Used to be great. Wasn’t this time. Hopefully just an “off” early evening.
Food was horrible. It has gotten really bad. The sushi menu is very short. All the fish was old and fishy. This is a basic hotel restaurant now. Service was horrible as well, and very slow.
No doubt about it, this is a truly outstanding dining experience. I'm a Brit who spends a lot of time in DC, and food-wise I found this to be right at the top of what this city has to offer. If you like Japanese food this is certainly worth trying out
My date and I decided to come here based on the reviews. When we got there we decided to do the all-you-can-eat array of different menu items. It was 4 or 5 groups of food and dessert at the end. We had an amazing time sampling our way through the menu! Definitely recommend.
Surprised to see 20% service charge added for a small party of 3. Food had either too much sauce or too little. Kuidaore was not up to expectation. Too much carb and not enough fish.
Need better service
Disappointed by the service at this venue, which cast a shadow over everything else. For instance, I had to wait for over fifteen minutes for new chopsticks while I watch two servers (not so subtly) fight over who would get to serve a table of two young women. I can't blame them for this, but just wished they were skilled enough to flirt AND provide decent service.
Uneven quality of food. Sashimi was superb. Makisushi, not so much. Robata strong, but sauces a bit too overpowering. Attentive service, but because it was empty, I felt a bit rushed. Start to finish in 70 min.
Dined here with my parents for Restaurant week while they were visiting. My dad can be a very picky eater and he really enjoyed himself, bravo Zentan!
The food was all very good - we did the restaurant week menu in which we got to choose 6 small dishes between the two of us. We also got miso soup and garlic edamame, and finished with 2 different desserts. It was just the right amount of food and the flavors were all different and distinct. The seabass and scallop dumpling was my favorite - the sauce it was in was creamy but extremely light. The server was very helpful in drink choices, helping us find drinks that suited our tastes. It was a little chilly but otherwise, the atmosphere was good. It was nice to see there were smaller tables on the outer edge of the room for some quieter dining, and larger high top tables for groups. There were 3 sections of the restaurant so it was split up well and wasn't too loud.
Went to Zentans for restaurant week since we loved them when we went there last time. Both of us are vegan but they were able to easily accommodate us. The smoked eggplant is absolutely delicious, just as I remembered it. This last time though we left feeling as we got much less food for the time before, and were still feeling hungry.
We each did the restaurant week menu and shared 8 small plates and dessert. We both did sake flights which are super fun and great to progress through the different sakes with the different dishes.
The food was absolutely incredible so kudos to the chef. The service was exceptional as well...if you go here ask for Namgay (Namy). She did such an outstanding job and really took care of my partner and I. Also, while you are here try their wide selection of sake (we had this milky looking one which Namy suggested). Their whiskey passion fruit cocktail was also amazing. Overall this place far exceeded our expectations and we'll be sure to come back. It's all small plates/sharing style so don't be afraid to try items that you otherwise wouldn't normally. Don't be afraid to trust your server since they'll be able to better guide you. Keep in mind they have had the chance to try all items on the menu. Thanks Namy you gave us an unforgettable experience <3
WONDERFUL food, beautiful atmosphere. Great service
The food had little to no taste. Not exciting at all. The waiter was very courteous.
Average sushi in central Washington
Everything was A-Mazing! Our Server was incredible, food was divine - only the slightest of constructive criticism was our server seemed to disappear for long periods of time in between courses. She might have just been giving us uninterrupted discussion time, this was a combo business meal / friends catching up - so since everything was amazing, I'm going to give her the benefit of the doubt. LOVED IT! and will go back.
Sake flights were wonderful. Great food and new cocktail specials!
Thank you. Great meal and excellent attention from wait staff.
Stay away. Lots of other great sushi restaurants in town. Awful. Overpriced. Old fish. Waiters with attitudes. Totally overpriced. Uncomfortable seating.
We had the Kuidaore meal. It was one delicious course after another. There was nothing that missed the mark. My one piece of advice is go hungry. The service was very quick, polite and unobtrusive. Great experience.
Food was delicious. Menu selections were diverse. Outstanding customer service.
Don't make any reservation or put any special requests. Walk in like you are going to Burger King; cause you will be treated like you are in one. Your weater will smell like beer and weed, no kidding!
Good food , slow service, nice enough restaurant.
Fantástica comida y fantástico trato. Recomendable 100%
Absolutely scrumptious! We tried so many dishes and particularly enjoyed the Brussels sprouts, wagyu beef, rock shrimp, maki rolls and cod in broth.
Excellent Asian fusion, big choice of small plates, very reasonable prices, nice drink menu, comfortable and easy for conversation. Menu is creative and practical, divided so you can navigate salads, grilled food, maki rolls, etc. We like to do a course of salad and grilled food, then a course of maki. Perfect place to have a leisurely meal with drinks and catch up with friends.
The ambience and services at Zentan was great. However, the food was ok and would not recommend the Sushi. Not a place I would go again. There are a lot better sushi places around the city.
I arrived about 20 minutes before the kitchen closed, and I was still served well and greeted warmly. My server was very informed about the menu and sake ‘tasting’ options. It was lovely! I ordered the polished rice sake trio.
I ordered the gyoza, lamb, and pork small plates. The presentation was beautiful.
My only regret was I did not come earlier so I could experience kuidaore!
I was intrigued by the focus on basic Japanese fare in the menu, but disappointed by the meal. We stuck with staple items such as miso soup, makizushi and nigirizushi. The food was acceptable but unremarkable.
There were a lot of younger couples and large tables making it slightly louder than normal. The food and service were great, but the noise level was a little high.
Only sushi we could find open on thanksgiving. Fish could have been fresher. Ambiance was nice. Service was outstanding. Restaurant was a bit cold.
The food is always excellent and the service is very pleasant
Had a 6:30pm reservation. Wasn't crowed at all and service was quick but then it got busier and the service finished as well as the ability of the kitchen to produce...took over an hour for sushi. The duck and steak skewers were medium rare which is not my liking. I loved the creativity and the harmony of the dishes in the past...loved the pineapple sushi. Sadly the pineapple sushi is no longer an option and on this adventure the harmony and the creativity wasn't as impressive. The staff has all been relieved and new people in including management and I felt the quality has dimished. I come from California to eat at this place while visiting the last two occasions, but I don't think i will on the next visit.
They were missing a lot of stuff on the menu. Food was decent but the sushi rice had a lot to be desired. The service was ok - friendly but not too attentive. We still had a good time and enjoyed our lunch.
We loved our meal here. Tasted from the various categories and everything was tasty, somewhat unusual, fresh and very good. Even the desserts which we did not expect to be special, were indeed that.
The food was unexpectedly delicious. It was a last minute reservation and we had not heard of the place. We were all so pleasantly surprised! Great food, great drinks! Wait staff was very nice!
Best Japanese food outside of Japan! Service was stellar too.
The food was good. The waiter did not write down our order, and therefore forgot to bring us one of the dishes. We did not bother to say anything about it. The prices are a little high for what you get. There are no large plates, just small plates. I am accustomed to getting a "small hot sake" in a carafe, but here they call a small hot sake a "glass," and a "carafe" costs extra. There are only western style desserts, nothing Japanese (e.g. beignets instead of red bean cake). The beignets were delicious; but it's an odd way to end your Japanese meal. It's a sleek, stylish atmosphere. I did not like the music - too modern and thumping. It should be more soothing. Still it was an enjoyable evening, and we were not rushed through our dinner.
