Italian restaurant chain Zizzi opened the doors of its very first branch in London's Chiswick in 1999. Now there are over 100 branches, all decorated in an appealing contemporary style. Wood-fired ovens, open kitchens and modern interior design with locally influenced art features make for a vibrant atmosphere. As for the food, they serve up a variety of traditional Italian dishes including all the usual suspects: salads, antipasti, pasta, pizza, calzone, risotto as well as fish and meat mains and desserts. What Zizzi really pride themselves on is sourcing good quality ingredients; salads are dressed with white balsamic vinegar from Modena, for example, and offer Goddess Olives, a variety known for their firm flesh and nutty flavour. The modestly priced wine list is dominated by Italian wines, starting at £13.45 for a Montepulciano d'Abruzzo. Nottingham's branch of Zizzi is handily located just off the Old Market Square, walking distance to the Royal Concert Hall and Ice Arena.

We arrived a little early and had to wait a few mins to be seated, however after 15 mins no one has acknowledged us, made any eye contact or too any interest in us at all. Now had the restaurant have been busy then I could have understood, however a number of staff members are standing around chatting to each other. So we got up and left!

This is a great place for good food and service. Food always excellent. It was a birthday meal and the staff couldn't do enough to help with celebration.

Enjoyed the fritto misto starter - we shared a large portion which was just right for two. The seafood risotto was tasty and packed with seafood. The picante rustica pizza was delicious. A 500 ml carafe of wine was also just right to share. Friendly, attentive and prompt service.

Food was fantastic. Service was slow. An hour for two pizzas is crazy, even for a Saturday night. Tables rammed close together, so noisy you had to shout, a manager behind the bar was smashing bottles into a bin which was just ridiculous. By all means go but not on a Saturday night.

My best friend Lynne and I enjoyed our first meal here prior to going to the theatre it set us up for a lovely night. Service and food were fantastic
