Zocalo Cleveland Ratings and Reviews
Server was excellent. But the carnitas were so overcooked that they looked like charcoal and tasted like charcoal. Instead of risking my food being tampered with I ate the pickled veggies and grilled pineapple. Don't recommend it to anyone. The restaurant wasn't busy. No reason to be sending food out like that.
The food was fresh, modern, and had well blended complimentary flavors. The prices were more than reasonable. Our 'go to' type of restaurant is always Mexican and we have eaten at hundreds of Mexican restaurants around the country, this one definitely tops the list. Beautuful ambience with awesome service. If you are in Cleveland you have to make time for their eats.
Zocalo was fantastic, the tacos were amazing and our waiter was outstanding however, the girl at the front was not friendly and did not take care of our reservation properly so we did not collect our points.
As a matter of fact when we checked in we told her that we had a reservation through Open Table and she told us they didn't accept reservations that day.
Outside of her obviously over whelment with the hostess position I would got back in a heartbeat!
We went for a work lunch and had 1 hour. The service was horrible - we were told (after asking twice) that they were out of chips. We got chips and they were stale. Our food took over a half hour and the restaurant was less than a quarter full (the patio was half full). I never had a bad experience there until the other day. As a former GM of a restaurant, I was very disappointed with the service and food. The waitress told us that the kitchen was really backed up (after we asked about our food after 25 minutes) and then she avoided our table (no refills with water etc) until the food came. Then, when the food did come, the waitress didn't even know which tacos were which. We didn't ask to see a manager but it would have been nice to have someone stop by and at least comp our drinks or something. I understand that things run over and that things can be unpredictable in the restaurant world. But being on an hour lunch (that we told her we had one hour) and then being 45 minutes late back to work is totally unacceptable. Won't be going back.
Had a great visit and the food and service was incredible!! The only complaint would be the flies that were bothering us the entire meal. This is because the whole front of the building is open to the street...maybe a screen over that area would help. Other than that a great experience!! A-
Reservation thru Open Table. Restaurant called to confirm-nice touch. Seated when arrived (on time). Outside seating night of Cleveland Cavaliers home playoff game. Area was crazy busy. Quite fun to sit outside and people-watch. Service perfect!! Tequila choices are excellent. Loved the shrimp taco, guacamole and pico.
Definitely make reservation. And enjoy!!
Going to a show at Playhouse Square. Cleveland is about an hour plus drive for us. Food was good but not great. Will try another restaurant next time we are in town. Rice was very salty. We were about 15 min late due to traffic and they held our reservation for us which we appreciated.
First time and so glad we made the effort to eat in. We planned on coming to a concert in Cleveland and had dinner before the show. I lived in Texas around good Mexican food and I have to say I was not disappointed in the authentic meal. Did I mention that the margarita was fabulous! It was so busy but it did not change the excellent service and food we received. We will return. Great job Zocalo!
A friend and I were going to a concert at The Q and made a reservation to eat here before! Open Table App was easy and convenient to use and make a reservation. They had it and our table ready when we got there! We were seated in the bar area, atmosphere was fun, service was great and the food was pretty good!
Thanks for a great pre-concert experience.
This place was never very good and it hasn't improved. In fact, it's probably worse because now even the margaritas are watery. The only reason to go here is because you need someplace close to the Q and everything else on Open Table is booked.
Mexican food is about the easiest to do reasonably well, but here's some of the ways Zocalo gets it wrong. First the chips come broken into tiny pieces and they're delivered with a tiny dish of salsa that isn't fresh and frankly doesn't measure up to grocery store jarred salsa. The margaritas come in a huge fancy glass but I detected no tequila and almost no lime. Fajitas--the shrimp wasn't bad but almost no grilled onions or peppers. Guess what you mostly get--watery zucchini. Also no rice or beans, a tiny bit of lettuce and cheese, no pico.
We had to request silverware. When it was delivered, one set had chewing gum stuck to the napkin that wrapped the silverware. We had to ask for that to be removed.
As dinner arrived, the table next to us called a waiter over. The diner apologetically pointed out a fingernail that was in her food. The waiter merely whisked the food away- no apology, no compensation.
This place is awful.
Came in before a Cavs game. I made a reservation and was glad that I did. It was very busy but they had our table ready when we arrived. They have an impressive tequila menu and the margaritas were perfect. We3 ordered the taco's and were impressed with the serving size. We will definitely return soon!
We lived downtown for years and Zocalo used to be one of our favorite restaurants. We hadn't been there in about a year or so, but made reservations for the Sunday before Valentine's Day. Turns out we didn't need to, the place was pretty empty, and despite that fact they proceeded to seat us at a high-top table that wobbled... High-top tables are not my ideal for a nice night out, especially with a reservation, but we moved ourselves to another one nearby that didn't wobble at least. Now on to the meal/service... Not sure if/when the restaurant came under new management or ownership, but the menu has been significantly shortened, and in my opinion brought down to the lowest common denominator... I could see it being a good meal for before or after a sporting event - descent Mexican style bar food at a reasonable price while still having the appeal of being on E 4th St. But we used to love how diverse the menu was, and were really looking forward to the experience that going to Zocalo used to be... My husband's absolute favorite was that there used to be a menu option for your own custom guacamole to be made at your table. They'd bring out all the ingredients and you'd either pick exactly which ones you'd want or the servers would make suggestions. It was always delicious and a fun experience, and I was really upset to see that they've not only done away with the custom guacamole all together, but the guacamole we ordered wasn't even freshly made. It could've been prepared the same day of course, but it was freezing cold when served so we knew it came directly from the fridge or freezer... The entree options were severely limited, and we both ordered what I would consider to be comparable to Chipotle burrito bowls, just with a handful more toppings. All in all we were both very disappointed in Zocalo for our Valentine's Day outing, and will definitely (sadly) not be returning in the future. (Chocolate Bar saved the night though!)
We made reservations for my fathers birthday on February second. I was able to reserve a table and when we arrived they were closed. If they were going to close they need to make sure all of their guests are aware. Very disappointed. I will continue to go to Greenhouse Tavern for dinner instead.
