If you're looking for a Manhattan style experience, this is the place to go. The food was excellent, the wine was great, and the service was fantastic. It is pricey however for State College.

This was my second visit to Zola’s and each time everything was exceptional. We had raw oysters grow east and west coast. Fresh and tasty

The entrees and appetizers were excellent. Brussels sprout gratin is tasty, especially with the bacon pieces. Our entrees have been scallops, salmon, pork tenderloin. Everything has been cooked perfectly. The only miss may have been the salmon skin. If it was supposed to be crisp, it was not. It was fresh and delicious nonetheless

The food is perfectly paced. Entrees followed appetizers at a perfect time.

Wine list is superb and beer list is very good

Service could be a tad faster but when enjoying a high end dinner, this is a minor issue.

Zola is one of the best restaurants in State College. It’s a little pricey for the area but a good value. The wine list is exceptional. Good for special occasions or important meetings.

We ordered the Oyster special, Crab Cake and cheese platter for appetizer. Oysters were fresh and delicious, crab cake was so good but was cool when it was served. The cheese platter was delicious. My husband had the filet which was cooked to perfection and we had the butternut squash ravioli. Both were very good. We ordered wine that was good as well

My daughter and I had a lovely dinner here on Saturday. Our waiter was very attentive and the food and wine was delicious. I do with there had been a few more choices on the menu though or a daily special. I had the scallops which were so delicious and my daughter was raving about how good her salmon was. Of course we did save room for dessert which was wonderful. We will be back.

In the past weeks I've visited Zola Kitchen and every time I have a different experiences.

The food is very inconsistent. I have order the same plate (Filet Mignon) and each time the term of the meat is different, every experience been less enjoyable.

The waiter on our last visit didn't listen at all to our requests (term of meat, side of plates, drinks, etc.) and would bring us our order the way he wanted, not how we ordered them.

Food was great, service was a major “opportunity”. Also, details such as bathroom cleanliness, clutter in the walkways, and tables that are unstable are low-hanging fruit for a restaurant of such potential. I’d go back but won’t go out of my way to do so.

Food very good but somewhat overpriced. Whole fried fish was overcooked. Overall very good. Over $500 for eight people with one bottle of wine ($43). Service was excellent and attentive without being overbearing.

We have eaten at Zola several times and the food is good but not worth the prices they charge. It's an a-la-carte menu where a dinner salad is $12.00, the salmon entrée was $38.00, cocktails start at $11.00 and with wine, the sky is the limit. Expect about $80.00/person average. I live in Pittsburgh but travel all over the country for my job and I get to try many of the new "farm-to-table" type restaurants with some very talented chefs. On a scale of 1-10, I'll give Zola a 7 but the service was only a 5. Not only was the service slow, they were slightly incompetent. They cleared the table after the salad (I guess they thought we were done with dinner) and forgot to give us forks with our entrée. We has to wait for extended times when we asked for bread, or salt, or water. The drinks took forever to show up yet the place was only 70% full as it was not a football weekend. There are only a few "up-scale" restaurants in State College since it is a college town and Zola is one of them but I would consider other options before selecting Zola. Unfortunately, Zola doesn't need to change since it is one of the few restaurants downtown that doesn't cater to the college crowd. The atmosphere is very bright and very loud since the bar is part of the restaurant with a simple, six foot room divider, separating the two areas. If there is entertainment in the bar, be prepared to scream during dinner.

Really Loved the food. I do feel that the service could be a bit better. We had people bringing plates to our table and not pre- busing the tables , which was a bit annoying. It took until the Wine Sommelier came around for him to notice the dishes on our table and Said" I will get someone to clear these.
Otherwise Very good.

This is probably the best restaurant in State College. But State College doesn't really have a large selection of high end restaurants. Our server was very friendly and professional. The food was good. I would skip the cesaer salad next time. The wine list by the glass was pretty good as well. We will go back here again due to limited choices in town.

A lot went wrong with our dinner. Let's start with the lobster pot pie. The puff pastry was clearly factory made rather than made in house, and it was seriously undercooked. It was pale, with barely a hint of brown, it hadn't risen really at all, and it was soggy in the sauce. Not a bit of crispiness to be found, and not much butter taste--I suspect the manufacturer used shortening instead. What was underneath was just OK--lobster, but not very much of it, in a cream sauce with vegetables. Couldn't taste the alleged cognac. For $39, I expect to see real puff pastry made in house rather than in a factory, and a generous amount of lobster. And with the $45 filet mignon, we got a side of ... carrots. Just plain carrots. The menu says that they're glazed, but no sort of glaze was detectable. At least they were cooked.

For dessert we had a caramel hazelnut tart. The menu claimed that there would be frangelico anglaise, but creme anglaise was thin on the ground, if it was there at all. The thing was filled with nothing but whole (not chopped) hazelnuts and caramel. As for the crust, the less said the better, honestly--suffice to say that it was reminiscent of cardboard.

Service? The kids working tables were friendly and nice but seriously overburdened, as was the kitchen--probably not their fault, as I'm sure they were shorthanded, but it did detract from the meal. Food was late, we never got bread, etc.

Overall: The New York prices signal that Zola has haute pretensions; too bad it doesn't live up to them.

Poor service. Bread after appetizer? Rushed service and some other weird stuff. Twice fried calamari. I think my risotto was oatmeal. On the other hand my teenagers enjoyed their small steaks and our drinks were okay.

My experience here was so-so. Service was excellent as advertised, but other than that I didn't find anything special about the food. I had the filet, and it wasn't any better than what is available at any of the chain steakhouse restaurants.

I enjoy Zola's. This time, they had run out of the main course I went for, which was a disappointment. The food is good, well-prepared, and presented beautifully. The restaurant is lovely, the service good. The prices are a bit steep, too steep for my taste. Still, I like Zola's, I enjoy Zola's for special occasions.

Probably the best food in the State College area. Excellent service. Our "go-to" place for special occasions. Only weakness is that it is loud, making conversation difficult. Not sure, but it may have gotten a bit rowdy in the bar area: there was some very loud (over and above the normal high-volume of the dining area) off-key singing from that area during our most recent visit.

Zola was always the best restaurant in State College, for food and service. However, our most recent visit was abysmal. Service was terrible, obviously Nick was in training but it would have been better to be informed of that at the beginning of service not at the end. We did not receive our bread until 45 minutes after being seated. The beet salad had almost no beets and was overdressed. The lobster pot pie had almost no lobster and it was $39.00. Worst off, the ladies room floor was sticky as if we were at the Den. I sincerely regret writing this review but we will not be visiting Zola again, unfortunately.

I ate here with my daughter while visiting her at college. The food was so good. We split a crab cake appetizer that was not like a normal bread filled crab cake. It was all crab without the bread. I ordered the lobster pot pie which was delicious while my daughter ordered the red snapper which had the right amount of "heat". We followed that up with a creme brulee which was the perfect ending. The wine list was extensive with many different varieties of wines and countries. The atmosphere was very nice. There was an accoustic small band playing in the wine area and you could tell it was a popular place for an adult crowd to enjoy the music and wine. We will definitely be returning.

Not a good review when the only good part of the meal was the wine and bread! Very limited menu, horrible food and over priced. My husband wanted the trout but we were told they were out of it. We were surprised they weren't stocked since this is the weekend of PSU arts festival. The reason they gave was that they had a lot of business on the prior Monday. But we were there on Thursday. Does that mean that had they not been busy the trout would have sat around from Monday to Thurs?? Ugh. I think that was what happened to our friend who ordered red snapper. It looked grey when delivered. Clearly not fresh - just inedible. My husband ordered the risotto in place of the trout. This was not risotto - it was bulgar wheat. The chef got over zealous with the salt. Another inedible dish. Prices very high. We have no problem spending $100 for a couple - but we expect food that is edible. Final note - they had live music which meant we had to yell to be heard among our group.

Came for lunch with friends during Penn State Arts Festival, which is well worth the trip. I ordered an Absolut Citron up with a twist and was served a completely different vodka possibly with vermouth in it. The server was nice, but either she or the bartender was clueless. She took it off the tab.
We started with a charcuterie plate for $16. Decent dish with three cheeses and small portion of smoked salmon and prosciutto (portions could have been more generous), honey and preserves.
Two of us ordered the vegetarian burger, which could have used more in the way of a spread or other juicy topping to add moisture. It was served on way-too-thick slices of sourdough bread and would have benefited more from a bun. Had to leave some of the bread behind. Side salads were very good.
Another friend ordered the crab cake, which was delicious. French fries were overcooked and too salty.
Ambience was very nice, very handsome modern bar, service very attentive. Zola is away from the crowds that swamp the usual eateries closer to the festival. Give it a try. I would have given 3.5 stars if possible, perhaps.

While the food and service were very good and everyone enjoyed their selections, I found it odd that my first choice was not available even though it was a standard brunch item and the restaurant had only been opened 15 minutes before I placed my order. How can it be that someone else had already ordered the last Monte Cristo? (There was only a handful of people in the restaurant at the time.) It's not really a speciality item, so can't figure why the restaurant was sold out within 15 minutes.
