Zodiac at Neiman Marcus - Northbrook Ratings and Reviews
Took my friend for her b-day. Always enjoy the food and ambience. Not too loud. Waitress, think her name was Jacques. Very nice and attentive , and of course food good. Love the little cup of chicken soup to start you off. Gave us a little bday dessert with candle. Very nice time!!
Our server put a damper on our celebratory lunch. She was not friendly, didn't smile, didn't connect with us at all on a personal level, and wasn't very attentive. (She forgot our coffees - we had to ask another server.) The food was just mediocre at best. The mandarin orange "souffle" was basically jello mold and the blueberry muffin that accompanied the dish was so overly sweet that it was barely edible. One of the salads was too lightly dressed (it was hard to get our server's attention to bring more dressing) and the other was nothing special. We won't go back.
Disappointing. The ambiance and service were outstanding but the food totally missed the mark. None of us really likes our main course. The fish was down right fishy and mine was overcooked and frankly nearly inedible.
Given the price, nearly $100 for 3 people, we will not be back.
The Zodiac Room is a favorite of mine to celebrate friends' birthdays and other special occasions.
It has a classy ambience and one really feels like a lady when dining there. The service is outstanding, and the food is delicious, a bit on the more expensive side, but definitely worth it.
The room transports you into another place - you would never know you were in a high end department store - it is just lovely. There is not one time that I can remember that the meal or the
service was disappointing which is why we return there numerous times. You come away from there as if you were dining on vacation. It is definitely an experience worth repeating.
All was fine except it would have been nice to not have to ask for water fill up and it would have been nice if the chicken broth cup & saucer had been removed when empty and not left til end of meal when we were leaving. Would have been nice to have been offered a second pop over. I could not give a 5 star rating because the little things just were not attended to without being asked. Bus help need more training.
The atmosphere was bright and fun! Loved seeing the girl going around showing off the coming fall trends! I had the turkey havarti sandwich which was delicious and my water glass was never left empty; staff was very attentive and greeted our table with a smile! Our birthday lunch celebration was very enjoyable!
atmosphere ladies lunching and loud high pitched voices. they want you to order right away but are attentive. salads delicious but some flavorless like love salad. dressings can be bland.
not cheap but convenient for shopping. popovers not browned and looked undercooked.
very generous with them passing a few times. not first choice but will go back at some point.
We have until now always really loved this restaurant. Our last visit was not good. I ordered trout which was very tasty, but the potatoes and green beans had absolutely no flavor added. No salt. No butter. Nothing. I was going to request butter to add but the waiter did not return while the food was still hot.
My companion said her food was similarly bland. Is there a new chef? Was it a bad day? They ran out of salt?
My cocktail tasted like it had been made with sparkling water, not sparkling wine. It did not contain any alcohol. Juice and seltzer should not cost $15.
We didn't even bother with dessert considering how bad the meal had been.
When I pay nearly $90 for lunch I expect it to be wonderful. I'm not sure I will return any time soon.
Given the prices and the NM name, I thought this would be much better. My diet coke did not taste like a diet coke. You did not have non-dairy creamer or the specialty creamers for the coffee. My quiche was big, but was not that good. My friend had the crab salad, but it did not appear to have that much crab. The popover was excellent. The server was very attentive. The setting is lovely. I don't think I'd come back again for a special birthday lunch again. Just needed more extra's for the price.
The food is excellent at Zodiac, and it's a good place to get together with friends for lunch. The meal always begins with a complimentary demitasse of bouillon and a hot popover, which Is a very agreeable tradition. Sometimes you get a surprise fashion show as well, when willowy models stroll through the restaurant wearing some lovely creations from the Neiman's collection, stopping at tables if customers wish to chat. My only reservation is that for someone with hearing problems, like me, the noise level can get rather high. And yet, I keep going back. Incidentally, they serve "strawberry butter" with their popovers, but are happy to bring you regular butter on request. I always ask for regular. There's a friend we get together with twice a year, and Zodiac has become our meeting place of choice for several years now.
We had a reservation for 12:30 and were seated promptly. We were served water & their wonderful pop overs almost immediately after being seated. Then we waited and waited and waited for over 20 minutes before our waitress acknowledged us. She apologized for the wait but it seemed like the restaurant wasn't overly busy and our salads took forever to be served as well. We were having a leisurely birthday lunch so on the other hand I can say we weren't rushed out at all.
