Zeus Cafe Ratings and Reviews
You can feel the love and care the moment you walk in. The atmosphere is warm and homey, with an old-time charm. Don’t let that fool you—the food and wines are all of superb quality. We were blownawayby the delicious gourmet dinner. The chicken and the baby greens with goat cheeze salad were out-of-this-world! Loved also the wonderful signature cocktails. Amazing place!
We went to Zeus for my 16-year-old's birthday. The menu was perfect for that--decent wine list for me, burgers for the kids, good adult food choices for picky eaters. We were there in New Year's Day and were grateful they were open. The food was tasty but took a while, and my entree was on the cold side. They forgot a couple of drink,s but I think because they were exhausted from the crowds of the night before. The servers were very nice, even recommended Ruby Jewel's across the street because they were out of a lot of desserts (also from NYE!) I would return to Zeus, mainly because it is a good place to come to when you have people with different tastes to please.
We were celebrating New Year’s Eve and both had the New York steak dinner which took forever to get. I️ think the kitchen got overwhelmed and the reservation system was bogged down. People for some reason or other didn’t think to make reservations and were put off you couldn’t accommodate them. Some customers were extremely rude standing behind our table and making nasty comments. That is definitely not the restaurants fault. The staff seemed a bit disorganized. Overall, we still give Zeus Café 5 stars and highly recommend them.
Normally we receive good service but our server continuously forgot us. Brought us coffee and we were ready to order, but she didn’t get the obvious. She was too distracted and overwhelmed it seemed like and left us hanging but eventually we got our order in. It was after 10 am and New Year’s Eve so we forgave the inattentiveness.
Nice McMenamins' restaurant, eclectic as always, small but with a warm ambiance and moderate noise level so you can talk over dinner! We had the bacon-wrapped trout, which was outstanding; my curried cauliflower appetizer was way too spicy for me but was replaced with wood-smoked brussels sprouts without question. Limited but good wine list; our Ken Wright pinot noir was excellent and went well with the trout.
I loved coming here before but the last 3 times has been very disappointing. Service is amazing though...best servers! The food has only gotten progressively worse. Chilaquiles super soggy! Korean breakfast and rice dish super saucy and salty. Will probably not be coming back to this location.
Saw this place near our restaurant and looked good on reviews. We sat outside on beautiful night. Service was a little slow to get in gear. Steve our waiter gets a shout-out for getting it rolling. Beet salad for app was very nice. My husband had oyster shooters which he said were biggest he's ever had. He had pizza for dinner which was really good. I had two apps together : grilled prawns and wood fired broccoli. Three big prawns with very yummy salad around it. I'm still dreaming of that wood-fired broccoli (and other vegs) dish. Deliciously grilled and seasoned and served.
My husband and I met friends here for a great outdoor dinner. Fun to people watch from the sidewalk table. We had great service, never felt rushed, and in fact, they were willing to accommodate us by holding a table inside in case outside cooled off too much.
We have eaten here several times and the menu has lots to offer so we often try new thing when we go. We'll definitely be back.
My husband and I went here with our parents/grandma. It was pretty quit, but it was also a Sunday. Some of the main plate were small, but for more of an upscale restaurant I'd say it was average size and price. My grandmother got what was more of an appetizer and I would have considered it more of a full meal. She was very happy with it. My father and I had the Portland dining month menu, which was different, but pretty good. The duck I think was a little over cooked. The rest of the family ranged from the chicken salad to the tuna, which they enjoyed. I would try them out again.
Came here the first time during Portland Dining Month. I had a preset 2-course meal which was quite good. My scallop and uni crisp was fresh but the potion was on the small side. The duck breast entree was delicious and of a good portion. Dessert was a semifreddo and more of a afterthought. Not a bad value.
We were there for a special occasion...drinks, dessert, coffee, tea and the atmosphere were great. Dinner was not! I had the pork belly and it was awful! They were nice enough to comp us the meal...
I would recommend the truffle oil fries...sooo good. The menu is eclectic not to our taste for sure.... would go back for the atmosphere and for the fries!!!
Breakfast was good also....try the biscuits!! Yum!
I was cautious on my first visit to Zeus Cafe due to previous reviews. As it turns out, I needen't have been concerned. No, this is not a foodie paradise and in several visits my service, while friendly, has been sporadic but if you are looking for a satisfying meal outside of a chain diner, these are small considerations. The location can't be beat and the people watching, thanks to three sides of large windows, is wonderful. A qualified thumbs up here. Good, and sometimes that's enough.
We were visiting from out of town and initially booked the Zeuss Cafe because it was in the neighborhood of the Crystal Palace where we had tickets to see Daughter. The location was great and the ambience was good. We enjoyed some drinks during happy hour and the server was attentive and let us know that dinner would start at 6pm. When our dinner selections came, the steak I ordered was cooked very rare and I had ordered medium. My friend said her salmon was the "fishiest" she'd ever had. I sent my steak back to the kitchen. About 15 minutes later, the server came by to ask me what temperature I wanted my steak cooked to.....I just stated that I wanted it to be pink in the middle rather than raw and red. She left and another 15 minutes went by before my order was returned to me very well done. By this time, my friends had eaten their meals and I had eaten all my truffle fries. I ate the well done steak and my friend ate her fishy salmon, but we left feeling like the meal was overpriced for the portions and the quality of the food. Also, the steak was a dark color, served on a dark brown plate with dark green arugula sauce. Not a very compelling presentation.
I wish OpenTable didn't list this place.
Around 10 minutes after being seated by the hostess, a waiter told us the kitchen wasn't taking any orders for the next 20 minutes. He offered no explanation or even coffee, just a panicked shrug. I can understand a slight wait time, but we felt like we were being asked to leave because the staff was mismanaged.
Great food and ambiance, but some of the worst service we have seen in a restaurant. We had at least four different servers (we lost count), but no one seemed to want to acknowledge our existence. Orders were lost, plates were left on the table, no one asked us whether we wanted more drinks, had to hail the server to order dessert, etc. The surprising thing was that the restaurant wasn't that busy and the kitchen itself was very fast and served great food. Something's going on with the front of the house. If you are willing to be patient, you will have a fun time.
