   Hmm. First time bringing my kids, 20 year old triplets, and the first time I've been in nearly 40 years. It is an experience, I guess, but a one-time experience, I think. The physical space is in need of an update, from the art to the furniture, flooring, paint, etc. Plus, there was an odd smell in the elevator and in the waiting space at the restaurant. As I looked around, it is really just a place for elderly folks to eat small portions of overpriced, mediocre food. Chicken Piccata was lemony and decently portioned, but it just fell flat. The pot roast was super tender, but not enough potatoes. Haricot verts were just under done. OK, but not outstanding. The Mandarin orange souffle option was far too tiny. 3 blueberries, 1 raspberry, 0.5 strawberry, come on, it's a salad plate!!?? Also served with no bread as described. And, it was not a souffle, but,a creamy, 1970s gelatin. The chicken salad was fresh but nothing special. The French dip was also small, regarding value. The popover is just not a proper vehicle for what should be a hearty sandwich. And served with a plain pile of lettuce? This was the most overpriced meal on our table, for sure! We opted out of dessert, but, our server talked us into the famous cookies, to go. They were fair. Honestly though, we all make a better cookie that doesn't taste so oddly processed. I was glad to visit NM with my kids and the memories I had of going with my mom came flooding back. The memories were far better than the reality. I was a bit sad that my college kids spent nearly $175, including gratuity (lunch and valet) for a rather mediocre lunch, in a blah setting where nothing was truly remarkable and no one was sated. Maybe, with the dramatic saving of The Zodiac Room, Saks Global will bring it into this century and make it memorable once again.

   The service is warm and professional. The food is great, and the menu is the same as other NM restaurants I've been to elsewhere. The atmosphere is relaxing and elegant. The only drawback to this location is the parking. Plan ahead; it will take longer than you think.

   My wife had the chicken piccata and I ordered the signature pot roast. Everything was perfect from the plating and portions to the quality of the food and overall taste. Raul was very attentive and handled the balance of table time masterfully.

   It has been many years since I have had the pleasure of dining at The Zodiac Room. When I worked downtown this was our place to celebrate. We live in the suburbs but it was worth the drive in to do a little shopping and enjoy this beautiful restaurant. I took my Mother for an early Mother’s Day celebration. The service was impeccable and the food delicious. Popovers and strawberry butter are always a treat and my Mom loved her chicken piccata. Highly recommend The Zodiac Room.
