Zinc Bistro & Wine Bar Ratings and Reviews
Daniel was perhaps the best server. He was friendly and attentive. The portions are perfect. You don't need a doggie bag and you don't leave feeling guilty. The food is superb. I came back after 15 years of remembering how special this place is. It did not disappoint. I literally came back to San Antonio so I could bring my husband to ZINC. finally, three words: prickly pear margarita.
Amy, our server was excellent in navigating the delicious menu. She also gave us touristsy ideas that were very helpful. The duck wings were crunchy and excellent. The Texas chopped salad was amazing and the lamb past was yummy comfort food. Okay the truffle fries were worth the decadence. Wine by the glass was excellent and the the prickly pear margarita was fun. A definite go back to restaurant
Located close to the riverwalk, Zinc had good food for a much more reasonable price than some other restaurants in the area. Food was good, service was a little slow - I didn't receive my wine until after my entrée had arrived, and even then I had to track down a different waiter to get my wine. Other than that, great experience. Will definitely be back.
We were a bit disappointed. We booked a reservation online and mentioned it was our Anniversary. When we arrived, we were seated at table next to a door that the wait staff used about every 30 seconds. I should have asked to move outside to the courtyard, but didn't. Our waiter was kind but not attentive and approached our table with sweat dripping from his forehead. We had to ask for refills on our drinks. Overall, the food was great, but the lack of attention to info/requests and the waitstaff was less than desirable.
Our group of friends traveled to San Antonio for the Alamo Bowl, and I was given the task of making our dinner reservations. My friends just had a few requirements: fabulous food, great ambiance with casual vibe, and on our walking route from our hotel to the Alamodome. I had been to Zinc on my last visit to San Antonio (springtime which was great for sitting on their lovely patio!) so I knew it would fulfill every requirement but perhaps being on our route as I could not quite remember the location. I was so pleased to discover it was only a block from our hotel and on the route. My friends were so very pleased with my selection. We started with the Boudro's tableside guacamole which was extra tasty and moved on to delicious entrees. Three of us enjoyed pleasant wines from their very good selection. The fourth member of our party enjoyed the prickly pear margarita which she declared as the best cocktail she had had EVER! Our table was ready when we arrived, and the service was prompt and professional and never hurried. It was a most enjoyable dinner, and each of us hopes to return.
Visiting from Chicago, and being "Foodies" we heard about this from a local Lyft driver.
Looked up the menu and photo's on Yelp and booked a table for 6:45pm on a Thursday.
Seated upstairs was nicer as you can see more of the upper building rafters and it feels warmer there. The food is exceptionally good, my wife and I agreed it was the best Italian we had eaten for a year or more and also the best meal we experienced in our 3 night visit to San Antonio.
The fire station must have been outgrown by the city as it's only a one engine type and is just 7 minutes walk from the Alamo. The staff was exceptionally polite, knowledgeable and helpful.
We recommend the grilled octopus, which comes with chickpeas and a pesto sauce, the chickpeas complement the marinated tender octopus ... Fantastic!
Wine selection was good, we opted for a Russian River and a Sonoma by the glass.
The parmesan coated, grilled lamb chops were perfectly done and had a nice sauce.
We can't say enough about this place, we would've returned to try other menu items next day but it was our last night there, back to snowy Chicago.
I scored this Italian restaurant as high as I could 10 out of 10 in my book, competes with any in "Little Italy" section of Chicago, and priced much more reasonably. We shared the eggplant dip, a salad, the octopus, lamb chops, a dessert and four glasses of wine and got away with $130 ... Try that in Chicago!
This was our 2nd visit but our last. Though the food is pretty good for value purposes, the menu selection is limited and the service was terrible. Our waitress literally did the bare minimum to be called a server. She took order and dropped off food. But we were never checked on. My husband ordered the steak, so it's customary to ask how it is cooked. She never did. We were never offered a 2nd round of our adult beverages, empty dishes and beer bottle sat on table, water was not refilled without me asking, etc. I also asked for our two children's meal to be split on two plates and she said no "due to preserving presentation". Let me tell you the presentation, it was fish and chips dumped into a paper cone. Really? The place needs server training and a few more entree options to improve.
We went for Christmas Eve dinner and had a very pleasant experience. The waitress was attentive and friendly, but not to the point to be intrusive. The food was exceptional and the price point was super affordable. Everything about our night at Zinc was perfect. Can't wait to go again.
We were there for Christmas Eve, an exceptionally busy night, so it was probably not the best time to judge the overall quality of the restaurant. The management was very nice and accommodating. But of the six meals that came out of the kitchen that night, all six were cold. The rare and medium rare and well done meat were identical. The salads, which had a nice, savory flavor, had just been tossed on the plates and did not look appetizing. So while the ambience was pleasant, the food was mediocre at best. I might try it again on a less busy night when the weather allowed dining on the pretty patio.
We visited Zinc Bistro and Wine Bar as a group of 6 after seeing a concert at the AT&T Center. We arrived early for our reservation and they still worked to accommodate us so that we wouldn't have to wait. Our entire table ordered cocktails or wine off the extensive list, and each and every drink was deemed delicious. The ambiance was really nice - we were seated in a large open dining room with exposed original brick and large tables. The food was delicious and the menu had excellent variety. I would especially recommend the fish and chips or the Devil's River Lamb Burger. I would definitely recommend this for anyone looking for an upscale dining experience without having to pay an upscale premium.
Stopped by here for dinner before heading to a ballet show. The reviews about the food did not disappoint. It..was...amazing! We really enjoyed our server, Carmen, too!! Both were the reason we went back for dinner the next night. The food is very creative and packed with flavor. I had the lamb burger that tasted like a rack of lamb. My wife had a salad, but it wasn't a regular salad. Both had layers of flavor initially, while chewing, and on the finish. Carmen also suggested wines that paired perfectly with the meal. On the return visit, we had the table side guacamole that was delicious. We are very happy we found Zinc!!
Pleasant surprise. We were in SA for a short weekend to celebrate our birthdays.
Decided on reservations after seeing the Zinc was considered "romantic".
Food choices were limited, but it was good.
Our server, Angela, was a sweetheart and tried her best to accommodate us.
Disappointed that our birthdays were not even acknowledged?
What was the point in asking if we were celebrating something special?
Overall nice date night.
I have visited Zinc many times - both for drinks at the bar and for dinner. Always good food and service - except for tonight. Main course arrived mid-way through the appetizers, so we ended up juggling plates and sending starters back half finished. Never very good, but coupled with the implication that it was somehow my fault - unacceptable. Wait staff with an attitude needs to be looked at.
The historic building, itself, is special alone, but the interior design of Zinc is so inviting, way cool, and comfortable, from the rich colors and art. We loved that it was easy to get to, off the river walk, and a parking garage right across the street. We dined indoors but the outdoor patio is lovely. Daniel took care of us very professionally, kind and so impressed my husband with his knowledge of craft beers. Our warm appetizer was delicious and perfect for our group of 4. Entrees included crab cakes and fish and chips(crispy cod). We will return and pass on to friends. Thank you Daniel and Zinc Bistro!
PS The sangria was so good!
Wow! Only a few were at bar when I arrived at 530pm for happy hour but quickly got packed and I know why....everyrhing was wonderful! I decided to order a few, appetizers for dinner! The 2 alarm hummus was, recommended by my hotel staff and it did not disappoint! The escargot and duck confit wings were also amazing! Happy hour (4-6pm) has most appetizers and specialty drinks half off! Service was a little slow at first but then as they got busier, they were in motion! Oh, I took another recommendation and tried the Prickly Pear Margarita (I am visting Texas) and it was worth it too!
We first ordered the Parmesan truffles fries as an appetizer. I knew right then the food would be amazing. The crab cakes followed. They all crab and not fillers. Two came in the order and I was stuffed with one. This place is off the beaten path and not on the Riverwalk, but worth finding it.
Our first trip to San Antonio and someone recommended this restaurant. We are so glad they did! There were four of us and each of us raved about our food. It was a perfect night out. I will now be the one recommending friends to eat here when coming to San Antonio
We sat in outdoor seating, which was a little cold. Some outdoor heating would have made the evening perfect. The outdoor area had a very nice atmosphere, perfect for special occasions. The food was outstanding. The waiter was very knowledgeable about Vegan considerations and helped us find some delicious options.
Saw an episode earlier that day with Tanji Patton, so I thought we'd try it before a show on Saturday night.
Nice looking bar where people were drinking and eating , the dining room was nice except for the restrooms that face diners as you go in or out (could use a partition there)
The food was delicious and great for the price.
All in all it was a great place!
