Zula Bistro & Wine Bar Ratings and Reviews
Zula is one of my top dining spots in the city. I am a frequent customer and enjoy myself every visit. This past visit involved a larger party of my girlfriends and we were all very pleased with our experience. The waiter was patient and present often for our numerous martini orders! We have nothing but compliments to the chef(s) because the mussels are divine as well as the flatbreads, salads, and tuna we ordered. Thank you for a great evening!
We really enjoyed the two small plate appetizers-one a special the other a regular menu item and a flatbread. All were excellent. I had a featured wine which was good and a good value, my husband had a mixed drink which was disappointing in value and was in a copper mug which he wasn’t expecting and commented that he didn’t like. The table next to us was close and very loud which made talking difficult sometimes.
Delicious, great location , and atmosphere, quality ingredients with a menu that is well thought out and approachable but sure to have a twist to traditional. Our only challenge was the Table was too small ( 2 top) for the dishes we ordered ! The mussels (French application) were plump and delicious , the sauce on the menu indicates more white wine than the actual dish tasted- but was a cream - can’t go wrong with that! Salmon crudo actually had flavor and seared to perfection.
This was the first time I have eaten here and I can’t wait to come back! Portion sizes are big enough to share. We had the beet salad which was delicious! Two different kinds of mussels and the goat cheese flatbread, all of which were very flavorful. The service was also very good!
The service was great and the ambiance was nice. We been to Zula for wine a few times and had heard great things about the food. Unfortunately, the food was not very good during our visit. All three of us felt that our dishes were over salted. The rest of the flavors did not come through. Not sure if we would give the food another try but still Zula is one of our favorite wine bars.
Valet, while not an employee, was rather clueless and asked for us to pay up front and for a tip as we were parking our own car. No greeting by hostess - she just stared at us. No substitutions on orders, not even a small one like fries instead of polenta. Goat cheese flatbread needed to be dressed up a bit- too bland. Convenient for attending an event at Music Hall.
Zula was awesome as always. They have a good wine selection at a variety of prices. They have smaller plates and larger options. I’m a huge fan of mussels and my friend got the duck. The bread service is necessary with the mussels, I wish it was included. All the food was fantastic. I simply wish there were more room between the tables. I seriously watched at least 4 people hitting things or squeezing out to try to exit their table.
We really enjoyed our dinner at Zula. There were six of us and we were seated quickly on a Saturday night and service was also relatively quick! We order 3 different kinds of mussels, 2 flatbreads and the salmon special and it was all delicious. It's a fun venue - just across the street from Washington Park and a block away from Vine St./OTR.
Pros: tuna tartare is outstanding. Very fresh and bright flavor.
French Style Mussels were phenomenal. Order the $4.00 artisanal bread to soak up the pot licker. Bread is delicious on its own. Chocolate Brownie and a cup of Americano is the perfect ending to a meal there.
Cons: tables are way too close together. Not only do the very skinny waitresses have no room to talk to you any place other than over your shoulder but exiting from the wall seat is a nightmare. No matter how slim you are, you rear end is going to end up on the table next to you as you slide past.
Noise level is very, very loud. Not conducive to any sort of conversation.
Calamari is chewy and sauce that it is in is nondescript. Pass on it.
Dinner at Zula was lovely. The ambiance was perfectly cozy & lively! We noticed several groups dining and in holiday spirit. But also many small tbl siners like ourselves. Got seated at a tbl facing the window w view to the park. Our waitress was nice. We started off we a nice dry Rose and Old Fashioned which my husband really liked and got a 2nd later. Then ordered the New Orleans Mussels- delicious broth with shrimp and andouille sausage bits. They have an ample Mussel selection. Also ordered the Arancini which was creamy goodness. More of a baked texture than a fried.
Servers were cheerful but not attentive, and worse they rushed us bringing food before we finished our cocktails and then bringing both the first and second course together. Totally unsatisfactory!
The food —mussels and salmon —as well as presentation excellent. Salty Carmel creme brûlée very good. But as I knew it would be the noise level nearly deafening.
