About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Lively
  • Neighborhood gem
The seventh member of Zingerman’s Community of Businesses, located in Ann Arbor, Michigan, the Roadhouse opened in 2003 with the vision of bringing really good American food to the community. The Roadhouse has worked hard to create its own truly unique food culture, transforming high-quality ingredients into traditional, full-flavored dishes after years of studying American foodways.

With chef Bob Bennett at the helm of the kitchen, and our James Beard Award nominated staff’s dedication to great service, the Roadhouse draws in regulars from all over. We welcome our fans from right down the block or from all over the country. Buttermilk Fried Chicken, award-winning Mac ‘n Cheese, NOLA Gumbo, Nashville Hot Chicken, Oyster Po’Boys, full-flavored burgers, and Donut Sundaes are just a few Roadhouse specialties that people look forward to every time they dine with us. Beyond these tried-and-true dishes, the Roadhouse is also a destination for really good BBQ!

Why they're an Icon

Executive chef: Bob Bennett

From the OpenTable editors: This James Beard nominee for outstanding hospitality, part of the legendary Zingerman's restaurant family, has been an Ann Arbor favorite for more than two decades. Locals flock here for chef Bob Bennett's Southern food staples like buttermilk fried chicken and gumbo. Pair that with some of the best barbecue in town and a wine list picked by famed sommelier Stephen Satterfield, and you have an unforgettable meal on the books.

I made reservations for my family who was visiting from out of town. The place was so noisy that we could hardly hear to talk but that is expected at Sunday Brunch. All of our food was brought out at once so that was nice. Now the bad news.. one family member was served chicken mac and cheese for but for $28 we were surprised to find a deep fried chicken feather in it!!! My niece had a hair in her drink, but she didn’t want to tell the server. Our server was nice enough to take a picture of us before we left, however after the bill was paid and we gave cash to the member of the family paying with a card I received a phone call that a mistake was made and he didn’t give us the entire bill. I had to go back in and pay another bill for over $100. Anyways it was ok. Not saying we won’t go back bc the food is usually good.

Went to Sunday Brunch. Food was very good. Service, however, was VERY slow. Our server just disappeared for long stretches of time. Had trouble fining him to pay our bill. I don’t expect that to happen at The Roadhouse. Usually service is very attentive.

My son & I enjoyed a delicious Saturday lunch. They even took us in earlier than our timed reservation. And packaged our leftovers well for a drive to another city on a hot day.

I always love eating at the Roadhouse. I was surprised that my entree Caesar salad had several authentic ingredients requiring special handling like raw egg and quality ground anchovies in the dressing but no actual anchovies in or on the salad or available on a complimentary basis on request - only for an up charge, which feels wrong to me because that is part of the classic bone Fide’ Caesar ever since Caesar reigned! Even more so now that we unfortunately have an Emperor of our very own in the USA!

Honestly, I prefer the deli, for the food, the vibe, the knowledgeable staff. We ordered poutine at the Roadhouse and it was grossly lukewarm, which surprised me. The additional fries that our server brought to us, to use up the rest of the gravy and cheese curds, were fantastic, so I don't understand why the dish couldn't be served hot the first time around. My son reported that his shrimp po' boy was great.

Food was pretty good and staff very nice, but very expensive for the type of place. The wait staff were wearing t-shirts and jean shorts serving us $30 pulled pork.

Went for Father’s Day Brunch, they were extremely busy. Had reservations but still waited 10-15 minutes after to be sat. We sat in an area that was so hot. One section had a fan and we were on the said that didn’t. Our starter came out at the same time as the entrees. Everything was so hot, you couldn’t eat it right away. Our server was nice but never came back to our table except to cash us out. It was my first time here and I was disappointed. Nothing was unforgivabley wrong but for $100 on brunch with 2 adults and toddler, I expected a little more.

Ate here with a group of 4 for father’s day weekend, we tried the charcuterie board, BBQ plates and two seafood dishes and we thought everything was great. And the rhubarb cheesecake and hummingbird cake were good but the rhubarb cheesecake did slightly lack rhubarb taste.
