This summer, visit our new venture with Cape Ann Brewing Company, Under the Hops. I ordered a burger rare without the bun and asked for extra greens. I got a pathetic looking well done dry burger and a few pieces of lettuce, slice of tomato and some pickles; not even close to being worth the $17 price. I asked to get something else and was not charged for burger. The Hyatt used to have the most amazing salad bar and good tasting selections but have done away with it. The menu never changes, the quality of the food is fair.
Of all Hyatts I stayed in, and dined in, this is the far worst. We stayed there overnight from Saturday to Sunday for the family gathering, and had an early dinner and breakfast the following morning.
Dinner menu was extremely limited and food quality was mediocre at best. Bread was not brought to the table until we asked. Bread plates were not even offered, until we asked. Sword fish was hard to touch, accompanying broccoli was over-salted. Short rib was just "OK", nothing special. But red potatoes with it were so hard, as if it was prepared a day before. There was no ice cream, and the restaurant manager found the leftover scoop of vanilla to smooth our disappointment. Thank you very much. Servers were not neat at all, the uniform was not at all Hyatt-like.
Next morning breakfast was again a disappointment. Egg station was manned by two chefs, one of them was an apprentice who tried to do his best. The other simply grab omelette condiments with his hands - very unsanitary and really a turn off.
I should mention that the place is quite expensive - $100 for two of us for a dinner and $50 for two buffets for breakfast. But because there is nothing else in a close proximity, the restaurant gets away with this. If only it were like I'd expect from Hyatt!
Had the Bolognese which was very good. Also I recommend the Bourbon Negroni. Had two of those with dinner and thought they were excellent.
If you're staying at the Hyatt Regency Cambridge, where Zephyr is located, there is a nice bar as well that is nice to stop by on your way back from a night out.
We arrived for a 7:30 reservation and waited about 10-15 minutes before being greeted. They had the number of people in the party wrong and then had to find us a new table. While the food was overpriced but good, the waiter rarely came over and we couldn't get their attention when we needed.
Food was ok. For the price which is about the same as the great choices in the local area, you would expect the food to be better quality but it is far from it. Very slow service even with only one or two tables.
Only positive is the view of the Charles. Very disappointing that the manager Tim told us that they are not seating people at the empty exterior seating (young daughter was freezing in the ac so we requested outdoor seating) because of the season/too busy/ only seat people there for dinner. 30 minutes later a table of three was seated right outside of the window we were sitting in front of. He offer a BS half apology and that was all. Will never go back because of this. You can deal with ok food but terrible service is unacceptable.
I know you're tempted to go here because of the view. Let me save you your time and money and tell you that the view isn't all that great and that's all this restaurant has to offer. The food menu is mediocre at best, restaurant itself is like an old hotel lobby, and the service is poor (we reserved a table and staff didn't honor it). In addition the to the lackluster experience, the restaurant wages 2 additional fees (fees for tables over 5 people and hotel fee). Overall, the overpriced menu, poor quality of food, views, and service ranks this as a mediocre location to spend your evening/afternoon. Plenty of other restaurants with a view that are better than this, listen to the reviews on here- trust us! (We wouldn't take the time to write it unless we meant it)
Unfortunately, I wasn't as impressed with the food as I had hoped, the menu was different than what I read online (smaller selection, less variety), and the wine glasses were small. The service could've been better also, but I'll chalk that up to (possible) inexperience. Finally, I made my reservation about 30 minutes beforehand, to ensure we had a table. It appeared to me the fellow who sat us took (very slight) offence to that, saying the reservation was made 15 minutes beforehand and he almost dropped us as we were 5 minutes late.
Could not have been more disappointed. The menu was online, yet I was told, in a voicemail message shortly before I was about to leave, that the meal was a buffet because the kitchen was closed on Saturday ..?! I thought that meant a good, nice, decent buffet, but it was like going to a school cafeteria, the food was awful, the soup was cold, and the desserts were nearly inedible. It should have been an embarrassment, if anything, for them to have this -- I mean, I am talking about egg salad, American cheese, potato chips .. really?? I was flabbergasted, and beyond disappointed.
I went alone for lunch. Server was friendly, very attentive, came by regularly to refill my drink without having to ne asked, and was timely with the check.
I was told that the kitchen was under remodel and regular menu wouldn't be available for any meal (breakfast, lunch, or dinner) for the next 2-3 weeks. Buffet was lackluster and was comprised of bread, cold cuts, salad items, and soups. Clam chowder offered was great and the sandwich I built was fine, but overpriced at $16. Hotel garage parking was validated, which was nice.
Tables on the left side of the dining room have good views of the river and skyline. Some seats have an obstructed view, but I didn't check the views from the bar. Overall it was an overpriced lunch with a nice view. Might come back when they get a kitchen back up and running.
Decidedly mediocre and overpriced. The clam chowder was very light on the clams - mostly broth, and over salted. The Bolognese sauce on fettuccine was served far too hot and was heavy on the palette. (I tend to order Bolognese on pasta as I travel) My wife's burger was adequate, but she left hungry. Two tables away an older woman, travelling alone, was giving her server an earful about her dinner - which apparently was cold. As hotel dining experiences go, this was about a 3.
I will say that our breakfast experience was far better - both in terms of service and food quality. THough the price was high and portion small, it tasted good!
3 of us went for Restaurant Week. Food was so-so - tasty but nothing I couldn't make at home. Wines were outrageously expensive (a $7 bottle selling for $9. a glass) and service was mediocre.
The restaurant has great views of the Charles and downtown Boston but I would never bother to go back.
(Was having surgery at MGH the next morning) Pleasant Hostess, waiter very busy. However, The Food was delicious, We chose the Dine out Boston Special, had the steak over potatoes, but seriously could not eat the dessert, too full. Restaurant itself could use a facelift... Dingy, carpet was old and a bit dirty, Windows were dirty if you are looking for a view? Ummm might want to clean up the outside tables, some Tables still had plates on them.
Love this place! We sit outside on the deck, overlooking the Charles River, and because the hotel is pet friendly, we can bring our dog. Food is delicious, and there is something for everyone, especially for my vegetarian daughter. She had a bunch of options!!! Great place!!!
We were in Boston for an event. I have a policy of not eating in hotel restaurants when at all possible. However their advertisements were enticing. The food was not horrible, but the service was. Waiter was the only one in our area, not very attentive and the portion size was small for the price point. I should have stuck with my policy.
