Zehnder's of Frankenmuth Ratings and Reviews
The chicken they are famous for is ok but if you try this place you MUST order a side of fried liver & onions...GREAT!! The liver pate, cheese, liver & onions are worth the trip alone the main dishes are just a bonus. Maybe they will put the fried gizzards back on the menu but for now the liver & onions will do!! Can’t wait to go back!
The food is always good, but this time I would rate the service as only fair. The main problem I had was the amount of food that was brought to the table for the family style dinner. There were eight of us but they kept bringing servings that would barely feed two. We had to ask several times for all of the courses to be refilled. I understand that they don't want to bring an excessive amount as that would lead to waste. However, at 23 dollars a plate, it seems they could be a little more generous with their portions. I wouldn't have even minded that as much but there was always at least a five minute wait between requesting a refill and receiving it. I know that doesn't sound like an awful long time, but there was at least an additional five to ten minute wait after the server would bring the food before we had an opportunity to even request a refill. Still though, this is one of my favorite places to eat and would recommend it.
This restaurant has a "Member Reward" card that allows people to have a free dinner during the month of their birthday. My husband and myself both have January birthdays, so we are able to eat there for "FREE". I like to go to this restaurant during other occasions as well, as there food is GREAT!!
Everything was exceptional from the reservation to final tab. Our reservation seated us 10 minutes early. The server was
friendly and very attentive. The meal is like
the delicious home cooked meals at “Grandma’s House”. Real food prpared and
served with no additives. Delicious, clean food served in a homey atmosphere. Well worth the drive and money. We had a lovely time.
The food was great. The chicken and butter noodles were amazing! The service was good overall, but the server could have been a little more talkative and friendly. Also, when we made the reservation it asked if it was for a special occasion. It was - we indicated it was our daughter's birthday - but the server never mentioned it or even said happy birthday when we told her.
Zender's is a great place to go when in Frankenmuth or for your birthday. Join their birthday club for a free birthday dinner. The prime rib is huge and always cooked perfectly. You can not beat the appetizer and sides. I know people who have moved to Florida and come back just to go to Zender's.
It was my wifes birthday so we decided to spend the celabration at Zennders. Staff was great from greeter to server. We choose the buffet and it was just not as fresh as the chicken dinner meal. Chicken was dry, and the noodles were very soupy. Next time dinner option of chicken might be the best. With 7 people and a bill of 200 dollars. It was disappointing. John Scigiel 9
I was not impressed at all. I was under the impression that they had great Fried Chicken. That is not the case, it tasted like something you would get out of a frozen food section of a grocery market and put in the microwave. The only thing that I did enjoy was the bread it was my first time there and it will be my last. The service was good but the food was nothing of what I expected.
If you're looking for a quintessential Frankenmuth experience, Zhender's restaurant will give you what you're looking for. The restaurant is beautiful and the service is exceptional. The food is a bit bland and basic, and I found myself wishing for green beans or a salad just for a different color on the table. Frankenmuth has a reputation for having wonderful chicken dinners between Zhender's restaurant and the Bavarian Inn, but they may be cutting corners now, and they are completely overcharging for that reputation. The menu of chicken, mashed potatoes, buttered noodles, white bread, cole slaw, garlic toast, squash, & cottage cheese was comforting but in need of flavor. The ambiance is what makes the experience now.
