Zuni Cafe in the Civic Center is still an icon, and it sits firmly at the top of our list of favorite restaurants in this town.
Always a great meal...very consistent quality. A San Francisco institution and we don't have many left...
We ordered the chicken as usual. We filled the prep time with a Caesar Salad, and an order of Shoestring Potateos that carried us through the prep time. The Waiter, on his first day on the job, had previously worked in the wine industry, and made a good wine recomendation.
Zuni, sitting downstairs is always great. It is so dependable. It is an old friend that I love.
it was an actual birthday lunch (we did tell them but no birthday dessert?). food was wonderful as always!
Kitchen's food well executed with perfect seasoning.
The food was only moderately good and it was far too overpriced. I ordered a simple burrata appetizer that tasted fine--not delicious, but fine--and it was double the price that it should have been. My companion ordered a burger that was overcooked on one end and raw on the other. We were also disappointed that they serve complimentary bread and butter that are both cold--why bother? We were visiting from the Northeast and had made a point to visit Zuni, but I will not recommend it.
Top performer with perfect execution using first rate ingredients
Great dinner - chicken and bread salad never disappoints. Liked sitting upstairs.
Great food, excellent service and an experience that says San Francisco.
Went for 40th birthday and wish I would have known to ask for a better table for two (by windows) that allowed for more privacy and intimate/fun experience. Apps, salads and pasta were incredible but pork was so salty and dry that we didn’t even eat. Waiter was kind enough to remove from hill without us asking and offered to make us something else but we passed.
So predictably delicious and a wonderful experience. Every time.
The chicken was delicious as always
Small and loud and not many options plus very expensive
The chicken, which is a long time favorite, was disappointing, lacking its usual flavor and slightly under cooked. The Caesar salad and espresso granite were terrific. The service was excellent.
Fantastic as usual
Perfect. Start to finish. Everything was perfectly done. Delicious.
Get the chicken!!!
Zuni Café always delivers a quality experience, and my most recent meal there was no exception. Friendly staff, comfortable airy space, and delicious food that is elegant without being pretentious.
I have been going to the Zuni since it first opened. It has always been excellent and so very San Francisco. It's a first stop whenever I am taking out-of-town visitors to lunch or dinner.
Absolutely fabulous, as always!
Lovely Mother’s Day brunch. The gem lettuce and beet salad was delicious, quiche was flavorful but could have been served warmer, string fries and Bloody Mary great. Service was outstanding and sunny, tasteful decor. Plan to visit again soon.
My family and I have dined here many times and loved it. However, this time we were not impressed with the service or the food. Our host was rude and seemed very annoyed with us for arriving 5 minutes early, so we waited at the bar where our bar tender was also not friendly. The food aside, from the delicious meatball appetizer, lacked its normal luster. The steak was very fatty and
tough, and the normally delicious chicken was sub par.
We hope the restaurant was just having an off night, but we will be tentative to return any time soon.
Mother’s Day celebration
My friend and I were disappointed with our experience at Zuni. We had to wait about 15 minutes before our table was ready. We stood at the bar and ordered wine there while we waited. The bartender was great. We let him know what kind of wine we liked. He suggested two and let us taste both. Both of them were good. However, once we were seated, the service was really bad. The server was friendly when he did show up but we had to wait a long time for everything...to order, for our check, water refills. In fact, I had to ask for water every time we needed more. We each had the arugula salad and we split a pizza. Both were delicious but it couldn't make up for the bad service. With so many great SF restaurants, I would not recommend going here.
Amazing as Always! Expect No Less!
Always a pleasure. My “go to” in the City. We eat here often, and have never had a bad meal.
Wonderful restaurant. I went at lunch time. I highly recommend it.
The food is good and high quality but it’s a bit expensive for what it is. Simple ingredients prepared well but over priced.
Excellent Service , Fabulous Room,
Way Way to much salt especially after I requested no extra salt otherwise a nice evening.

Wonderful. And, buy the cookbook!
The staff was exceptionally friendly, helpful, and efficient. Attention just when we needed it, not a bit overbearing. Since Zuni is a favorite, we knew to expect wonderful food. The chicken (for two) always makes my mouth water. Why I passed on that while two others in our party shared it, I do not know. But the pork was succulent, and the greens that came with were worthy of second helpings, maybe thirds. It was a special evening made lovelier by a first-rate restaurant. We’re still raving about it.
Great food! Can’t wait to come back.
Always great here.
This SF institution is still one of the best spots in town for dinner. Lively bar scene downstairs but upstairs intimate tables and lovely flower arrangements make for a special evening. The menu has something for everything and the wine list has prices for every budget. My foodie friends and I were so thrilled to see a menu that was far from the ordinary "California cuisine." And then have to enjoy a lovely dinner that was not rushed and was served by an experienced waitstaff made the evening.
Very good—we have been many times over the last twenty years or so and it is also a pleasure. This trip we stuck with classics, roast chicken for two (x2 our party of four and some apps. Great wine off the list, not burgundy I was familiar with.
Great food, great service and great atmosphere
Super fun, great ambiance, delicious food.!
A San Francisco icon that’s as good as it ever was.
I have eaten here for dinner but my husband and I went for brunch one weekday. He was very happy with his breakfast dishes but I got the grilled tuna sandwich which was very underwhelming. The tuna was little in size and overcooked. It was basically two pieces of bread- Very disappointing-next time I would order a salad, or stick with dinner.
