck confit salad for an entre. The duck confit was dry, which means they removed all the duck fat after cooking it. Very good for my heart, not as good for the taste buds. Lots of duck on top of a large spring greens salad with a light vinagrette. Had room for dessert with a dessert wine. Very nice blackberry cobler with an Italian dessert white wine. My wife had baked chicken breast with a crushed seed and sun dried tomato crust; very moist and tender. Had one of the best bread puddings ever."

  • "The food was just fantastic. I loved the baked brie and wine-braised short ribs. My dining partners loved the shrimp pot pie and duck breast. They have a great happy hour special. Loved the sweet endings wine tour! Nice ambiance. My only complaint is that the waitress was very unfriendly. She had no sense of humor and was not very nice. But everything else was great and we plan to go back!"

  • "The sign outside wasn't lit in the evening. To make matters worse the hostess wgi answered the phone was dingy and couldn't give us the proper location of where she works?! The service was poor/fair and the food was bland and skimpy. We will not be going back. It might be somewhere to stop by for an alcoholic beverage?"

  • "My boyfriend and I wanted to have a nice date night and came across 20nine Restaurant and Bar and can honestly say it was exceptional. We had an amazing server, Jessica (props to her!) and wonderful food. We enjoyed the atmosphere as well. I highly recommend the dishes we had - The Tenderloin Medallions, medium rare of course, and the duck. We also were blown away with the Brie for an appetizer. We enjoyed a great bottle of Chianti as well. Jessica was such a great server and we never had to ask for anything, it was beyond perfect. Thank you for providing us with a wonderful evening."

  • "Beginning of a wonderful weekend! Started at 20Nine with my husband, sister and her husband. The ambiance was great! The wine was spot on and the food was fabulous! The variety of food selection was surprising and yet everything was very good. The braised short ribs were fall apart amazing, stroganoff was superb and the shrimp pot pie, well, was gigantic and yummy!!! Hats off to the chef(s) at 20Nine! We had a great evening!!!"

  • "We were impressed with the multiple wine selection and grateful that our server let us sample 3 different types of wine to find the one we were pleased with. We wanted a Beringer White Zinfandel, but they didn't have that. So ended up (after the sampling) settling for the Sorraco (of the Moscato family). Great choice. I'll order that again."

  • "This place blows. Directions to find the restaurant were poor at best. I made reservations in advance and when we arrived were seated near the entrance that appeared to be the waiting-to-be seated area and there were many empty tables and booths. It wasn't until a couple of days before we arrived that we were informed that the regular menu would not be available. I recommend you spend your money somewhere else."

  • "We couldn't get a reservation earlier than 9PM, however we figured we would wait in the bar and enjoy a glass of wine. We showed up at 8PM and the place had plenty of tables, I informed them we were quite early and the hostess informed us they had tables available. The dining area was very dimly lit almost couldn't read the menu and it was very cold, gentleman next to us stated he was glad to be leaving now he could warm up outside. We ordered the wedge salads, a few minutes later our server informed us sorry we our out of wedge salads??? The food at best was satisfactory."

  • "Our food was ok nothing special. The only good thing about this place is the wine list. Our visit here felt soooo rushed. The minute we finished one entree, there was someone already there with the next one. This was a 4 course meal so it's like we didn't have time to breathe before our next entree was placed in front of us. It's like they wanted us to eat and get out so they could seat the next guest. The manager kept walking by our table which made me feel like he was hurrying us up We had finished our meal but were still sipping on our wine. Our reservation was at 7:00 pm and we got our check at 7:38 pm! FOR A 4 COURSE MEAL!! I know it was Valentine's Day but that was just ridiculous!"

  • "Pros - Our server was awesome. Ambience was ok. Really dark place and quiet place. The filet was very tender and good . They have a pretty good wine menu. Cons - The lobster bisk tasted burnt.The shroom sauce poured over steak was good, but came out with quite a bit if it soiled into my lobster Macncheese side, which didn't go well with one another. I reserved on open table app, and latest availability was 4:00. 30 min later a girl called to say they're requiring my credit card info over the phone so they can charge $50 if I cancel before V-Day. I didn't like doing that. I asked her if there was a later availability, and she said no. We left at 5:30 and there were quite a few tables still open and that were never sat while we were there."

  • "20nine was highly recommended by a friend of mine so my husband and I were excited to give it a try on Valentine's day! The wine road trip was great but that was the highlight of the evening. The lobster bisque was burnt and we could not eat it. The steak was overcooked and tasted like it was cooked on a grill that had not been cleaned. The dessert was delicious and the service was all right. 20nine Restaurant & Wine Bar would be a great place to go try wine but not to eat! Overall I would not recommend this place."

  • "The place is small, intimate and has a good vibe. I had a hard time choosing something from the menu because I thought that it wasn't very extensive. I took a chance on the Lobster macaroni and cheese and my husband had the shrimp pot pie. We didn't have high expectations (I don't know why). We also shared the wedge salad which was fantastic. Our meals looked great but the taste was out of this world! I'm now ruined for life on macaroni and cheese! The serve was top notch. Thank you Jennifer for making our visit special. Several servers helped us out as well. This is now on our go to list!"

  • "This past Saturday, we chose to celebrate a birthday there with an 8:00 PM reservation for six. While patiently waiting for our table, we ordered 5 glasses of wine at the bar (from Chelsea). Four glasses of Trilogy Merlot and a glass of Cliff Lede Cabernet. What I did not appreciate was being charged $15 per glass for the Trilogy Merlot when you sell it for $40 per bottle. As repeat customers and promoters of your wine bar, it would have been refreshing to have Chelsea inform us that it would be less expensive to charge me for the bottle than for four glasses. It's just good customer service and had she done that, we probably would have rolled the savings into her tip."

Manny is the best server and takes the time to get to know you and your likes so he can help you in your food journey. They do a great job of setting our expectations and catering to your desires (we like goat cheese but not too much). We love this place and will always be back for more!"

  • "Food was above average, but our server was new and was quite slow. I suspect that once she gets the hang of things she will do better but it made our evening a little drawn out. Especially since we were on the road (from Houston) and traveling thru town (headed to Kerrville). Wine was quite a bit higher priced than I typically see, and I saw some with which I was familiar and have purchased elsewhere, albeit in Houston. Food prices seemed reasonable for what we were served. I had the shrimp pot pie, which I thought was wonderful, and SWMBO had the beef ribs, which seemed slightly overcooked, but were still well seasoned and very tasty."

  • "Fixed 4-course NYE dinner menu. Wasn't impressed by the dinner it self, was lack-luster for the price. The server was great but most everyone else was un-friendly. We reserved a table 1-2 weeks in advance. We walked in about 5 minutes to the reservation time and were asked to wait. As they attempted to sit us at a bar to table, we declined the table & directed to wait at the bar area near the serving station. Unsure why those were the seats we were led to, but we did feel as if we were in the way of the servers and runners. When we got seated, at a table that was not occupied to begin with, we were to the right-of-the-door where the cold wind kept blowing up my wife's dress. I was to the point of walking out, but my wife asked me not"

  • "This is my wife's favorite restaurant. Every time we have been there everything had been superb. But for some reason, the waiter we had, which we have had before, was ignoring me when I kept requesting anything. He would just walk away after I started speaking. Did this 5 times to me, and I can tell you it was very infuriating. He has waited on us before and was amazing, but this time he was disrespectful, and rude. Out of all the many times we have eaten here, this has been the only unpleasant visit. And I hope this does not become a pattern."
