Zona Rosa Ratings and Reviews
They told me that they didn't have my reservation because Zona Rosa is no longer using open table. I had to grab a seat outside for a chilly lunch. They need to close the loop with the open table folks, because according to the restaurant, open table reservations are no longer in their system.
I love going to Zona Rosa. The food is unique and very tasty. The staff is friendly and helpful. It's rare to find a restaurant that has such and interesting menu with food that is delicious. I'm always excited to try the next item on the menu. Worth the few extra dollars. So far my favorite dish is the salmon tacos.
A really different Mexican menu with innovative dishes that are bursting with flavor. Every dish was perfectly prepared. My favorites were the Aguacate Frito, panko fried avocado sections with a chipotle dip; the blue corn enchiladas with sweet potatoes and poblano; and the dessert of pumpkin donut holes with Horchata ice cream. I can hardly wait to go back and I will probably have more favorites because everything we tasted was so good.
The service was very friendly and helpful and made the evening perfect.
Our second time at Zona Rosa & the food is just excellent. My husband really enjoyed the carnitas & I enjoyed the chimichirri carne asada tacos. Everything is fresh and very tasty. The drinks are very good as well. Our server was nice & genuinely wanted us to enjoy our visit. The place is very tiny and can get a little cold with the door opening and closing, so bring along a sweater. Also, the place is always busy, so definitely make a reservation & have a little patience, as there is only one server, but it is absolutely worth the visit. We will definitely return again soon. In fact, we can't wait to enjoy a meal there again.
Excellent spin on Mexican cuisine - just delicious. I have been here several times and always loved the unique ingredients that sound odd together, but never disappoint!
We started with the jalapeño margaritas and the guacamole topped with pistachios and bacon. These have to be the best margaritas period. I would come just for these!
The chips and guac were ridiculously crunchy, creamy and salty.
I usually have tacos, but this time I asked the waitress to suggest their yummiest item - she said the Carnitas plate. It was seasoned perfectly and it looked fantastic. I didn't give this 5 stars for food because the meat was quite tough, otherwise it was all delicious!
Zona Rosa was a fantastic experience. From the service to the quaint charm! The food was so authentic, yet fit to be called fine dining. I can't wait to go back to Zona Rosa! My husand and I shares 6 dishes and each one of them was incredible! What a great find! Thank you open table! Without you I would have never have known about this perfect downtown restaurant!
This restaurant is very small, has a lot of cool character, but is very small. Because of that, the tables are all extremely close togethor and it can get very loud inside. There are no tables here where 2 people can dine without basically being a part of another group. Not a terrible thing, but just know there's no obvious way to avoid that except possibly sitting outside. Otherwise the food and service were excellent. We loved the very unique nachos.
Stopped in for a quick dinner and was sorry I didn't have a bigger appetite - there were so many items on the menu I wanted to try. We settled on the empanadas, the chorizo tacos and the scallop tacos to split between two of us. All were outstanding, but I have to say that the scallop tacos were my absolute favorite - great flavor combination! We will definitely be back!
This place is 6 stars!! Service was excellent! My husband and I always have questions about the food & our waitress was so sweet & patient. We loved the guacamole with the bacon (OMG!!) and the crab ceviche, the duck enchiladas, and the margaritas were unique & tasty! We will definitely be back!
Our first time here. The nachos were delicious ! Service was a bit slow but the waitress at least informed us why. The place is really small so it's pretty loud and the tables are very close together. Makes you feel like you are a part of your neighbor's conversation but the good is worth it.
I have been to Zona Rosa in Los Gatos on several occasions and have been very pleased with the menu, the service and the ambience. Absolutely love the ensalada temporada--a perfect balance of sweet and refreshing. My only complaint is the noise level--perhaps something could be done to help soundproof the walls a bit? It can be hard to hold a conversation when it's crowded.
I've been to Zona Rosa at least a dozen times now, and my experience just keeps getting better and better. This is food prepared with care and attention, and is the opposite of what most people expect when you suggest Mexican food. This is the type of meal you get when you venture off the beat and path in Mexico City. Fresh ingredients, incredibly flavorful sauces and warm hospitality. If you can withstand a bit of bus noise, sitting outside on The Alameda is a nice touch as well.
I've been here 4-5 times, I'm a foodie, and I travel a lot. Zona Rosa is the best mexican food in San Jose and beats most of what I find in Texas and San Diego. Great food, especially the guacamole with bacon and pistachios. The carnitas and enchiladas are great too.
The noise level inside this place is ear shattering at times. Its an echo chamber. They need carpet hangings on the walls badly. Sitting outside is nice in the summer but the tables are chairs are below average.
The menu has a good selection and a unique approach to many of the usual items you see on a mexican restaurants menu. For instance I had salmon soft tacos and they had a delicious avacado sauce that conplimented the perfectly cooked salmon with corn and other veggies as well. They have an excellent cocktail menu and I particularly like the two chile chevella! The only downside I can see is if you're starving and want a huge meal they dont really appeal to that. Ive personally never left there hungry even though its more of quality over quantity.
Another terrible experience at Zona. The food continues to be excellent, but in the last couple of months the service has taken a drastic nose dive. It's totally disorganized - you have to ask for your order 3 times for the staff to remember to bring it out. It's not for the lack of wait staff - as there seems to be enough of them - it's more that they need someone in there who knows how to run a restaurant.
I was disappointed that my Open Table reservation did not exist when I arrived. Fortunately they were able to seat me right away. We seemed to be forgotten - I had to flag down the server to take our order. Guacamole needed salt and additional seasoning. Chips also needed salt. Scallop tacos' sweet sauce was just a little bit too sweet.
Inside seating is incredibly loud so sit outside if you can.
Their apps were amazing and tacos were average and not worth for the price we paid for them. The dining experience would be so much better if we didn't have to wait 15 minutes for a menu or for a glass water...especially during an evening where it was 90 degrees. The server finally came and took our drinks/appetizers order and apologized for the wait. After finishing our drinks and apps, we waited another 15-20 minutes for them to come and ask us if we wanted another drink and take our orders for the entrees...what made it worse, the couple that sat next to us arrived 10 minutes after us, got their drinks and food on a timely basis and the server even checked in on them to see if they needed anything else....while ignoring us. I would've understood if it was busy but it was slow with a few tables being occupied. I will return and give them another chance to hopefully experience a better dining service.
The food here is always good but the service is terrible. They have no bussers so it takes forever for them to clean off your table, bring water, place settings, etc. And every time I go there the food takes forever. Shame on me for continuing to give this place a chance because the food is very good and the restaurant is conveniently located. After this service experience, I will not be going back.
It is apparent after your first of many to come visits to Zona Rosa that you are fortunate to experience a unique vision and creation. The menu selection has a depth and variety of flavors, easy to meet every diner's delights. It is clear the creators and owners have invested in the details and maintain a consistent quality offering excellent ingredients and using a light hand - We look forward to new culinary offerings from Zona Rosa in the future.
Horchata ice cream w/ pumpkin seed donuts! Meats were amazing - duck enchiladas and carnitas - came in more than ample quantity. For the most fun do the tapas thing - lots of side dishes for all to enjoy! I highly recommend the empenadas, fried avocado slices, guacamole, and of course the fish tacos!
This is a teeny, tiny place and it's always packed and busy for dinner.
Zona Rosa has become my favorite Oaxacan food restaurant. My husband and I have been there twice and loved every delectable morsel from their appetizers to desserts. I didn't run into a "bite" that I did not love at this restaurant. They put you in "savory heaven" with their unique flavors.
We had the Bacon / Pistachio Guacamole, Duck Breast Enchiladas with Mole & Carne Asada. There were so many choices to pick from that sounded so delicious we had to rely on my waiter who was informative and charming. We sat in the window seat notched next to the doorway which was nice except the door kept opening by patrons coming in looking for tables. So glad it was a warm night. We enjoyed everything and the food was outstanding in flavor and presentation except they could not produce a bill or receipt. Due to a printing error, we waited a long period of time and finally the waiter told us how much and we took his word and paid the bill via credit card. He presented us with a complimentary dessert which I assume we were not charged for. Hope it is on the menu because it was terrific. It was cinnamon icecream with 3 mini churros. All the flavors were delicious and we will go back again to try out other things that tempted us. We were already warned about the sometimes dicey service so were not taken off guard and the pleasant staff, charming ambiance and delicious food will bring us back again.
