Zocalo Cleveland Ratings and Reviews
A little disappointed that Zocalo scaled back its menu to just a few simpler choices such as tacos, quesadillas, and only a few entrees. Several years back the restaurant offered more elaborate and interesting entrees with a more colorful presentation. Having said that, our food was excellent--tacos and a burrito bowl with tons of grilled shrimp. My friend loved the sweetness of her Mohito. My grande margarita was definitely grande but was bland and skimpy on the alcohol. Service was excellent. We were initially seated at a tight booth with a table height that was much too high for the benches. The other booth was the same and had torn seats and a TV that was hung too low over the booth. Our server encouraged us to move to a table, which was a better height but noisy as it was right in front of the kitchen and in the direct line where servers left the kitchen with their trays. A reconfiguration and update to this area of the restaurant is definitely needed.
A little pricey for what you get. A $5 taco wasn’t pretty small and nothing really came with it. The kids meal $4.99 taco was a better deal because at least you got rice and beans with it (but obviously only 10 and under can order that). The rest of the food wasn’t anything special. Went a few years ago and I feel like it has changed since. I don’t think I would go back, but it’s morn a horrible restaurant. Just better ones out there these days.
Server was excellent. But the carnitas were so overcooked that they looked like charcoal and tasted like charcoal. Instead of risking my food being tampered with I ate the pickled veggies and grilled pineapple. Don't recommend it to anyone. The restaurant wasn't busy. No reason to be sending food out like that.
The food was fresh, modern, and had well blended complimentary flavors. The prices were more than reasonable. Our 'go to' type of restaurant is always Mexican and we have eaten at hundreds of Mexican restaurants around the country, this one definitely tops the list. Beautuful ambience with awesome service. If you are in Cleveland you have to make time for their eats.
Zocalo was fantastic, the tacos were amazing and our waiter was outstanding however, the girl at the front was not friendly and did not take care of our reservation properly so we did not collect our points.
As a matter of fact when we checked in we told her that we had a reservation through Open Table and she told us they didn't accept reservations that day.
Outside of her obviously over whelment with the hostess position I would got back in a heartbeat!
We went for a work lunch and had 1 hour. The service was horrible - we were told (after asking twice) that they were out of chips. We got chips and they were stale. Our food took over a half hour and the restaurant was less than a quarter full (the patio was half full). I never had a bad experience there until the other day. As a former GM of a restaurant, I was very disappointed with the service and food. The waitress told us that the kitchen was really backed up (after we asked about our food after 25 minutes) and then she avoided our table (no refills with water etc) until the food came. Then, when the food did come, the waitress didn't even know which tacos were which. We didn't ask to see a manager but it would have been nice to have someone stop by and at least comp our drinks or something. I understand that things run over and that things can be unpredictable in the restaurant world. But being on an hour lunch (that we told her we had one hour) and then being 45 minutes late back to work is totally unacceptable. Won't be going back.
Had a great visit and the food and service was incredible!! The only complaint would be the flies that were bothering us the entire meal. This is because the whole front of the building is open to the street...maybe a screen over that area would help. Other than that a great experience!! A-
Reservation thru Open Table. Restaurant called to confirm-nice touch. Seated when arrived (on time). Outside seating night of Cleveland Cavaliers home playoff game. Area was crazy busy. Quite fun to sit outside and people-watch. Service perfect!! Tequila choices are excellent. Loved the shrimp taco, guacamole and pico.
Definitely make reservation. And enjoy!!
