Zinfandel Grille - Sacramento Ratings and Reviews
We opted for dinner at the bar, since our requested table in the dining room wasn’t available. In the past, we had been happy with the bar service; not this time. The bar -tender appeared to be disinterested in dinner service. Had to ask for bread, had to wait for a drink, had to inquire about when the dinners would be served. There was no inquiry from the bartender as to whether we would like wine with dinner or if our dinners were prepared as requested. (The restaurant was not busy on early Sunday evening.)
As regular dinner guests at Zinfandel Grill we have typically been very pleased with the food and the service. This experience was extremely disappointing. We are wondering if this was a fluke, or an unfortunate direction for future customer service.
This was our first visit celebrating our 35th Wedding Anniversary. Our reservations were for 6:30 but had to wait about 15 min to be seated. Ordered drinks, they brought bread, took order for salads and dinner by about 7. At 8:00 we finally got our dinner. Those seated after us ate and left, our waiter went past several times before stopping to tell us our meal should be out soon, then again later and then again, and again... When it finally arrived the food was delicious. Its too bad our first experience was not what we'd heard we would have. Maybe we'll give them another chance, sometime in the future, just not for a special occasion.
The food and drinks were excellent. Our server was exceptional. She was attentive yet not bothersome or overbearing. The bread with oil and vinegar came out right away - she took the drink order first thing and even stayed at the table while my mom was struggling to to decide on which drink to order. We dine out frequently at top restaurants and this experience was second to none.
We were a group of eight and we were placed in the back room which was a little quieter. We all had excellent meals and Leo was the best server! He was very patient and took his time explaining all the options. He really made it a truly positive experience.
They accommodated our reservation for 10 on a Friday evening with only about 3 day's notice. They were able to add 2 more guests to our table at the last minute. Service was prompt and everyone in our party felt fully taken care of. Great wait staff. And nice ambiance, with a small live jazz group playing all evening.
We have enjoyed dining at Zinfandel Grille in Sacramento many times over the years. It is always a pleasant experience! Plus, it's a great value if you belong to the email club and redeem their $15.00 discount!
Taylor, our server, had a great suggestion with the lasagna special of the day and I really enjoyed it. Their wine list is extensive and not overpriced.
Lunch or dinner, you can't go wrong with Zinfandel Grille. Reservations recommended and they will seat you promptly upon your timely arrival.
After picking my sister up from the airport we stopped by for lunch before heading home. Service was very good (as usual) and our waitress did a good job of explaining the day's specials. I opted for the fettuccine dish, asking that the sauce be "lightened." My sister chose the salmon special and hubby requested the Rueben sandwich with salad as his side.
The pasta was very good and the sauce had been lightened enough to alleviate my guilt for ordering such a yummy menu item! My sister is still raving about her salmon and this is the day after! Hubby commented that his sandwich was great. So, you fed three diners, all most appreciative of your efforts. We'll certainly return.
ZINFANDEL GRILLE CONSISTENTLY PROVIDES GOOD FOOD. THIS FRIDAY NIGHT THERE WAS LIVE MUSIC, WHICH WAS SO ENJOYABLE...A BLUES SINGER AND HIS KEYBOARD ACCOMPANIST.
WE LOVED THE AMBIANCE AND THE FOOD! WITH EASY PARKING IN THE LOT AND GREAT STAFF...WHAT MORE COULD YOU ASK FOR FOR AN EVENING OUT.
The generous Manhattan from the bar was perfectly made. Wine list is good and varied for both red and white. Husband had the pasta special which he loved. I had the nicoise salmon salad which would have been marvelous except for the dressing: it was so acidic, I was unable to eat any of the greens, which appeared to be mostly arugula, fresh and lovely to look at. There was plenty of other stuff included on the salad, so I didn't go hungry, but I'd ask for a different dressing next time, and have it on the side.
Coffee was disappointing. Although freshly made, it was weak and tasteless.
Service was excellent.
We started with the Zinfandel sampler with three glasses of wine from different wineries which was a nice way to start our evening meal. Then we ordered the Sea Scallops and Alaskan Halibut special which were excellent meals. Our service was really quick which was appreciated.
It had been a few months since our last visit to this "go-to" place so we were looked forward to it. It was an early dinner as a medical appointment we had ended much more quickly than I had guessed it might. The young woman who checked us in indicated there would be no problem seating us despite how early we were.
We both had the pasta with chorizo, clams, and prawns. While it was tad greasy from the sausage meat, it was very tasty and we both finished the entire thing.
When we got the check we were quite surprised that coffee was $4.00! Many four-star eateries charge between two and three dollars, so this was a bit disconcerting.
All in all, though, we will be back.
My husband & I had a $15.00 off dinner coupon, and when we got there I gave the coupon to our waiter. He took it, came back after he had taken our order and said that the coupon said we had to order 2 drinks in order to get the $15.00 off. I asked to see the coupon, it took over 5 minutes for him to bring it to me. When he did, I looked at it and it did say we had to order 2 beverages. However, looking at the coupon, it was not the entire piece of paper I had printed out that day, it was torn, slightly worn in the middle of it where it creases after being folded, the expiration date had been slightly scribbled on, and something had been written & scratched out at the bottom right corner of the sheet of paper the coupon was on. It was all very suspicious looking, and my name WAS printed on it, but was still very suspicious. I think he was trying to create a higher bill for a bigger tip. Next time, if there is a next time, I will read the entire coupon carefully & and take a picture of it so it's on my phone. So, beware of your servers at Zinfandel Grill on Fairoaks Blvd. and pay attention to your coupon.
One place can't be everything to everyone, so what I'm about to say is by no means meant to diminish how great Zinfandel is. Their menu is creative and interesting, the food excellent, and the service top-notch. We went because they had live music, and the band, JAZZ GITAN (I have no connection to them), was fantastic.
Now the negative part: I wish that the menu had more vegan options. Almost everything has meat and/or cheese and/or seafood. Again, they're good at what they're good at, and I respect that. But in a place like Sacramento, vegan options are not an uncommon request.
I love Zinfandel anyway, but they really kicked up their performance on what happened to be my birthday. The special of the day was a veal dish that resembled the veal picatta my mother used to make me for my birthday every years at my request. (Yes, I was a spoiled child).
This entree was absolutely delicious! My friend ordered the same thing and we shared a Caesar salad which was as close to the original recipe as you can get, although I do love the ones with the whole romaine leaf. Most Caesar salads in Sacramento are not even close to the original recipe. They tend to substitute mayonnaise for the coddled egg and do other funny things with it. For dessert we shared a creme brulee which they do beautifully and they included a lit candle for my birthday which was great. I also appreciated that they didn't sing the birthday song.
The service was outstanding as usual. After all these years, Zinfandel continues to be consistenly great and reliable. I love Zinfandel!
Local neighborhood gen with predictably good standards from the avocado crab salad to the salmon and penne pasta. There are interesting specials but this time we had a later than normal arrival and missed the special lasagne. The music trio is an unnecessary addition . Service is very good with people who know their job and seem to enjoy working with custoners
Made an on-line reservation with Open Table, and received a confirmation. But when we arrived, the staff had no record of the reservation. No big deal this day, since we were early and the restaurant was not that busy. But it demonstrates a potentially major systems failure.
