Zuni Cafe in the Civic Center is still an icon, and it sits firmly at the top of our list of favorite restaurants in this town.
Wonderful spot for a mother/daughter dinner! The food was fantastic, as was the service. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience, and will definitely return in the future!
Best Burger around......best Chicken, too. Wish I had a ZUNI CAFE closer to home !!!
We dined on a Friday evening after a show. We hadn't been in a while, but it was the same wonderful Zuni cafe. We had the oysters, caesar salad (still the best in town), the roast chicken, and the lightest dessert we could find (espresso granita.) Service was good; food was great; wine list had interesting selections; same wonderful ambiance. Be warned - it's noisy, but that's part of its charm. Just love the fact that the Zuni Cafe continues on after all these years.
Best meal I’ve ever had in SF. And, even better service!
Met some wonderful people from San Francisco and had the signature chicken dish
Enjoyed this place while visiting San Francisco. Great duck Great nettles.
The noise level has gone beyond "energetic" to something approaching "deafening", a real shame for a restaurant with great food and excellent service. If you're looking for a quiet meal and conversation, go elsewhere.
Excellent food and service!!
Zuni's is our go to spot for a very nice business lunch with clients. The food is always exceptional and the service is always great. Meals are prepared simple but sophisticated with the menu options always changing. This place was made for those who enjoy exceptional food.
Zuni is a great San Francisco restaurant. The wait staff is very professional. The food is excellent and consistent. The menu changes daily to respond to the seasonal availability of ingredients. So much fun.
Food was nasty and none of your staff had a smile on their faces until they came to the table. It was a negative vibe with food that was horrible. I used to love going here and now will never go again. Wine pours are small. Portions are small and low quality cuts. Chicken was bland. Time to rethink Zuni
The food was excellent and the service first rate!
We were just in the city for the day and booked Zuni from the reviews. It did not disappoint. The roast chicken and bread salad was fantastic. One person in our group has food allergies and the waiter knew exactly what dishes would be safe for her to eat.
I was SUPER excited about the chicken & found it under seasoned & under COOKED (thankfully I didn’t get to declare sick...yet). I would not recommend making an effort to come to ZUNI. There are a ton of restaurants that are WAY more worthy!! Sat no to Zuni!!
The first time I ate at Zuni was for Saturday lunch, and it was an amazing meal and an all-around great experience. I think I had the best pizza of my life at Zuni! When I was there for a second time for Saturday night dinner, I was disappointed, and it was worse because I brought a guest who had just one night to dine in SF, and I had really talked Zuni up.
The service was not very attentive. For example, they brought bread out, but no small dishes on which to put it on, so we just sat around waiting forever, and in the end I just took a slice and buttered it on the table, leaving crumbles everywhere. Not very important in the grand scheme of things, but it did set ta specific tone.
The food was just very... simple/basic, and I don't mean that in a good way. It felt like I had duck in broth, and my friend had fish in broth. The portions were small, and there was no spectacular taste in any of the appetizers, mains, or desserts that we had. The food was perfectly acceptable, don't get me wrong, but I did not think it was great value for money, and it definitely lacked the wow! factor that I was expecting from Zuni.
It was a lovely day so we sat outside but we did feel a bit forgotten about. Food was yummy but felt a bit overpriced. Glad I went and experienced it but not rushing to go back or recommend unless someone is specifically looking for a roast chicken.
Love this iconic SF institution
Outstanding food. Pricey but worth it for a special occasion. High quality ingredients and very fresh. Perhaps not the warmest staff I've encountered but they were very professional and responsive to our requests. Nice atmosphere with an exposed brick interior and large windows that gaze upon Market Street and its melange of interesting characters. Seating upstairs and on main level. I will be back to try more of their menu.
Fabulous food and excellent service. The chicken and bread salad is a classic. Not inexpensive but worth it for a special occation.
The chicken is worth the wait!
I lived in the Bay Area for 8 years and now I live in LA. I travel to San Francisco often and without fail I never miss a chance to have the special chicken. The Caesar Salad is classic and both are not to be missed. Thank you Zuni!
I brought my cousin who was up for the day from Los Angeles to attend a special function later in the night. He is an actor who has eaten food all over the world; his second home is Manhattan; and he said his pasta dish with lamb was the best he's ever had. I ate the swordfish, recommended by our server. Outstanding. Everyone was so nice. I haven't been here in years, and usually eat in my neighborhood along the 20 Street corridor, but it was worth it to make the trek over to Market Street. Thank you for a beautiful late lunch/early dinner.
brought friends visiting from out of town and they were out of half the things on the menu .... pretty disappointing.
The food is always amazing. My only issue is the seating. The arrangements are way to close togther.
Delicious food, well curated wine list!
This place was so fun. We had an amazing waiter who took the time to help us with some San Francisco tips! The chicken was worth the wait and the ambiance and view of the kitchen from our table was very cool!
Zuni has always been a favorite of ours, so we picked it for a joint birthday and wedding anniversary celebration for 4.
Unfortunately the wonderful chicken had lost it’s mojo. It seemed unseasoned with a small sampling of the wonderful bed of bread.
Our appetizers and other dishes were ok, but nothing special.
Our server seemed inexperienced.
Overall, it now seemed overpriced for the food quality and service.
We probably won’t return. Sigh.
Food was great! A bit disappointed with the service though. Overall, my friend and I enjoyed our experience. We’ll come back for the food.
Whenever I'm in the Bay Area it's a must stop for me since 1988. I personally enjoy the many varieties of fresh oysters and the burger & shoestring ff. Top notch wines by the glass too.
Cannot wait to return next time in SF.
Thank you for the fabulous service as always!
The best thing about Zuni is the service! Waitstaff is friendly and enthusiastic without being familiar. Food was OK, not too daring and well prepared and presented, but I'm vegetarian and options were limited. Desserts were outstanding, especially the Gateau Victoria.
It was wonderful. Super nice bartenders. I can't believe I had not eaten there in so many years. Boy do they sell a lot of chicken!!! Now I know why.
A must visit for anyone visiting San Francisco
Zuni Cafe always is amazing, and rightly won this year's James Beard award for Outstanding Service - the food, service, and atmosphere all contribute to a consistently stellar experience.
A must go to every time I’m in town. Thanks for a wonderful time!
This was our first visit to Zuni and we enjoyed it very much- love the building and the ambiance. I had gone with the intention of ordering the chicken, but didn't realize it took and hour. Hopefully we can return and order the chicken as soon as we walk in. The pork chop and polenta was wonderful.
My husband and I had gone to celebrate his birthday and I was very much impressed with the location. The space is ample and loved the seating arrangements. We were seated next to kitchen and what impressed me the most was the kitchen was so clean and smokeless. We ordered few cocktails which were worth it and roasted chicken for two. It takes exactly 60 mins for them to cook, but it was worth the wait. For desserts, we ordered their Gâteau Victoire and Espresso Granita, and may I say, it was finger-licking. Overall, we had an amazing experience.
My second visit as a tourist for weekend and every bit as good as before. Lovely ambience and great menu
Our first dinner back at Zuni in over 5 years and it was as amazing as we remember!! Zuni remains the one SFCA restaurant we ALWAYS dine at when visiting!!
Chicken was a disappointment. Not crispy and skin was very thick. No flavor. Celebrating a b-day. Was charged for the dessert.
