Zuni Cafe Ratings and Reviews
Love Zuni and always have had a great meal. This time the main course was awful. The meat was described by the waiter as slow cooked similar to Beef burgenon, and what was served was dry as a bone, sliced thin,no sauce ; it was worse than high school cafeteria "beef". Everything else was great , and they didn't charge for the "beef" dinner, which I did not ask to be comped for.
Will return , first time to have a bad meal here
The chicken was delicious! We were warned how long it would take, so got a few oysters to start. It was the last night of our honeymoon, so I was hooong for a little treat, but I should have arranged for ahead of time. Then bread salad and greens make the chicken dish! Would definitely go back.
We may have been the last seating at 9:00 pm, but definitely felt we were rushed. The waiter was friendly and certainly helpful with recommendations. The sommelier's recommendation was spot on as well. The problem seemed to be with the kitchen pushing dishes out too fast. We shared 4 dishes, and the first 2 came separately, with serving implements-- good so far. Then our soup and main arrived together! Very hard to manage on a small table, and why would you want to? The main was a seared tuna, but it was somewhat overlooked, and barely warm, both suggesting it had been cooked and held. Given the restaurant's long standing reputation and price range, this was not what we'd hoped for.
Nancy was great waitress - just enough checking that all was good and not too much.
The wine list is silly expensive so just stick with the local beers. None appear on tap sadly.
Bread was nicely artisinal in style and the butter just perfect and not too salty.
We chose hamburgers and they were sumptious.
Overall the noise level is bit high even at lunch.
they need a checkin sign -we had to ask and didnt know to go till area at one end of the place.
I wont rush back but I wont not recommend the place.
Great for special treats and this visit was one of those.
If you told me my favorite part of the meal would be the croutons on the caesar (or "cracktons" as the waiter so eloquently called them!), I would have said you were silly. But they WERE! They were so good we had to order a second helping. Just part of a delicious and fabulously served meal.
Good food. Nice server.
Table was small, probably shouldn’t put 3 people at tables for 2. we were really crammed in there next to other people. Also All 3 of us got several mosquito or flea bite on our ankles. Generally I think it’s a good spot if you can get a better table and don’t mind bugs.
