Zeus is one of my favorite Portland restaurants. All friends who have visited me ask to return to Zeus for brunch. All meals are great, but brunch is one of a kind and my favorite brunch place.
They were understaffed. Noise from the kitchen made it hard to have a conversation. Food was a bit overpriced for what was served.
This is a great spot, near everything, with fine food and service. Nice views for people-watching, and quiet enough to have decent conversation. This is one of our go-to spots for lunch or dinner.
Nice menu options. You can share small plates or have your own main entree. Very good food and service was very friendly and efficient.
Breakfast here was so-so. Got a mushroom & goat cheese scramble. The eggs were mushy and watery. The potatoes were a bit too salty. The toast and jam were good. Service was a bit slow considering they weren’t busy as all. Dinner and service the night before on New Year’s Eve before was excellent.
New Year’s Eve dinner. Good food, service and excellent drinks
We went to Zeus Cafe for dinner on Christmas, because a couple of our family members had fallen ill and we canceled our plans. The ambiance was wonderful and the food was good - problem is that my burger & fries were near cold when received. Sort of a bummer. Seemed pretty uncoordinated with dishes left waiting and getting cold when it really wasn’t that busy. Will make me think twice about going back.
We had a lovely last night dinner on our trip to Portland at Zeus Cafe. My husband got the burger and fries, both delicious and I got a yummy pizza that was cooked perfectly, chewy/crunchy dough and flavorful. I looked up the menu online before and was set on risotto but it wasn’t on the menu at the restaurant so that was a bummer.
Try not to get a table by the door on the corner...that was a little annoying, otherwise it was great.
The kitchen and bar are open in the middle of the restaurant with tables lining the windows on the outside. Since the building And windows are old, it was cold and we wore our winter coats (along with everyone else) the entire meal. We were there for thanksgiving. The staff seemed unhappy and we observed several tense moments between them. We were there for a prefixed meal for thanksgiving, the traditional dish was good and dessert was so bad neither of us could eat ours. You might have a different experience on a regular night but I wouldn’t feel confident recommending them for a holiday outing.
We had an excellent dining experience at Zeus Cafe. The food was delicious and the kitchen was able to (cheerfully!) accommodate the dietary needs of our party. We dine out quite a bit, and the service we received from the wait staff was phenomenal. This is definitely a fun spot to dine with friends and family while having a great culinary experience!
It was a nice evening, with good food and service.
Horrible service. Don’t know where to begin. The waiter didn’t bring our before dinner drinks and when we asked she said she was getting to it. We had ordered soup as an appetizer and French fries to go with the entree. She brought our before dinner drinks with the French fries that were supposed to come with the dinner. So, we cancelled the soup appetizer. When we told her not to bring the soup, she told us that we didn’t tell her we wanted it first. Obviously in her mind it was a customer issue not a server issue. Apparently, training on what to serve and when is nonexistent. The lack of flavor in the dish (clams) is another story, but you get the idea.
We had brunch on this visit. The vegetarian scramble was tasty, and the Bloody Mary was excellent. Fun atmosphere, as with most McMenamins restaurants and bars. Good, friendly service. Nice spot for food and drinks.
The restaurant was not that busy but the server was very helpful and attentive but not too much. The food was good as was the choice of beer
Loved every bit! We picked up some bloody Marys and headed to the soaking pool to start the day. Came back for breakfast and had super yummy coffee served in the cutest cup set. My cheese grits and veggie scramble we're savory, rich, and satisfying to say the least. Friendly helpful staff that set a relaxed pace to our visit. No need to rush through a beautiful experience! Can't wait to come back 😊
Mother's Day brunch at Zeus cafe was great. Metro location and first time visit. Promlt, accurate, friendly staff...and good food too.
Great food friendly staff
Excellent service in the traditional McMenamins funky atmosphere. More upscale than most McMs, and the food and service reflected this. Always a fun expereince at any of the pubs and properties!
I love this place for breakfast! Usually not too busy and when I bring in a group I can get seated on the back side for less noise. Our server was fantastic overall, but we did have to wait a bit for some requested items. I think he was running both sides of the restaurant. Food was great!
Food was amazing. A creative and tasty brunch menu
Way too expensive for what you get. Definitely NOT $$ Unless you consider just the entrees. A small burger was $17. Just the burger. Ok but not great. A bison steak $21. My son ate it with no comments. All ala cart even bread is extra. Beet Salad was fabulous and worth the dinner. Evening Waite staff was less than friendly but were efficient. Morning staff was great.
Great atmosphere, top shelf food. You can't go wrong with this choice.
Just walk away! Very far away!
Salmon was over cooked and so was the steak. Food took almost an hour and some was definitely cold. Did breakfast as well and the food was also slow to arrive and the two Benedicts were definitely too tangy and had a really bad after taste. Wouldn't recommend.
Nice Christmas dinner menu; excellent service.
I had a reservation for Saturday night, but we were seated in the bar area. We did have a booth next to a big window . The ambience was good , but that is where good ended . We could not get service . It took a very long time for the waitress to come to our table. It then took equally as long for our beers to come . We decided to leave and get our dinner at Jake’s across the street . We lucked out and got a table .
We went there to enjoy a meal after a movie on Thanksgiving. August, our server was very personable and took great care of us. All of the staff we encountered were friendly and made sure that we enjoyed everything.
Such a refreshing experience on a holiday!
Thank you !
Staff was friendly but food was subpar. Also, the reason we went was for the Bloody Mary that they no longer sell. They should change the advertisements.
Everything was very good except I was surprised to receive 3 scallops for $22 with no sides or even a piece of bread. That seems pretty out of line for a meal at a McMenamins. Next time I'd go with the hamburger.
Went to Zeus Cafe for Sunday brunch before a 2 pm PCS matinee performance. The food was delicious and they offered quite a good selection of items to choose from. We had the coconut pancakes, seasonal scramble, smothered and covered and the Zeus Benedict. We enjoyed it all! If we could have eaten any more, I would have tried the Zeus biscuits and gravy. But unfortunately, we just couldn’t eat another thing. We chose the cheesy grits as sides on several of our plates and they were wonderful. I will definitely be going back!
All good, but largely ala carte menu makes it pretty expensive.
The ala cart menu adds up to a wildly expensive meal. Food was nice, but way overpriced. Go across the street to Jake's and get a great meal for the price.
We love anything McMenamin‘s and when we stayed in downtown Portland for my husband‘s 65th birthday I surprised him by inviting longtime friends from pretty far away. They all thought the long drives were worth his surprised face and the good food. Our waiter was exceptional, new everything about food items and made interesting and well received suggestions. This is a casual place but that didn’t stop us from dressing up a bit. The windows looking out on the city streets enhanced this special experience.
Good food selection, fun atmosphere, enjoyed breakfast with family
We thought we’d try the “good” McMenamins restaurant that doesn’t have the same pub menu as most others. Our expectations were not high, and were not met. The better dishes we had were ordinary. The worse ones (pork chop) were bad enough to leave mostly uneaten.
I have always loved the Zeus Cafe and the "different" menu items they present! This time however the food fell way short of just "OK", the chicken was burned, the burger was well done when we asked for med rare, the noodles bland and not too much to them. The service was spot on it was just the food that was awful. They adjusted our bill without asking by comping our beverages which was nice and comping the burger but the birthday girl was still stuck with a $13.00 bill for a burned chicken sandwich ans still hungry....this probably isn't my favorite McMenamins restaurant any longer.
Cool building and hotel. Brunch is great but dinner has been pretty average the past two times we have been. Smaller portions and a little speedy for what you get. My wife got a cocktail and that was great. We got fries that were cold and the main proteins were small.
I think the experience was a one off. Have eaten here several times as we have been frequent guests at the Crystal Hotel. They were throwing a block party and seemed woefully unprepared. I would normally give this higher marks in all areas. I would say go but check their calendar for any events. McMenamin’s is not new to throwing events so it was surprising how sub-par this evening turned out.
Took a minute to find the door, because the only signage above it said "bar," and I hadn't expected it to just be a table in a bar (which is basically all the "cafe" is). Walked in- there were only 2 tables with people at them, and it was very quiet - no one seemed to be enjoying themselves. Based on the location, time of year, and time of night, that was already a worrying sign.
That combined with the cloyingly sweet and greasy "generic chain restaurant" smell in the air to get my stomach hurting already, but I thought maybe it was just me, and thought I'd give it a shot anyway. After standing there a while (looking around long enough to be sure there really wasn't another door to the "real" restaurant) I finally saw a server come out and asked if I was in the right place- he affirmed it, then said to check in at the host stand. Which he had to point out, because for some reason it was on the exact opposite end of the room as the door. Went over, someone showed up to help me, got checked in, sat down, got a menu and some water.
Glance at the menu as I'm drinking my water, and- something bumped my damn lip. Set it down, and sure enough- big chunk of what looked like some sort of vegetable matter. At that point my stomach hurt too much to ignore any more and I "noped" on out. Felt better as soon as I got outside in the fresh air, recouped, and had a nice relaxed dinner somewhere else.
An excellent breakfast spot.
