Z'Tejas - Bethany Home Ratings and Reviews
Food was good, nothing notable about presentation or taste. Fair price for food /service /location . Most notable was our server. Best I've had in a long time. And definitely the best I've had there. I believe her name was Krystal. She made the evening. Kept everyone's glass full and always had a smile 😆
We came for Mother's Day brunch, so it was a special occasion. We had 2 servers yet neither of them could seem to help us. We were seated at our table for 15 minutes before we were ever greeted and our drink orders taken. They didn't bring our side dishes for all four of our meals, we had to ask several times. They finally brought them at the end of our meal when we were done. Not helpful. We had to wave them down every time we wanted a glass of champagne and kids refills. I understand it's a busy day but they didn't seem short of staff. Very disappointing for a special occasion. I will say the hostess took a family pic and gave it to us at the end of the meal which was a nice touch.
Just delighted that a friend recommended this fabulous restaurant. The food is over-the-top delicious, the restaurant is very attractive and modern and the service is good. The "Street Tacos" with Beef and the Frozen Margarita made with Chambord are to die for!
There really wasn't anything special about the food at all. It was pretty bland with little seasoning. I asked for salsa to liven things up but even it was bland. It was smoky when we got in there and at some point the fire alarm went off and blared for awhile. Our waiter was really very nice though.
Next time I would ask to be seated away from children, unfortunately we were surrounded. Why do waitress ask how are "we"? We is inclusive, which is very pressumptious unless it us determined we are waitress friendly, which we are not! That invades our personal space. Waitresses are not part of the dining party and "we" is too causal for this type of restaurant.
All the dishes were excellent! It was nice and quiet so we could hear each other talk without yelling. I would definitely recommend and go back. A word of caution though on parking. The parking is limited. We ant early so had no problem. I did see that they had complimentary valet parking though.
I told the hostess that I had an Open Table reservation. She asked if my consisted of 2. I told her one. She still brought two menus and service sets to the table. I had to wait five minutes for water. I felt as though the hostess neglected to tell my server I was there as I saw the server come from the bar area and return there throughout my dinner. My server was less than helpful and not attentive. The hostess needs to provide water to customers, especially in a desert location, when the server will be delayed for a few minutes. The male server at the tables surrounding me, I heard him introduce himself as Trevor to those customers, was much more helpful and attentive to his diners.
Food was good, service so so. They didn't bring tortillas that were supposed to come with one of the entrees. Had to ask. They also never brought fruit that was supposed to come with all brunch entrees. We forgot about the fruit & because they took the menus away, we didn't notice it until browsing online menu later at home.
This place was a disappointment, as so many chain-restaurants tend to be. It was essentially staffed by children with no adult supervision. Trouble is, there were not enough children on duty. The wait was insufferable. The food was okay, but this is Phoenix; I can get real Mexican food in many places. I see no reason to return.
My young lady and I went to Z'Tejas before going downtown to the Bette Midler concert. We have been here before, so it means something to have a repeat performance here. The food is excellent, creative, and reasonably-priced. Our server, Brian, deserves five stars for managing to be an excellent source of information and an efficient server, while also not being too obtrusive.
Service was flawless, from the tableside guacamole (recommended) to delivery of the entrees. I recommend this restaurant with no reservations.
We waited at the front door for a couple of minutes without being acknowledged. Server started out great and then disappeared half way during our dinner never to be seen again. Restaurant had 8 tables at 8 on a Saturday night.
Food needs alot of work- barbacoa enchiladas had very little meat and were mushy. Black beans tasted straight from the can without any seasoning, rice tasted out of a box. Tortilla soup was pureed, refried beans- very disappointing.
Very underwhelming experience.
Made a reservation for 4 near a window. Arrived early without the other couple and tried to explain to the hostess 3 times that we had a reservation for 4 near a window. First, she tried to seat us in the back of the restaurant. Then we told her again that we had a reservation near a window. Sat us with only two menus. The restaurant wasn't busy only maybe 1/2 full. The hostess was very scattered. The waiter even apologized for hostess.
Servers left after delivering drinks to the table, not to return for over 15 minutes. There appeared to be involved in some sort employee meeting outside the kitchen, keeping them from attending to their tables. When we were served our food it was not hot ,just barely warm. One of the orders was sent back and when it arrived the potatoes were cold.
The employees were pleasant, just not attentive or prompt.
Also, the AC was on extremely high for so early in the morning, we all had to get jackets from our car.
Z'Tejas is known for excellent food and a great atmosphere. Valentine's Day was a nice day to visit; however, I don't know that they planned on the volume of people, as my husband and I waited 15 minutes without being served, and had to ask the hostess to send someone over. All of this notwithstanding, the food and ambiance were great as per usual.
We made a reservation for 7 pm on Friday, Feb 13. We frequently go here on Friday nights - probably 2-3 x a month. I thought it might be busier because of Valentine's Day the next day. I had requested a table by the open window and when we pulled up there was a table open, so I thought it was reserved for us. When we went into the restaurant, the table was taken and there were several people with reservations and no tables available. They tried to seat us at a table off to the side for 2 people, but the reservation was for 4 and there were 2 others joining us. I told them no, that we had requested a table by the window, and it was only then that she actually looked at the reservation. We waited 30-40 minutes for a table. The manager came by and I told him we had a 7 p.m. reservation and were waiting. He stopped and talked with the staff and then told me "one should open up soon". Another 15 minutes went by. By now, the couple who were going to join us decided not to. They had movie tickets and no longer had time to eat.
When we were seated the server did not come over for quite some time. He finally took our drink order, which took forever once again to deliver (just water and iced tea). A while later he came back to take our appetizer order and again it took some time before it was delivered. Every step of the meal was agonizing. One of my fish tacos had very little fish in it-about a nickel-sized piece of fish, yet I couldn't show it to anyone because nobody came by. At this point, the restaurant had cleared out somewhat and they weren't as busy. At the end of the meal I asked for a "to go" container, and once again a wait.
When we left, my companion stated that "if he never had to return to that restaurant again he would be happy" and a few other expletives I won't repeat.
We loved this restaurant since they opened but they have definitely gone downhill. And they must have greater turnover because we used to have the same waiters yet no longer do.
Met a friend there for Christmas as we had a gift card. Glad we had it because the food wasn't worth the prices by a LONG shot. Nothing met our expectations. The chicken fajitas were merely a stock chicken breast sliced up on a bed of greasy grilled onions and peppers with way too much garlic on top. The beans were tepid and should not have been served, the coffee was certainly not premium and seemed to be cheap restaurant blend coffee. My wife was disappointed as all of her food was too spicy with nothing available to relieve the heat (and she enjoys hot food!) Our friend had the gelatinous soup discussed in earlier posts. Sorry to say this restaurant is occupying prime space in my neighborhood that could be occupied my a much better restaurant. Won't go back
Three of us went to this location on Sunday for brunch. The restaurant was not too busy. It seems the service at this location is better when it's busy as opposed to when it's not. We consistently waited for drink refills. Our server was a younger blonde girl, I assume she was new as she appeared flustered and didn't seem very educated on the menu offerings. We ordered appetizers and brunch. I mentioned to her that none of us got the fruit that was supposed to come with our meals. She told us that the kitchen was very chaotic & backed up, they don't have time to cut the fruit. She never offered to bring us the fruit, nor did she offer a substitute. Although we live closer to this location, we will stick to the Gateway location.
Z'Tejas is relatively new to our neighborhood--I had been to the PV location years ago and was not impressed. We went for Restaurant Week to retry and found it quite a bit better. Shrimp butterfly pasta dish was good; chile rellano was excellent--had happy hour wine beforehand and, as it was a Friday, shared a table with several people. Great place to meet old and new friends, and service was quick and friendly.
Had dinner here on a week-end night. Food and service were terrific; however, the temperature at our table was freezing! The AC unit vents are over the dining tables which makes for not only un-comfortable body temps but it also cools the food. We had lunch here awhile back and sat in a different area and again the same problem. We brought it to the attention of our server in hopes the management may be able to have the system reviewed. May stick with their other location for the time being.
