The food was good however the service was horrible, staff was horrible. not friendly at all, noise level was Outrageous we could barely have a conversation it was so loud. the wait staff used your finger to wipe off something on my bread plate before she handed it to me. Very disappointing.
Way to noisy. Ceiling is completely flat and it projects sound through out restaurant. Some panels were installed but does nothing and is a poor man attempt to fix noise problem. We had to yell at each other just to compete with the rest of the crowd. Better of making it a bar.
Buzzy, casual, friendly, generous portions of popular Italian dishes. Roaring winter fire. Tory, our waitress was tentative and good fun. We will return when next in the area.
This was our second visit within two weeks. We had a reservation, arrived on-time and were asked to wait until the party at our table left. There were several open tables at the time. During the wait we saw people come in after us and be seated right away. We were not seated until we asked the hostess to clarify why we hadn't been seated yet. Once seated the service and food were great. The noise level is very high.
A family/couple favorite. Stuffed Eggplant, Veal Parm, Veal Marsala and the Meatballs are excellent. The Roasted Garlic and Goat Cheese appetizer is the best! Servers are friendly, restaurant is accommodating. Prices are very reasonable. The Peanutbutter Cheesecake is the best way to finish an excellent experience at Zia Maries!
We tried Zia Marie during Virginia Beach Restaurant Week. The special menu selections were great. Service and food quality was great. The noise level made conversation difficult.
The best thing about Zia Marie? It never changes. Same friendly wait staff (Chelsea is wonderful), same comfortable laid back vibe and great chalkboard menu! A neighborhood gem in Chicks Beach that will not disappoint.
Try the balsamic portobellos if you haven’t had them. Great start to a wonderful evening!
Love this restaurant! Love the chalkboard menu, simple! The food is delicious. I tell everyone I know about your restaurant, as you serve authentic Italian food .
We haven't figured it out: was it a slow kitchen night? was the restaurant understaffed? Whatever happened, we had the slowest service ever last Sunday night. Our waitress was apologetic but the wait time for each dish seemed endless. The food was good and our family enjoyed being together but when it takes 20 minutes to have water brought to the table, there must be a breakdown somewhere...a confusing night.
Birthday dinner for daughter!! Awesome service
Two pieces of silverware not clean. One had greasy smudges, the other had caked on spinach. Didn’t bother to verify correct number of place settings.
Server was overwhelmed by dealing with children and tracking our to go boxes.
Did not come check on us during meal.
Handed two plates, one for a small child, over simultaneously, and was confused when I only took one at a time.
Despite all the above, the food remains top notch... they just need to tighten up their operation a bit.
Fantastic food and service as always. My wife and I love Zia's and enjoy eating there on special occasions as well as the random weekend night. I would reccomend reservations as the place and fill up quickly.
It was a Friday night and they were extremely busy - took quite awhile to get our food. When it arrived it was good - pasta was warm but not hot. That said was the food good? Yes. I’ll gladly go again.
The restaurant is very noisy but not sure what you can do about that. Large crowd and everyone is having a great time - it’s naturally going to be noisy.
Finally - the service. In a word - superb. We were admiring the great work of the wait staff. Very efficient. Our waitress was very pleasant, helpful and efficient.
Food was excellent as usual, but always seems to be to busy for the servers. Long time in between the server coming back to ask if we need anything
Had dinner at Zia Marie’s 2 weekends in a row. The food is outstanding.
Fantastic Restaurant! We dine here for every special occasion.
Dinner was outstanding , service was
A plus, and red velvet cheesecake is
Really great food!! We went at 7 PM on Valentine's day and the place was packed. Fortunately, we had a reservation. Service was very good despite our server getting food spilled on her and having to take time out to get cleaned up. We had the goat cheese with roasted garlic appetizer, split a Caesar salad and both had the Linguine Bianco (linguine with clear clam sauce) entree. The goat cheese appetizer was amazing, in size, quantity and taste. The Linguine Bianco was delicious and the portion was quite large. Our server was friendly and efficient and she took good care of our needs. I wouldn't call Zia Marie elegant, and the noise level was pretty high since they were packed, but if we lived closer, we'd be back often because this is the kind of place every neighborhood would love to have. The overall experience was top notch.
Amazing hidden Italian spot great for am memorable first date or Valentine’s Day dinner.
Zia Marie is our go to place for a great dining experience. It’s worth the drive from Hickory to Chick’s Beach.
Best consistent Italian around! The small neighborhood feel is perfect for a group or intimate dinner. We love to have family celebrations here!
As always, the service was great and the food was even better. We love Zia Marie's and will be back soon. Thank you for a wonderful evening with good friends and good food.
I would recommend this restaurant because the food was delicious. I wouldn’t recommend them to go on a weekend night nor will I ever go again on the weekend.
Service was great, we brought friends who had never been. They loved it as much as we do. It was Saturday night they were packed, but we had a great time! Thos is one of our neighborhood go too's!
Would eat there five nights a week if I could. Excellent food, service and location...
Favorite pasta in Hampton Roads. Great food and service. They were very accommodating to my wife and I bringing in our 2 young kids. Thanks again! We will be back soon.
We came for my daughters 25th birthday and it was such a fun evening!!! This is my “go-to” place on date night too!! I always enjoy coming here.......don’t think I have ever had a meal or beverage that was not delicious!! Victoria is an amazing waitress and I highly recommend Zia’s!!
Great ambiance and attentive service. Greek salad and pizza both excellent.
As always, we were treated like family and the food was outstanding!
Zia Marie's is a quaint out of the way and off the beaten path place of dining. The Italian cuisine is authentic and some of the best in Virginia Beach. It is a small restaurant but with a homey feel. Because of the small spaces it is not a place for a quiet meal. The atmosphere is what you expect of a local establishment. I would recommend it to anyone. The Shrimp ala Vodka was superb. We are looking forward to our next visit.
Way to cold like the heat was broken. Also, too loud when trying to talk to waitress. Food was good with good size portions.
Service was pretty good. Had to crane our necks to read the menu based on where we sat, but that wasn’t really a big deal. Food was pretty good, too, and definitely worth the price.
We ordered goat cheese and roasted garlic as an appetizer- always wonderful. Cocktails are reasonably priced and always made to perfection. Clams blanco, Seafood stuffed shells and spinach lasagne (much better than the mystery meat lasagne) - perfectly prepared and delicious.
Friendly service that makes you feel like family and the food is great!
The food was excellent... the service was okay... the waitress was not friendly at all. Very matter of fact ... dropped off and left without asking if we needed anything... not one smile.
This place never disappoints! Even when the place is packed service and staff, as well as the food are all on point! Highly recommend this amazing gem.
Service and food outstanding, as usual! The food at Zia Marie's never disappoints.
Zia's is always a dependable place to dine -- food is always well prepared and delivered hot to table.
It was my first visit. I’m not certain but I think perhaps the waitress forgot to submit our order into the kitchen. Other dinners who arrived after we did received their food. We waited one and a half hours! There were 4 of us and one person’s food was luke warm. It was a special occasion and the poor service detracted from it
