Even without a reservation, bar tables are available on a first come, first served basis and the full menu is available. The bar also serves traditional cocktails made with top-shelf ingredients; refreshments at its best in an environment of effortless hospitality. Whether you dine early or prefer to dine after theater, Zuni is a welcoming haven.
What Insiders Are Saying
Zuni Cafe in the Civic Center is still an icon, and it sits firmly at the top of our list of favorite restaurants in this town.
Our unfortunate server was too busy; appeared to have too many tables. Service was very slow, the roast chicken took well over an hour. Our group of four was at our table for almost three hours, for lunch!
Loved our waitress and ambiance is always classy
Still a classic! The roast chicken does not disappoint.
One of our fave restaurants, indeed - our server, Alex, (who’s been our server before) is top notch and added to our amazing experience.
Thank you so much - we love Zuni!
My only suggestion is to start serving dinner at 5:30...Hamilton started at 7 so it was rushed.... otherwise, Fantastic!!
We expect excellence at Zuni
In every regard
And of course, everything was excellent
Food was incredible
As always, the food was superb and the staff was attentive without being overbearing. Highly recommended.
Overrated in my view. I was alone and in combination with me not being very hungry and not ordering a lot of fancy food, I felt the service was annoyed - I just didn’t feel welcome at all! Food was ok but also nothing very special!
We got the famous rotisserie chicken. It was good but not amazing. The bread salad that came with it was much more bread than salad.
This is one of two of my absolute favorite restaurants in San Francisco and I have been coming here for
over 30 years and Zuni is consistant in execellent food, great service and lovely atmosphere. Their roasted chicken is the best in the world and my favorite dish.
Very nice restaurant, the dinner was amazing, the winelist is good with very reasonnable prices.
I really recommand this place and would like to go again.
Always great food and service at Zuni. Lamb was especially enjoyable this time.
If I could eat here every night, I would. It feels like home in San Francisco.
Zuni Cafe is crowded and the tables are very close together. However, the food and service is exceptional. We had the famous roasted chicken. Though you have to wait an hour after ordering, it is worth it! We had an incredibly delicious meal and paired it with a beautiful wine from the Northern Rhone. Nice wine list too.
Food was good though the stuffing that came with the chicken had too much vinegar on it. Greens on the chicken seem unnecessary.
Nothing like the shoestring fries and chicken w/salad ~ definitely something to crave!
Wonderful - as always. Late lunch before going to see Hamilton. Burgers remain the very best anywhere. The freshest oysters anywhete in the city. Wonderful service. A great wine recommendation. And - unique to Zuni - you can strike up conversations and friendships with those dining around you. The absolutely perfect San Francisco dining experience.
It’s one of my favorite places in SF. The waiters were tired so late in the evening.
Our first time to Zuni was way way back. When it was A-Hole-In-The-Wall. The entrance was on Market. We had a Buy One Entree Get One Free. Yes, that far back, close to 40 years ago I would guess. It's had it's Ups & Downs over the years and we are still loyal. Our last meal was delicious. Our only BONE is the 6% charge for employee benefits. We are for paid sick leave, vacation pay, maternity pay and heath care for all of the employees but just give it to them and charge us accordingly with an increase in the menu prices. We don't understand why they do this. It's kinda devious.
The kale salad, burger, duck all perfect! Xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
This an overhiped restaurant with just ordinary food. My Husband and I eat there every year or so just to remind ourselves that there are better restaurants in the Hayes Valley. We did not eat the noted chicken as we have in the past. I made a better version.
Was our first time at Zuni and now it’s favorite place in San Francisco! Thank you Guys - You are amazing!
Zuni Cafe is always a good experience, especially the service. We had the marinated anchovies appetizer, which were good but really overpriced - I think there were 5 or 6 slivers of anchovies. The roasted beet and kale salad was quite good. The Toulouse sausage was also very good. The chanterelle mushroom pizza was too greasy. But overall, we had a lovely lunch and we would go back.
They do everything right here. From the creative menu to the thoughtful, never intrusive service, the place is just perfect.
One of our favorite places to dine in SF. Classic service, fantastic food and a great atmosphere.
Had reservation for 10 pm. We were there 1/2 hour earlier & they seated us without hesitation. Still extraordinaire! “Twelve days” cocktail was sublime on a chilly, rainy night.
First time visitor to Zuni’s And we were thrilled with everything. We had expected a long wait as we got to the restaurant earlier than our reservation time hoping for an earlier time slot opening up. We were able to be seated and served in the bar area almost immediately. The food was very good and the service was as well. I would certainly return again.
Amazing restaurant. Perfect atmosphere for any occasion!
Delicious cozy spot!
The lamb was very tough.
The bucatini was disappointing, lacked flavor
Three of us ordered the sea bass/faro/dish. One piece was no more than four/five ounces while the others were almost double in size. For $33, absolutely unacceptable.
Although Zuni's location is attractive since it has close proximity to Opera, Symphony, Civic Center we would not go again. Very high noise level prevented us to carry out on great conversation and although food was delicious we were disappointed in service. When we arrived ( we had a reservation) there were many empty table so we asked for the specific table. Unfortunately we were denied the place and seated in a very small, noisy, crowded room. Upon our leaving that table was still empty even though the server told us it was special reserved table ( obviously it was not true). Food was great - we cannot deny it but it was also very pricey.
We showed up an hour early and they accommodated us anyway. This is probably unheard of at a restaurant as popular as Zuni. Food is classic and delicious. Ambiance is pretty wonderful too. We sat near the wood-burning stove. Would come again and again with family and friends.
Just awesome. Food amazing, and service matched it.
Was a recommendation that did not disappoint. Went for lunch. Was seated at a very nice window table, which allowed watching the trolley cars go by while eating. Food was excellent (though small portions), service was with a smile throughout. Would go back and try something else on the menu for sure.
Excellent ingredients. Very simple dishes. Not creative enough for my tastes. Beautiful restaurant with many small dining rooms on two levels.
Fabulous. Zuni is at the top of their game.
My Family loves Zuni. The food, drink and vibe is a winning combo!
