This James Beard Award winning restaurant with a clientele as diverse as San Francisco opened in 1979. A vibrant Parisian-style standing-only copper bar greets you as you enter on Rose Alley. Zuni's menu changes daily with dishes inspired by traditional Italian and French recipes. Nearly all of the produce, meat, and fish served at Zuni is farmed and harvested in a sustainable manner.

Even without a reservation, bar tables are available on a first come, first served basis and the full menu is available. The bar also serves traditional cocktails made with top-shelf ingredients; refreshments at its best in an environment of effortless hospitality. Whether you dine early or prefer to dine after theater, Zuni is a welcoming haven.

I adore Zuni and go every year as a birthday treat. Both food and service are impeccable, and I always feel most delightfully cared for. Their gateau victoire is absolutely worth the hype, and makes a perfect birthday cake. I have loved the roast chicken and bread salad (order ahead), the totally indulgent caesar salad, and the tower of light and crunchy shoestring potatoes, but what I always order is succulent fresh oysters and a comforting bowl of warm polenta with mascarpone. On this visit, the tuna confit was a knockout. Thanks, Zuni, for always making my day special!

A visit to San Francisco would not be complete without dinner at Zuni Cafe. The restaurant is cozy and comfortable. The roast chicken with bread salad is outstanding and worth the wait! The food is fresh and farm to fork. We also love the orange salad and shoestring fries.

What happened to Zuni? The Zuni Caesar was inedible and took an hour to get to us.
While we were waiting we were brought someone else's drinks.
After waiting an hour for the salad, we flagged down another waiter as ours never came back. When she did come back, she had to ask what we ordered, "sorry, I have doctor's handwriting, can you tell me what you ordered again." I'm glad she is a waitress and not a doctor.

Both the pizza and steelhead were underwhelming.

Still going strong. Zuni’s Chicken for 2 is unlike any other chicken. It is extremely juicy and tops a bed of Thanksgiving worthy bread moistened by the drippings. I definitely recommend a trip to Zuni Cafe!

I can't say enough about the wonderful experience we had. The food, the wait staff, the ambiance, the other diners...it was all amazing. We had the split pea soup, orange scones with fig jam, Caesar Salad, and hamburgers. We will definitely go back. The gentlemen seated next to us, Jordan and Stephen, over heard that it was my mother's birthday and they had a piece of chocolate cake sent to her. This was a wonderful way to spend her 88th birthday.
