Zuma Japanese Restaurant - Miami Ratings and Reviews
The food is good here but the pricing is absurd. The most annoying thing about this restaurant are that the Chefs in the middle of the dining room give out loud cries when they complete a task. It can come at any moment and it borders on being frightening. I would not recommend this to anyone trying to enjoy their dinner.
Big disappointment. Sushi was not as expected based on some of the reviews. We had a reservation, but when we arrived we were told that we had to be finished by 9PM because there was another reservation. That in my opinion should have been communicated to me when I made the reservation. Knowing that, I would have never booked a reservation with Zuma. Not impressed with this restaurant at all!
We have chosen the premium course which was pretty good but we expected more. Too much mushrooms dishes, it definitely could be better. Beside it, the waiter said the course was about 15 plates, but we counted only 14 and two plates were salad and soup. Even do I recommend this restaurant but if I could give some tip I would say to stay at the menu and your own choices. The courses are too expensive and not worth it!
We had a mixed experience. It was my birthday, and I had always wanted to try Zuma, so I made a reservation. The day before, I got a call to confirm, and the woman told me that she was confirming a reservation in the main dining room and that the pastry chef was advised of a birthday. The food was excellent (we loved the shrimp tempura, eggplant and rolls we had), and the waiter served a very nice dessert with a "Happy Birthday". The wait staff (and there is no shortage of them) was also excellent. The issues we had were elsewhere - when we arrived, we were taken to a table right next to the bar - I indicated that we were supposed to be in the main dining room, and the hostess told us that we were in it. Having never been there before, we didn't know any better and asked for a table further from the bar, which is where we sat - it was not a problem, but after coming home, I read that the restaurant does have a main dining room, so that didn't make me very happy. When we left the restaurant, my husband took the valet ticket to the cashier outside and paid $21 to get our car. I overhead the woman behind us say that she forgot to have her valet ticket stamped. So I went up to the cashier and told her that we had just eaten at the restaurant, so should we have received a discount. She said that yes, it would have been $5 less, but it was too late, because my husband had already paid. I have never been to a restaurant with valet parking that someone (valet attendant, hostess, waiter) doesn't ask you about stamping your ticket. Both issues probably come down to the hostess staff, which is really lacking in competence or perhaps honesty. I felt that it was a shame to have such great food and service, but to conclude we would not return to this restaurant.
I am someone who believes that a couple can feel ripped off for a $50 dinner but have great value at a $400 dinner. It's not the total cost but it's the feeling as to whether you're being suckered and gouged… Zuma definitely left me with a feeling of being overcharged for the privilege of dining in their restaurant. The staff was extremely friendly and knowledgeable and our server Jay was very nice, attentive and not pushy to increase the tab. It took $850 to satiate four of us mostly tapas style. Perhaps we did not order and the most efficient way but we did have a wonderful time and in a fun atmosphere. However, I just didn't leave with the feeling that I need to go back.
