I’ve said before. I’ll say it again. You cannot get a bad meal at Zocalo. Recommend outside seating, weather permitting, and get the bonus of watching Multifaceted C’ Ville March by.
We took our son and seven friends to Zocalo for dinner and thoroughly enjoyed it. From the cocktails to the apps to the lamp shank and salmon, everything was fabulous. We will definitely return!
Went here to celebrate a birthday and found it to be an okay experience. We got the butternut squash soup and Mexican Caesar that were pretty good but wouldn't order again. We really enjoyed the entrees though! The duck breast and lamb shank were both very delicious.
Reason why the overall rating is not Very Good is that we were not happy with the service we received. Our waitress was very delayed and parts of my entree were cold because our dishes were sitting out waiting to be served to us. Our waitress was busy chatting up a pair at another table for about 15 minutes.
Zocalo never disappoints! We tend to order the same thing each time we go - cheese fritters, mussels, and the scallops. They are always delicious! Servers are professional and attentive. Our favorite restaurant on the downtown mall.
Food and service were fantastic. Noise level was distracting and hard to have a conversation:(
Always reliable and festive, Zocalo hasn't changed much over the years. That's not a dig in this case. It's one of Zocalo's virtues. BTW, I don't really get kale. But their kale salad is sublime.
Nice restaurant and decent service. The food is wonderful. I wasn't too happy to see our server loaded my check with a 20% gratuity when I got home, we had to leave in a bit of a hurry so I passed along a card to expedite the process. Originally we were a party of three and two friends popped in half way through our meal.
Excellent as always! Food was outstanding. Thanks for refilling the water glasses every chance!
It has been several years since we have dined here. It was one of the best meals out we have had in some time. The service was exceptional. Our meals were fantastic. I do believe those were the absolute best fried oysters I've ever had.
We had the salmon and cous cous. It was delicious. We will be back.
Great food. Date night prices in a casual dining setting.
Had a nice dinner with daughter who attends UVA. Food was interesting and very good. Service was a little slow, but staff was friendly and overall pace was acceptable. Certainly will go again
ZOCOLO continues to serve very good food. Service is very good. Good bar as well.
As always food was excellent, this is our “go to” restaurant. Never disappoints!!
My husband and I have been going to Zocalo's for our anniversary since we got married. It is the best place for dinner and the food is delicious.
Very tasty food, great service. Been living in Charlottesville for about 6 months and this is my favorite restaurant so far.
We had a fantastic girls-night-out! The margarita sampler was so tasty as was the Rockfish. Highly recommend Zocola!
The food and drinks were amazing. The service was exceptional.
Loved the food, vibe, and feel of this restaurants. Great food and great drinks - perfect combination for a great date night or dinner with friends before a night out!
My steak was seriously over cooked. I asked for medium rare and it was at least medium-well. I had to send it back. It was delicious, however, when done properly.
Wonderful food; should be in the top 10 restaurants in C'ville. Nice vibe and interesting interior. The tuna tartare is a tasty treat; rockfish is great. Nice creative menu with a very good chef in the kitchen. Very delicious deserts; all in all one of C'ville secret dining gems. Been there a long while so they are doing many things very well! Try it!
Delicious meal while at UVA for a conference.
Had dinner with a friend on a week night. Shared a delicious beet salad. My friend ordered salmon, which she commented was very good but a small portion. I had the chili relleno. Was an interesting presentation, but the flavor was disappointingly bland. There wasn't a hint of heat from any type of pepper or cilantro to make the flavor pop. Overall though, an enjoyable evening. Entrees were a bit overpriced.
The noise level was disastrous. Despite asking for a quieter table our lady guest was told that the celebratory party to the back of us would be leaving shortly. This did not happen and there was patently ample room elsewhere.
It was awesome.
Their nouveau Latin American offerings were superb - inventive adaptations of classics, lovely presentation, and spicy, but not excessively so. The cocktails were great - after our show, we came back for more! The vibe was urban hipster, and we're definitely not this, but we felt comfortable and welcomed, so it's not exclusive.
Tables were too close to each other!! Got tired of hearing the people beside me and their conversation.
We had a fabulous dinner in Valentine’s Day!! Great service. Great food. Great wine. And very romantic.
I dined here on a rare date night with my husband. Neither of us had been there in years. We sat by the fire on a cool evening and the food tasted divine. The food selection and flavors were a nice change of pace — I can't think of another Charlottesville restaurant that would have a similar menu. The ambiance is hip, but not overpowering. The staff was perfectly attentive. My only hesitation was cost. My scallop entree was $28 and had only four scallops atop little plantain cakes, but the flavor of the dish itself was delightful.
seating too close to the bar on a night when there was a huge bar scene was very noisy.
food was very good - group of 6 ended up with 4 different entrees - all were very good. appetizers were good (pepper cheese fritters were great, and cheese tray was nice.)
server was attentive, and asked the kitchen for information about the scallops (ascertained that they were dry, not wet, from the source). cocktails were different and good, and wine (red was good) OK - no New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, however. lemon blueberry creme brulee was not as nice as expected - can't go wrong with just regular! consistency was good, however.
Restaurant week. Dishes with unique and perfectly balanced seasoning. Always with some heat. Nice.
The service was good, the food was delish and the atmosphere was nice.
Great Charlottesville Restaurant Week menu. Really enjoyed the pork chop!
The restaurant week menu was great! Loved the mussels!
We enjoyed our time at Zocalo. The food was tasty but a bit too expensive, overall. My appetizer was still frozen inside and I cannot say if that was by design or just by accident. Shredded beef was just OK but mussels were great! Service was attentive and super friendly. The inside of this local was too dim for my liking and noise level was "energetic" - we still talked a bit but I would not recommend it for a date night.
Restaurant week menu was extensive and very good! They were busy but rushed when we lost track of time, thanks! (Movie)
I typically love Zocolo; during this visit the food wasn't to the same quality as I've enjoyed in the past. The scallops in particular were very salty so at the end of an $80+ meal I was somewhat disappointed. We did enjoy the duck and it's healthy portion. The non-alcoholic beverages offered were delightful!
Delicious meal. Would definitely go back. My steak was cooked perfectly and paired well with the polenta fries and asparagus. My wife raved about the salmon and that it was the best meal she's had out in a long time. Good bar menu and wine list as well.
