Another great experience, my order was incorrect but they got my correct order out quickly and comped my meal, which was very nice.
Great Vegetarian restaurant approved by meat eaters!
Wait staff was charming and friendly but a bit forgetful, we had to remind them on 2 occasions that they had not brought us a couple items we had ordered. But, aside from that we enjoyed our brunch at ZINC.
Didn't notice that the menu was vegetarian when we made the res, but was very pleasantly surprised when we gave into the "no meat" idea and dove into the delicious menu. We want to go back now, just to try a few other items that we thought sounded good.
We went to Zinc Cafe when we visited LA. Excellent vegetarian food. Great ambience.
This is a very cool place, with a number of different dining realms. We opted for outdoor dining since it was brunch. The ambience was wonderful, the service great, and the food outstanding. As our first foray into the Arts District, we were a little unsure of what to expect on our drive from the freeway to the restaurant, but as soon as we saw the building and terrace, we knew we were at the right place. Need to come back Bar Mateo: looked very cool, but we would have never left had we started with Bloody Marys at 11:00 AM! But we will be back!
One of those out of the way gems, lousy part of town but an oasis, very surprising to see such a vibrant place in a location like this. They even had a celebrity! Food is excellent. We ate in a quiter back bar room but looked out over the well shaded patio. A great Saturday brunch!
Nice vegetarian restaurant, always nice to try something different
Beautify view, yummy food
Food was excellent, as was the atmosphere - but our waitress seemed more interested in cleaning the table and moving us along (when we could get her attention) - even though we were there for less than an hour and the restaurant was not full - she lost out on a bigger food and drink order - as well as tip.
Delicious food and drinks! Beautiful restaurant - perfect brunch spot!
Fantastic veggie food in downtown LA. I had a delicious Thai salad. The drinks were fab. And the service was strong. This also a great place for pets on the patio. And great for brunch. Go go go.
Wonderful vegetarian restaurant with extensive indoor and patio seating areas; lots of light and very smart, clean decor. Full bar. All the dishes were uncommonly tasty, well-seasoned and artfully presented. All staff are very capable and friendly, and the owner came by the chat for awhile, which was very nice. A real find in the Downtown East Arts District.
I have had brunch, lunch and dinner at Zinc and all three meals were within a two week period because I loved the food so much! It's fantastic that there are so many choices, especially as a veggie used to fewer choices and not great food. Zinc is excellent! Brunch was good but too crowded. Lunch was amazing--a cornicopia of tastes in a multitude of salad choices. My favorite was dinner. Olives and almonds in a tasty rosemary oil, artichokes with a zesty sauce, tostadas with fresh veggies and pizza with veggie sausage and crunchy (I forgot the name of the I have had brunch, lunch and dinner at Zinc and all three Experiences were all within a two week period because I loved the food so much! A cornicopia of dozens of tasty, hot and cold salads. Dinner was my favorite. We had tostadas with fresh veggies and spicy pizza with veggie sausage and a crunchy veggie whose name escapes me at the moment (senior moment:). Good wine and really great outdoor patio in the middle of the restaurant. How great to have delicious food and a quiet and peaceful place to talk and share-- no TVs and no blasting music-- just blissful food and conversation!
I'm a strict non-vegetarian and I love Zinc! The burger is better than the real thing.
We were a group of 8 for Easter brunch / breakfast. Loved the location of this place as well as the feel and design of it. Food was good (vegetarian!). Service... not so good. They were not busy and didn't seem understaffed but it took asking to get service and more asking to get more service.
They need to work on their service if they want people give them 5 stars and /or return.
The food was a bit on the salty saide and the price was a bit up there for the food what we got
I LOVE this place. It's the one veggie place I can take carnivores and still have them leave super satisfied. The food is delicious and we always receive great service.
I am a vegetarian, but my husband and son are not. No issue... we all love the food here. Fresh and inventive we are never disappointed.
Perfect for a day in the Art District. Good value; food good-very good. Martinis $15, wine more reasonable. Lovely outdoor space; bar/dining room art-filled and cozy despite size. Good service on a Sunday night.
I always enjoy the food at Zinc which is why I have come back different times since it opened. The outdoor patio is wonderful as well. Coffee is great. The dishes are well thought out and presentation very good. The one drawback is the disorganized service. I thought as they matured it would get better. Not happening. As usual you have 5 different people bringing something to your table and one doesn't know what the other was supposed to do. I ordered an omelette with toast and no toast appeared. 10 minutes later voila....toast! Then the first server shows up again 15 minutes after bringing the food with another order of toast. They would provide a much happier dining experience if management could train staff to work with their layout and menu better.
Salad bar service and checkout should be expedited for diners in the restaurant.
Our server was fantastic. Good food, outdoor seating was charming.
I was surprised by the atmosphere considering the neighborhood which has more of an industrial feel. Feels clean and has a good vibe. Loved the hummus appetizer and the coffee I had. Ordered a grilled cheese and chili soup, but could only eat my soup as it was deliciously hearty. Noticed they have a large enclosed area adequate for meetings.
Coming from Italy I appreciate outdoor restaurants, and this one has such a pretty garden that I can easily forget that we're not in a posh club of Milano: decades old olive trees (someone said 70 years old), a zen fountain, bulb lights streams.. It's really nice. I would go there just for the place, which includes a gorgeous cocktail bar with original artwork and wooden beams, and a market with the best cookbooks and home design items -but Zinc also has a delicious and understated Mediterranean/Californian/Mexican menu which is surprisingly all vegetarian! I just love how they don't advertise that it's all veggies - you find that out when you're there and enjoy the food without any labeling. They also make pizza in a wood burning oven - impeccable crust. This is definitely a place for foodies! Such a great discovery, and and and they have a happy hour Mo-Fri with all appetizers half-off! Really fun. You can have a super dinner with wine or beer and literally spend $15. So great.
I love the food and drinks here. The service was pretty below par and very slow but it was worth it for those chilaquiles! and that guac! And those fries!! :p
Lovely physical space, friendly service, fair prices but rather ordinary food.
Zinc has some great laid back places in Laguna and corona Del mar. I visited the one in solana beach for a decade. The new restaurant in la is a step up for the owner. Very well designed setting. Great vibe. Servers and staff were very friendly. Food is excellent. Continuing its reputation. However the serving staff is in desperate need of training if this restaurant is going to survive You simply can't leave guests sitting after serving drinks and not coming back for the order until the guests wave you down. Oh but btw you're server has changed and there is a new person. Oh and yet another person to take our dessert order but once again requiring active hand waving etc. so this kind laid back attitude may work in Laguna. But not in La where the service standards are higher. John you can do better. Get a professional manager and train the staff
Overall the food is delicious and the atmosphere is great with a market intact and an espresso bar for togos and everything else. Only downfall is that the service was horrible. The host didn't understand that we had a reservation nor was the server attentive. Total downfall but still would try this place again... Just with a different server and another night due to inconsistency with hostess
