  • "On the spur of the moment we decided to go to Walley's on Sunday evening. We arrived just at dusk and had a beautiful show of waterfowl flying in to rest f or the night in the surrounding wetlands. Besides enjoying that show, we had very good dinners. The duck breast was cooked perfectly, the chicken skewers were excellent. Service was very attentive."

  • "The food was excellent, nice diverse menu. High end choices, well prepared. We had 10 for dinner. A round table would have been much more conducive to conversation and an intimate evening. The service was mediocre. They were not busy and we had to search out staff to get drinks. The ambiance is beautiful and the outdoor fire put was great for after dinner. For a $600 meal I was not wowed.... I wish someone would nail it in this area. It would be great to have something reliable."

  • "When we want a nice, relaxing meal, we can always count on 1862. The staff is so attentive, to the young lady that seats you, to the folks making sure your water glass is full, and the waiter/waitress who are all so pleasant. We highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "The lamb rice soup was excellent. Some had the beet salad and were very impressed. The prime rib was tender and had good flavored. Dessert was a little late in coming out, but tables were filling up. We heard the chef was leaving."

  • "I ordered the soup dejour lobster bisque. When I received it I was leery. it looked nothing like any lobster bisque I've ever eaten. It was brown, not creamy like I would expect. I tasted it & it had no lobster & tasted burnt. I would never describe it as lobster bisque, but just thought it was their interpretation & left it alone. Then the couple next to me received the lobster bisque & it actually looked like I expected. I was annoyed and still curious as to what I recieved. I didn't end up saying anything because my steak totally made up for it. I got the bleu cheese crusted sirloin & it was perfection. My husband's steak was equally delicious. His only complaint was he ordered a Caesar salad with no anchovies & it had anchovies."

  • "We were seated immediately upon arrival into a very nice and mood-lit dining room. The menu was a four courses and fixed which was great for us. The lobster bisque was a little smokier than we've had at other restaurants, a slight con. The vegetable strudel was wicked good and very filling. For a four course meal a smaller version would have been better for us. The prime rib was outstanding with minimal vegetables/mashed potatoes to get in the way. The chocolate cake and fruit tart were amazing, very rich on both accounts. While the food was excellent our service was unusually slow even for a 'social atmosphere' type of restaurant. We would have liked to have more water refills and quicker courses instead of a 2.5 hr meal."

  • "A quaint hot springs hotel feels like a turn of the century village. The restaurant is warm and inviting with a roaring fireplace to greet you while waiting for your table. The chairs are a bit too low for the tables. The service is excellent and attentive. The food was quite good and served hot. The wine list was extensive. All in all, a very nice evening which was a good break from the S. Lake Tahoe tourist food."

  • "This was the first time we had gone out to eat at a really nice restaurant since moving up to this area and we had high expectations because of the menu. Unfortunately, the menu was the most appetizing portion of the meal. I had the prawns and risotto, the prawns were O.K., but the risotto was horrible. Very soft (like it was overcooked) and kind of chalky tasting. My jusband's meal was kind of tasteless and the whipped sweet potatoes were like baby food, no texture. Unforunately, I was disappointed in both the meal and the service. The waiter did not seem like he cared if we were there or not. He did not come back to check on our meal or refill our water glassed or even ask if we wanted more wine. Overall, very disappointing."

  • "We started with the foie gras with chocolate pannetone and cherry gastric which was awesome. I had the clam chowder which had the most tender clams and nice but not overpowering smoked bacon. My wife had the tuna poke which larger in size than expected and nicely flavored. My wife had no complaints with a classic iceberg lettuce wedge with bleu cheese and bacon as her entree. I had the prosciutto wrapped monkfish on wild mushroom risotto. The fish was firm but tender with rich flavor, the risotto however was bland as could be. For dessert we had the lemon tart, which was just a tad runny for us but tasted fresh and tart. The lemon drops were perfect and large. Likewise the 3 wines by the glass portions I consumed were more than ample."

  • "I used Open Table to search for restaurants in the South Lake Tahoe area. Somehow I ended up 18 miles away at this place. The food was ok, and the view was nice. I'll echo the common complaint about poor service. Bottom line is if you live in Genova, this is likely as good as it gets. If you're staying at Tahoe, you have many better choices nearby."

  • "Unfortunately, we were disappointed in the quality of the food at this interesting spot. The venue is lovely. It was a cold night and we were greeted by a warm fire in the fireplace. We were seated quickly and the service was attentive, providing good suggestions. However, the food was only OK. We tried the rattlesnake arancini appetizer and the rest of the ingredients overshadowed the rattlesnake (although the other ingredients were good). My baby beet salad (one of their specialties) was over dressed. My husband's French onion soup was missing all but a few onions (!). His bison filet, which he ordered "blue" came medium to medium rare. And last but not least, the creme brulee was about 1/4 inch thick...really? OK, but not again."

  • "What a remarkable way to celebrate our 10th anniversary. Aside from being stuffed at the end of our prix fix dinner, this was an amazing experience. Definitely recommend for special occasion celebrations, a romantic night out or even a family reunion. The atmosphere is quiet, the ambience is warm and inviting. The food is incredible. Hope to come again in the future and stay at the resort as well!"

  • "Being local we make it to Wally's a couple of times a year. This time we were there on someone elses gift cards. Everything is always better free. Regardless the food and service didn't dissapoint. We did have our 7 year old grandson with us. Lucky for us (and the staff) he was very well behaved and was treated with respect from all. We have always and will continue to refer and patronize Wally's for their restaurant as well as the hot springs and gazebo for events."

  • "Walleys is only 4 miles from us, being the closest restaurant to us. However, it is expensive and we do like variety when we dine out so we only come here once or twice a year. Our table wasnt ready upon arrival so we waited in the bar which was busy. I think people were dining off the bar menu so maybe we'll have to check that out sometime as a less expensive alternative. Our drinks were just average. The rattlesnake appetizer was outstanding. Spouses french onion soup was a blob of mostly cheese that became stuck to his spoon. My spinach salad was very good. We had antelope and pheasant which were marvelously presented and wouldve been excellent but both were slightly overdone being perfect close to the bone. No room for desert."

The service was friendly and efficient and outstanding. We had a beautiful view of the valley as well. We can't wait to go back!"

  • "I read many reviews of 1862 Walley's, and many spoke of great food, and poor service. The food is indeed great, and beautifully prepared, but even after several years, the service was still poor. We had to ask for a wine list on each of two occasions, service was very slow. They even had the sommelier clearing dishes! There was an extremely noisy party in the restaurant one evening, and other than apologizing to us, I'm not sure that the management asked the noise-makers to calm down."

  • "We are locals, went as a group of five adults to celebrate a birthday. Service at the bar was very poor, we ended up walking away without drinks. For dinner we were seated at a table that was in a corridor, shoved up against a window, facing the view to east. So, a person at each end of the table, then three adults shoved along the long end, jetting out into the corridor. There was barely enough room for people to pass behind the three diners in their chairs, in this hallway. Waiter was going to come back for our drink order but never did and entrees came out before he was back. Overall, bad management and energy flow. Food was OK, people who had steak really enjoyed it, other dishes such as fish and risotto lacked flavor and were dry."

The staff was super friendly and very helpful when we were undecided what to order.
