Their nouveau Latin American offerings were superb - inventive adaptations of classics, lovely presentation, and spicy, but not excessively so. The cocktails were great - after our show, we came back for more! The vibe was urban hipster, and we're definitely not this, but we felt comfortable and welcomed, so it's not exclusive.

seating too close to the bar on a night when there was a huge bar scene was very noisy.
food was very good - group of 6 ended up with 4 different entrees - all were very good. appetizers were good (pepper cheese fritters were great, and cheese tray was nice.)
server was attentive, and asked the kitchen for information about the scallops (ascertained that they were dry, not wet, from the source). cocktails were different and good, and wine (red was good) OK - no New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, however. lemon blueberry creme brulee was not as nice as expected - can't go wrong with just regular! consistency was good, however.

We enjoyed our time at Zocalo. The food was tasty but a bit too expensive, overall. My appetizer was still frozen inside and I cannot say if that was by design or just by accident. Shredded beef was just OK but mussels were great! Service was attentive and super friendly. The inside of this local was too dim for my liking and noise level was "energetic" - we still talked a bit but I would not recommend it for a date night.

I typically love Zocolo; during this visit the food wasn't to the same quality as I've enjoyed in the past. The scallops in particular were very salty so at the end of an $80+ meal I was somewhat disappointed. We did enjoy the duck and it's healthy portion. The non-alcoholic beverages offered were delightful!

Delicious meal. Would definitely go back. My steak was cooked perfectly and paired well with the polenta fries and asparagus. My wife raved about the salmon and that it was the best meal she's had out in a long time. Good bar menu and wine list as well.

I used to go to Zocalo almost weekly but got tired of the same menu. It's been a while since I was there, and returning was a great decision. The food was and is excellent. The service was superb. The ambience is very nice--I did not give it a perfect score because it was cold in the restaurant (know that the outside temp was unusually/outrageously cold). I'll start returning regularly to Zocola. I never disliked it but I overdosed in the past on the menu that did not change a lot. I'd recommend it to anyone.

Visited for New Year's Eve and the staff was excellent. Very friendly service with the right amount of attentiveness. Every dish was well prepared and delicious. I thought the portion sizes were right. The Vela jack Fritters are delicious, as well as, the mussels. It was an enjoyable experience all around.

The food was delicious and the service excellent. I requested a quiet table for my elderly mother, and the staff set us up in the perfect spot. The salmon is always a stand-out, and the beet salad with blue cheese was terrific. One of us particularly enjoyed her scallops, and we all really liked the special appetizer (duck confit). Thanks for a lovely evening!

It was our first time at Zo Ca Lo as we were in Charlottesville for a short get away. We thought the food was very tasty and the presentation was more than we expected. We would definitely come back the next time we are in town. The atmosphere was cool and fun and the live music just added to the whole experience. The prices were reasonable and the serving are generous. We loved it!

Arrived for our 7:00 reservation and was immediately seated. This place was hoppin'. The service was great and the food exceptional. I had the seared duck breast which was perfectly cooked and seasoned. My wife being a vegetarian had the chili relleno and loved it. Beware, portions are huge so arrive hungry. Definitely will return if I'm ever in Charlottesville again.

Had not been to Zocalo for several years and we won't wait so long again. The food was outstanding and everything actually tasted delicious instead of just sounding interesting. The tuna tartare was wonderful and definitely try their take on the steak - incredible sauce. We eat out a good bit in Charlottesville and I am surprised that Zocalo is not in the top ten; it definitely should be. It was completely full on Saturday evening so many others already know how great it is. Put it on your list!

Despite seeing great reviews (and receiving a glowing recommendation) to Zocalo, I was very disappointed in the meal. The Vella Jack Cheese Fritter appetizer had the same gummy consistency of the Black Bean and Corn Relleno. The latter was absolutely thick and difficult to eat. The Drunken New York Strip came pre-sliced and heavily pre-sauced. My companions who received the Grilled Salmon gave great reviews. Given the cost of this restaurant, I was highly disappointed in the food's taste and texture. However, the presentation and atmosphere of the restaurant was nice.

We made reservations at Zocalo because it is steps from the Paramount Theater where we attended a concert. Have dined at Zocalo in the very distant past and remembered it being very good. We were not disappointed in the food or the service this time either. Very friendly service and the food was very good. As were had only a space of time to eat before the concert we really cannot comment on other aspects of the restaurant. We sat just to the left of the front door, a little alcove with a few tables, was pretty loud.

The kale salad and meatball appetizers were excellent. The scallop entree was also excellent while the chicken was very good being a slight touch toward overdone. Great place to catch an early dinner following an afternoon football game.
