Zen Restaurant in Alameda, CA is an Asian fusion tapas eatery that opened its doors in 2008. The restaurant has a warm and cozy atmosphere thanks to the red and black dining area, which features Asian lanterns. The overall feel of the restaurant is modern but very inviting. The eatery blends cuisine from Japan, Thailand, China, Korea, Hawaii and Italy.
Some of the options on the menu at Zen Restaurant in Alameda include fresh oysters, baked salmon, spicy edamame, gyoza, enoki beef, rib eye and salmon tobiko fried rice. Zen Restaurant in Alameda has dessert options as well, including chocolate molten cake, fried bananas with ice cream and tempura green tea ice cream.
Many attempts at fusion cuisine fail. This one is a complete success. Expect the unexpected.
We had a fantastic time with our niece and 14 of her friends when we took then here for her 16th birthday dinner. Tiffany and her staff we're wonderful. The service was attentive and the food was fabulous. Most of our guests hadn't been to Zen, so this was a great introduction. A few of the parents stayed for dinner so the rave reviews passed both the teen and parent test.
We're looking forward to going back!
Good spot for brunch, plates are very small to medium sizes.
Family run business with Japanese/Asian/California fusion food. Always some tasty daily specials at great prices. Small plates make a great meal, so much so that only on last visit (3rd), did I turn over the menu to realize there's a whole lot more!
If you love food with an Asian fusion flare, Zen is the place. It's located off Park Blvd but is very easy to find and parking is not a problem. The waitstaff is friendly and helpful. We have never had a dish that we didn't love, our favorite dishes are pork belly sushi and the Asian fries. Can't wait to get back.
We had a party of 11 and the restaurant was overwhelmed. The food all came out at different times and late. In fact, they even forgot to about two of the entrees until we were ready to leave. The food was bland and very average. The food is overpriced for what you get, and most of the what they call tapas were kids size meal. Case in point, the pizza was 5 inches in diameter, tasteless, and soggy -- worse than a frozen meal. Highlight was the cocktails were decent. The ambience was nice so I had high hopes walking in, but was sorely disappointed with the food and lack of service.
Menu is Japanese fusion with many interesting daily quirky specials. Truly excellent execution and service. With reasonable wine and sake list, could not ask for better. Worth a special trip
Zen has an eclectic and interesting menu. The culinary influences must come from 4 or 5 different cuisines. The food is good, the presentation is stylish and prices are very reasonable.
Great place for brunch. Looking forward to dinner there at some point.
I was worried about this place at first because of the location, but everything changed after my first bite. i have spent way over a hundred dollars for me and my girlfriend at other places trying to find the best food. At Zen I spent only 86 something for so much food where some foods piquant and others succulent, just everything we ate was appetizing. Let me not forget to mention appealing, so looks and taste fantastic.
