Zingerman's Roadhouse Ratings and Reviews
Special Occasion was a birthday celebration. I had the catfish dinner. The fish was cooked perfectly. I am not a connoisseur of grits, but they were outstanding, esp since we were not even close to the South. My family had the mac and cheese which has rightly earned its reputation as delicious. Our waitress was great, she made the meal a fun event. And she made it look effortless, too.
Having dinner at the Roadhouse as a "destination event" with time in Ann Arbor before or after is a sure thing.
I always love going to Zingerman's Roadhouse, it is one of our favorites. We had one of the BEST experiences ever. Our waitress Sharon was excellent, vibrant, knowledgable, and just plain fun! Sharon pointed out the stared menu items that represent the current day's offering not something on a regular basis. I chose the pork shoulder with cabbage and potatos. It was amazing! One of the best meals that I have ever had at Zingerman's.
What can you say, it's Zingerman's. The food is great, no doubt about it. The only downside is that its very expensive for what you are getting. The only time I had a bad experience was when I ordered their Black Bean Vegetarian hamburger. A veggie burger at a place known for their meat--I should've known better!! Stick to the classics--mac and cheese, BBQ--and you can't go wrong. If you don't mind the calories, and the empty wallet, Zingerman's is THE place to go.
The wait staff was friendly but not knowledgeable. We had to ask several times to have our water filled.
One of our dinners was very disappointing. There wasn't much on the plate and the potatoe/mint combination didn't work at all. This diner left feeling hungry
One of our dinners was a BBQ, and there was no BBQ sauce on it. This was missed by both the chef and the server.
Service was excellent. For the most part the food was very good. The side of mac and cheese was very disappointing. It was very dry and the portion size was very small considering it cost $9.50. Overall a pretty good experience. I believe a lot of dinners will find the portions to be quit small considering the prices.
We ( my wife, five year old son, and I ) enjoy Zingerman's Roadhouse and Deli very much. We have enjoyed the Roadhouse since it opened and have enjoyed deli sandwiches for even more years. As much as we do like and appreciate Zingerman's we have noticed the Roadhouse seems to be going in the downhill direction our last couple of visits. The pulled BBQ chicken sandwich is still outstanding - great meat, sauce, and bun! While the sandwich was great it is was way overpriced at $17 ( with the sweet potato fries ), especially when you consider the sandwich contains only a small handful of chicken ( unlike the old days when the sandwiches overflowed with meat ). Aside of the pulled chicken, everything else was lackluster at best.
Had a amazing time at Zinngerman's. We were in town for a Michigan basketball game, and thought we might try Zingerman's out. SOOO glad we did, everything was delicious and perfect. Loved that they let you sample things before you ordered! Will be making the drive back just to go there!!!!
The once-vast range of menu choices has narrowed considerably. The Roadhouse has been a favorite place for groups with different dietary restrictions, but the current menu leans hard in the direction of meat-eaters. One of us ordered one of the macaronis and was sorry that she did: it tasted tired. The mixed drinks, though, are still excellent.
Relatively high prices for amped up american food but it is REALLY good american food. Great ingredients, awesome cheese list, some creative preparations, and excellent service make for an excellent dining experience. Only down sides are that it can be crowded and noisy.
I love the Roadhouse and would overall give it 4.5 stars - just didn't have that option on the opentable website. The service is usually outstanding, energetic and friendly. The recipes vary from straight up comfort food made from the best of ingredients to the exotic whcih always sound great although the recipes sometimes work better than at othre times. The noise level and acoustics can make conversation a bit hard for the over 50 crowd but usually is fine. Lighting is just right. The service, as at all Zingerman's businesses is either outstanding or easy enough to make outstanding by asking for what you are lacking. That's probably as big a reason as the food that The Roadhouse has become my go to place. Bravo!
The Roadhouse always has top notch meals and service. If you haven't been, it is quite the opposite of a meal with fireplace and candlelight; always bustling with the activity of well trained staff. The food is made from top notch ingredients, excellently prepared, and somewhat pricey (though you never come away feeling cheated).Highly recommended.
I've always been a little leery of Zingerman's. Have joked that you need to take out a second mortgage just to pay for your sandwich at the deli, but there is no denying the food is outstanding, and at the Roadhouse, the bang you get for your buck was finally worth it for me. Huge portions of appetizers and our main courses. We went with the sweet potato fries and they were big chunks, cooked perfectly. For dinner, the buttermilk fried chicken was as good as I've ever had, and my girlfriend loves the Carolina grits. Terrific service by our waitress and she even brought out a birthday dessert even though my Bday was a week away. Rave review for this spot.
