zinc@shade Ratings and Reviews
Lunch during DineLA, prix-fixe, with great choices. The food was delicious, the presentation very nice, the service wonderful, great value. We ate on the patio, outside but in the shade, quiet. The "Kobe beef" burger with cheese, mushrooms, onions was great, and the fries were perfect, maybe the best I've ever had.
The evening started ok, but the waiter disappeared for what seemed like 10-15 minutes after we were done eating. We would have ordered another drink or dessert but we were annoyed and went someplace else. The supporting wait staff was attentive but couldn't produce our waiter or provide a reason for his absence.
The first couple of times I visited this place, the food was quite good. There were three of us this visit and we all had different dishes, but none was outstanding. The menu seems very limited ... not much of a choice ... The best part of the restaurant is the ambiance ... very well decorated. The waiter was very pleasant, funny and attentive! That was a plus ... but I think I will try some of the surrounding restaurants the next time I am in Manhattan Beach.
Fun and delicious brunch menu, lovely outdoor patio seating and a friendly well trained staff. Really, I’ve been there several times for brunch and they aren’t all over you every second but are strangely there when you need them....it’s a pretty neat magic trick
Overall, the experience was good. They left off a seat for our reservation but quickly added another so everyone could sit. There were a few larger parties the night of my reservation however, it still took close to an hour before we were even able to order food from our server. Thankfully, the food came out quickly once we placed our order and it was really good.
They also have a birthday deal where you are able to purchase a bottle of alcohol for the price of whatever age you are turning, no more than $39. For instance, you're turning 29, your bottle is only $29. Worked out great for our large party as one of those in attendance was also celebrating her birthday.
Would most likely go to again for a special occasion.
We went for lunch and ordered the dineLA menu. Both of us ordered the truffle burger medium rare. While mine was cooked properly, my friends was overcooked. We didn't complain to our server but as she walked by she said she noticed that one of the burgers was well done and if we'd like to have another one made? We told her that it was fine, not a big deal but when she brought us the check she said she
I choose this restaurant for my birthday celebration with my birthday club (wanted to try a new place). The staff was so nice, the food was great and the seating was nice too! I also appreciate the personal birthday card and dessert they presented to me. Just a lovely time had by all! I've already shared the experience and friends intend to visit!
We went to zinc to celebrate my birthday as a group of eight. It was all of our first time eating there, despite being Manhattan Beach residents, and we were able to make a same day reservation that saved me tons of hassle. We sat outside at a large table and ordered shared plates and our own individual entrees. I enjoyed my salmon and the appetizer tacos were divine. I had a delicious margarita and a few glasses of wine, both were very enjoyable. They even accommodated to us bringing our own homemade cupcakes and putting candles on each to serve, but it seemed like they didn't get that request very often and were somewhat confused by it. Overall, I had a great time and would definitely go back.
We had a wonderful time at Zinc. I ordered a drink called Fire and Ice and it was very tasty and interesting. It had Jalapeno in it, a nice kick. Our waitress was terrific. She was informative, cheerful and wasn't pushing us out the door. She knew just the right time to come around and check and also left us alone to enjoy each other. The portions of food were generous as well. The snacks could be had as whole meals or definitely for sharing.
Great place, I would recommend it.
Canceled reservations on that morning. Called and no one answered so I left a message. I was taking a friend out for her 40th, but got a call earlier in the week sayin we would have to sit in lounge because they had two big parties, so my friend wanted to go somewhere else.
I have to say that I have been a patron and fan of Zinc@Shade for 10 or so years now. My fiance' and I went recently and it was a very disappointing night. I often go for weekend brunch, or maybe stop by for a drink, we're local, and often meet a group of friends and couples there. We made an 8pm reservation, when we arrived, the restaurant was fairly empty ... sadly, as much as we asked around, it took about 15 minutes to get seated, yet they acted so surprised we were even there. We had a very friendly waitress ... but here's where the less than perfect things happened. We placed our order, a bunch of apps, tuna/crispy rice, a pizza, chopped salad, and lamb chops. Our dinner was ruined when everything came at once! What we hoped to be a leisurely relaxing Saturday dinner, turned out to be a food bomb rush. Try enjoying lamb chops while they're hot, tuna while fresh, pizza while hot, and then taking on salad when your full of pizza ... it was pretty bad. As nice as our waitress was, she seemed to not really know how to handle the mistakes, the worst part, the manager came to check on us, and when we asked him, "what's wrong with things"? He said, "er, ah .... looks like everything came at once"?. He was nice and polite, but barely apologetic and he was pretty much, I need to get out of here and not deal with this uncomfortable. Not that he didn't care, but he didn't seem to care ... We smiled and said the food was delish, but impossible to eat four things at once coming in a hurry. He said, "he'd take off the salad off our bill"? He did end up taking off the salad, and a round of drinks, but honestly, it was such a bad experience, we barely ate anything ... most of it was tossed in the trash. We go to Zinc, Strand House, have stayed at Shade many times, they treated us like chopped liver. So much for local loyalty? They should have been much more apologetic and comped out meal. Food was ok, it's hard as a loyalist not to give a great review, but a bad night.
Went to zinc@shade for breakfast with my daughter and we were a bit disappointed in our meals. I ordered the Shade Omelet. It was flat and dry. I think there was supposed to be cheddar cheese in there somewhere? There might have been a hint of cheese in the omelet but not much more. My daughter had the Egg in a Roll and she said it was rather bland. However, on the bright side our Bloody Mary's were very good and so was the service. I've been there before for dinner and another time to have drinks. Both of those occasions were better experiences than breakfast. Might have been an off-morning for the chef.
Shade has good food, a good location, and friendly personnel. Perhaps too friendly. Various personnel continually come by and talk during much of the meal. The high tops and chairs are good, but the "garden chairs " are uncomfortable, especially for anyone taller than 5'10". There are four restaurants in the plaza, and only Shade seems to be empty or barely occupied most of the time. Too bad. The bones are good, but something is missing.
I found this place on yelp, and was a bit skeptical at first, i didnt have a chance to go to the venue before hand and we all know how that goes.
My guests were arrived and seated before me and in pleased to say everything went perfect they worked with my needs and requests and were all so kind.
The menu is affordable regarding the area it is, Manhattan is kind of upscale so i was pleased with the end result thank you so much to the zinc team for making my night memorable ❤️
While some of the food was quite good, it was just not worth it for the LONG wait and excessive noise. There was a lot of movement as if they were setting up for or taking down an event. If we had known it was a bar, we would have chosen somewhere else. As a bar, the music was okay and the crowd quite small. I guess this is what happens when you try a "restaurant" in a hotel.
We had a great time sharing small plates and wine. The Brie and Pear Grilled Cheese and Kalbi Tacos were excellent starters with our cold, crisp Nobilo New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc.
We also greatly enjoyed the fresh Marinated Heirloom Tomato Stack and Smokehouse Pizza with its Chicken Habanero Sausage.
The experience was enhanced as we sat on the airy covered patio. It was quiet and romantic. However, another time would have been fun in the lively bar area. Many people were drinking fun cocktails and wine in the comfortable bar and lounge area with the energetic music.
The waiter was attentive, informative, and helpful.
Brought some business friends here for a midweek dinner after eating the reviews, but was disappointed. First off, the rooftop bar was closed, something that should be mentioned on the website since that was a deciding factor for me. The menu was a bit limited, but what we ate was good, just not great or worth the drive.
