Zodiac at Neiman Marcus – Downtown Dallas
For over 50 years, the Zodiac at Neiman Marcus in the Downtown Dallas location has been the place to dine in Dallas. Housed on the 6th floor of the flagship store, Stanley Marcus first conceived this restaurant as a convenience for out of town customers who were spending a full day shopping in the store.
Take lunching to the next level at The Zodiac®, our elegant restaurant in the original Neiman Marcus Downtown Dallas. There on Valentines Day and we were worried about it being packed and having to experience one ofthose mother day dinners where everyone gets confused. Not the case here alway tables opened. The food was excellent the prices were fine but even though the place was not packed. There did seem to be a disconnect between the waiter and the kitchen. Our waiter Victor was great but after placing an order for our entree after a substantial amount of time he come back to reconfirm the order so I don't know where the confusion was but we did wait another period of time. They did try to ease the pain by kept offering us more popovers. Overall we were not in a rush and the experience was filled with good memories.
It was delightful! We had lunch for my birthday and they brought out some delicious lemon cake for dessert. It was such a nice touch.
They have changed the menu and do not have the delicious salads that they use to.
Recommend but With reservations... Just very expensive. Not something I would do except for a special occasion at NM.
It was really too.loud because a large group was in there for a birthday celebration. I think they were very inconsiderate to anyone else dining in the restaurant from 2-3 PM. It was just entirely too.loud. it was a less enjoyable experience due to them. I don't think an intimate cafe setting is the right setting for a large party. The food and wine were both wonderful! Our servers were wonderful!
Excellent food and service! Our wIt person Victor very nice and welcoming. Ambience very nice!
fun spot before and after shopping. a classic worth repeating
Since I was visiting Dallas for business, I wanted to visit the flagship store downtown. My mother worked in cosmetics when she was a girl. I had read about the iconic recipes and wanted to see for myself.. I was not disappointed. The service is perfect and lunch was superb. Loved every minute I was there.
Menu was extremely limited. I struggled to even find anything that sounded good. Popovers tasted like they were cooked a little too long. And even though the strawberry butter is strawberry, you can't tell. It doesn't have any flavor. Also, I don't want cold hard butter with my bread. As my main course, I had the citrus salad, which was also not good. Lastly, I had lemon cake for dessert, which tasted like it probably came out of the freezer. It was dry and definitely not fresh. Overall a major disappointment. I know good food and there are far too many restaurants that are much much better.
With family in town we’d been playing host all weekend. We decided to have lunch at Neiman’s after a little morning shopping. The service is excellent, and the food is exactly as you’d expect; flawless. My mother-in-law, who normally finds the ability to drop a complaint at anything, really enjoyed herself. This is a great spot to take clients, have a date, and even impress the hard to impress.
Service was impeccable, the food was a five star meal and valet is awesome.
Always amazing food, service, and ambiance! The gratis consommé and popovers are a wonderful way to start the meal!
The food was very good - healthy and light, but still delicious. The services were very attentive and the ambience very elegant
Had a wonderful time and the food and service was awesome
Holiday buffet is a tradition after we see Christmas displays.
Took my (college-student) daughter for a pre-matinee lunch and just happened to book one of the days they were having their famous holiday buffet. Pricey, but definitely worth the splurge for a special occasion. Food was fabulous, excellent variety and high quality. Service was its usual high standard—efficient, calm, friendly, and helpful. Ordered one of the holiday special drinks and it was lovely. Would definitely recommend if you’re looking for a celebration!
We had a party of five for the Holiday Buffet, and were looking forward to a feast, but to my disappointment I feel we were shortchanged. First of all, it is very cheap for Neiman-Marcus to charge extra for coffee and tea in light of the fact that the buffet price, $43, is substantial. I fully understand charging for liquor, of course, but not for coffee, tea, or soft drinks. I have attended many buffets at quality establishments throughout the country and never encountered such a shortsighted rude policy when the base price is more than ample.
Also, the dessert at the end of the meal was almost non-existent. We were given no choices. Instead of a dessert selection, we were brought slices of 2 kinds of cake, a devil's food and a red velvet, and a piece of rather tough and very bland bread pudding. I was looking forward to some selection of pies, cheesecake, cookies, squares, tortes, ice cream, sherbert, or anything but the dry cake we were served. While I and my companions love dessert, we don't even like cake and the bread pudding was a rather dry lump and not served in individual dishes or with vanilla sauce or any kind of moisture or liquid. Again, I have never attended a reputable buffet with such a lack of desserts and I find such treatment inexplicable.
The buffet itself had a wide variety of salads, which was nice, but the entrees were unexceptional.
This is the first time I have ever written a critical restaurant review but our experience was substandard in several ways and certainly did not live up to our justifiable expectations.
Open for lunch only on the 6th floor of Nieman Marcus' flagship store in Downtown Dallas. Late November through December the holiday buffet is the only offering and it is magnificent. Pricey ($43 this year) but with a collection of gourmet salads, sides and entres to please any taste. Service is perfect (as it is all year) and the atmosphere is formal but not the least bit stuffy: bright and luxe. Lots of business folk on annual buffet visits but plenty of room for couples and smaller parties. Not many kids in evidence and they would really have to be on best behavior. Reservations a must though early afternoon might get a seating.
The cost of the meal did not match the quality of the meal.
When visiting Dallas, lunch in the zodiac restaurant at neimans on commerce is a must!!!!!
We've attended the holiday buffet at Zodiac for many years. Always delicious! It's costly and I always feel it hard to get the full value out of an expensive buffet, but it's a special event for us each year.
One suggestion...the change to the dessert course this year - to 3 pieces of cake versus the plate of small desserts - was a definite mistake. Cakes were meh.
Excellent holiday buffet love that they had upgraded the desserts absolutely perfect
We made an open table reservation, and no where did it say that there was no ala carte menu; just buffet. We drove downtown Dallas to not eat. We didn't think $43 was a good deal for the buffet. Wish we'd known.
The holiday buffet is a favorite tradition! Never disappoints.
A sweet afternoon spent with my aunt and sister ... celebrating the holiday! The history of Neimans downtown and the ambiance of the decor was our attraction. Outstanding food.
Christmas celebration after a show.
We are going to make this a tradition. Great food, great ambiance. Good Service.
Really top notch.
I always take my daughters & granddaughters for a Christmas tea or lunch. I stopped going to a Neimans a couple of years ago because of poor service but decided to give them another try. Service was fine, food mediocre for the price point especially. Less value than expected.
Love the Christmas buffet
A wonderful holiday tradition for our family. Never fails to amaze.
Norman’s holiday buffet is not to be missed! Such a fun girls lunch each year.
The holiday brunch at Neiman’s is one of our favorite holiday traditions. Everything about it is extra special! Make your reservations early! You’ll love it!
Christmas Buffet tradition with an old friend: the best!
The ambiance and holiday cheer was contagious. Unfortunately, most of our food was cold.
My daughter and I met in Dallas to have a girls weekend- we always have lunch at Neiman Marcus- it is a long standing tradition and one we both treasure. We live in Minnesota BTW.
A wonderful time with spouse & friends.
