Zeffirelli Ristorante Italiano
KNOWN FOR ITS BEST VEAL CHOP IN THE REGION
Please see our Valentine's Menu at
Awesome dinner. Best veal chop known to man.
From the appetizer to the dessert ,it was top notch. Service is impeccable. What a gem in Herndon!! I will definitely comeback.
Excellent food. Very good Service. Best Veal Chop I have ever had. I have traveled the world and this place is one of my favorites. Any time I am in the area I make sure to have at least one dinner here. I love the Veal Chop and all my friends and clients who have tried it say it is worth it. Friends have had the swordfish with crab, veal porcini, veal scaloppini, eggplant parm, and everyone really enjoyed their meals a lot. Absolutely worth making time for. Very close to Dulles if you are on a long layover, grab an Uber and have a great meal.
Whenever we are in northern VA on business, we make it a point to go to Zeffirelli's. So recently we were a group of 10 for dinner and made a new crop of fans for this restaurant. Several had the signature Veal Chop and couldn't stop raving about it the next day. Food is always delicious and well prepared. We appreciate the fact that meat entrees come with some vegetables. In so many resataurants of this caliber, one has to pay extra for the veggies. Portions are generous, but not oversized. Salads are easily shareable as are the desserts. Service is attentive but not intrusive. Great place for business dinners or dates as one can actually carry on conversations easily.
Have been coming to the restaurant for over 20 years, always great food and service, very friendly and professional. My Daughter's favorite dessert, the Tarimisu, apparently was made using a different recipe from prior years, she definitely prefers the original, but overall it was a great experience. I also not in the reservation that it was my Daughter's birthday and while we had a very good table reserved no mention was made of the occasion. Wasn't a problem, just letting you know.

Great Italian food (and this is from a Jersey boy). Awesome bread too. Very important!
we had a wonderful meal. My crabmeat stuffed mushroom appetizer was a treat, along with Saltimbocca Alla Romana - It's nice to get good Northern Italian food here in VA. The room is being refreshed with new paint, updated lighting which is so nice.
Looked forward to a new restaurant for us, especially one rated highly. Special Mahi Mahi was excellent; veal scaloppini was tough and dry; ravioli was tasty; escargot was a disappointment with the same pesto sauce used on the ravioli. Tiramisu was bland - very little coffee flavor; chocolate gelato was good.
Mixed impressions about the restaurant. Waiter not very attentive; owner was hustling to make everything work.
We’ve been going there for years and order the veal shank every time and leave there dreaming about our next visit. This time the food was sub par, cold and not very flavorful. The chairs are so old that the springs in mine were caved in and I asked if they would kindly change mine out. Which they did but that chair was the same. Our waiter also took his time taking our order. For what we spent, we feel we did not get our money’s worth
Never let's you down. Consistently good. If you're a foodie, you'll be happy here, and you can have a decent conversation without losing your voice. Well worth a visit.
Good service and food zzzxxzzzzzxxxxxxzzzxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Always very fine Italian pastas. Superb veal chop!!!!!!
Had a fabulous dinner. This is one of the best Italian restaurants in the DC Area. And that is coming from a full blooded Italian from New Jersey. Will definitely go back again. Ray L.
Incredible food, wonderful staff, fantastic ambiance. What more could you want?
The food was good, but the place seems out of dated. and not suitable for private conversation.
It was our wedding anniversary, but I did not make any special request or I did not know how to make one
Took my dad who is hard of hearing but a real foodie. He has a hard time enjoying restaurants if they are too loud. Zeffirelli’s has a quiet ambiance that made it easy to chat while eating. Food was amazing as always. Service was great. We will be coming back.
Wonderful signature veal chops. Excellent seafood. Outstanding service and food presentation. Really good bread.
White tablecloth and cloth napkins, but not fancy. Good Italian food - pastas, chicken, seafood. Really good salads. Just a nice neighborhood place for dinner with friends.
I have been dining her for years. It never disappoints, the food is always excellent and they have a terrific wine list. The service is spectacular.
Old school Italian. My colleague was sad when we told him we were eating Italian, he only thinks pasta when he think Italian, but when we left, he was singing a completely different tune!
As to be expected, their olive oil is top notch and delicious on the homemade bread.
I had the Linguine con le vangole and it was possibly the best I have ever had. One colleague had the pappardelle and the other had chicken marsala, they both raved.
Service was great. Location in old town Herndon is convenient for a business lunch and all around, it was a terrific meal.
Fantastic food & service this made it a wonderful evening.
Food is very good, and presented very nicely. Wait staff is excellent and very attentive; without being overly so. Atmosphere is pleasant.
The food and overall atmosphere was very enjoyable. However, I felt that my boyfriend and I were treated differently due to our age. We are in our early twenties and the service we received was notably different from the service that other tables with older guests received. When we arrived we were not given a wine list, greeted by our waiter, or given any water. It was 10 minutes before
a waitor came over and filled our water glasses. I know that does not seem like a long time but this waitor was clearly specifically assigned to fill up water glasses and the restaurant is not a large space (part of the charm). I watched the waitor refill and fill other tables several times before he gave us any attention. Then after 15 minutes we were finally greeted by our actual waitor (not just the waitor who was filling up water glasses). When I say greeted I am being generous because the only thing he said was “are you ready to order”. He did not read us the specials as he had done at the other tables or ask us if we wanted anything to drink. At this point my boyfriend and I had enough time to look over the menu so we were in fact ready to order but I asked him to bring us the wine list so we could order our wine first. After he returned with the wine list we then ordered our wine, appetizers and entrees. There was a long wait on the wine and finally our appetizer came out to the table (still no wine). I don’t understand why the appetizer was brought to our table before the wine because the dish was a cold dish and he could have waited and brought it out after or with the wine. The rest of the meal was thankfully uneventful as the waitor only returned to our table to ask us if we wanted the check. The service we received would not bother me if we weren’t at such an “upscale” place however I expect the service to be half decent when I am spending $100+ on a meal. Would I recommend Zeffirelli’s to my parent’s and their friends, yes. Would I recommend it to anyone my own age, no.
Awesome homemade Italian food. Great wine list and exceptional service. Francisco was a wonderful server that offered many ideas and terrific wine pairing. Gracious folks from the time we entered the restaurant. A definitive return before weeks end.
The food was amazing! I’m so glad that I found an excellent restaurant without traveling to DC. I HIGHLY recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves Italian food!!!
Great food. Decent value. Okay service. Too many loud kids.
It’s tough to find a place that’s quiet enough to talk but with good enough food to satisfy my family. Zeffirelli’s delivered! We took my 94 year old mother (5 of us total) who was in town visiting. We couldn’t have been treated better. Pablo and the crew were awesome, as was the food. All salads were fresh, greens crispy, and dressings very appropriate to the kind of salad. The Veal Chops were outstanding, as was the salmon, veal saltimbocca, and shrimp scampi. Bread was warm and fresh. The tiramisu was light and oh so tasty, and the chocolate gelato rich and creamy. And the best of all, we felt like extended family to those who prepared and served us our delicious meal. We will be back.
Disappointed with the branzino. It was not a whole grilled fish. The chicken parmigiana was very ordinary. Service was excellent though
We've been to your restaurant since 1995,food is not getting better.
Too man tables.
This restaurant had been highly recommended by someone we know, but we found it to be just good. The only dish that was very good was the sausage appetizer. I'm of Italian heritage, and I'm usually disappointed with sausage in Italian restaurants in the US, but this sausage was excellent. The dish was supposed to have peppers, but they were hardly there. The entrees of seafood over pasta were good, but nothing special.
The service and the food was excellent. The atmosphere was romantic and the waiter was very knowledgeable about the food and wine menu.
Outstanding restaurant! We were seated right away. Service was excellent--attentive, not pushy--good suggestions for wine and food. Food was superior. Octopus was wonderfully grilled. Veal chops were excellent. Grouper special was superb! My husband is an excellent cook and doesn't like to eat out often because he can usually cook whatever we order better than the restaurant. Not the case here! We will definitely make it a destination place to visit.
One of our very favorite places to dine. The service is outstanding and the food-delicious.
Food choices are varied and enough for all taste.
Great food, as always. Maitre d was very welcoming; however, our server was the worst we have experienced at this restaurant (one of our favorites and in our neighborhood). We finally had to ask for a menu after waiting long after we got our drinks. We also had to ask if there were any specials (there always are) and ask for him to describe them. Very disappointing and very different from our usual experience. I will consider it an anomaly.
What strikes you about Zeffirelli Ristorante, when you walk in, is a welcome mix of professionalism, tradition, and a blending of a touch of the contemporary. I made a reservation, for 1, and was promptly seated. It was a Tuesday night and they weren't full, yet had a healthy seating of customers. The wine list was impressive, yet I opted for no vino. The menu was well-balanced and had such tempting traditional options, I hope to return (I do not live nearby). I settled on a Caesar salad, followed by Vitello (Veal) Saltiboca alla Romana (with sage, provolone, covered by Prosciutto) and an accomplishment of linguine in marinara sauce. The Caesar was (refreshingly) well prepared and flavorful, unlike so many bland salads restaurants pass off as Caesar.
The Saltiboca alla Romana was magnificent. The blending of flavors, between cooked sage, provolone, Prosciutto, and the Veal (with a savory lite sauce) was masterful. My linguine was perfectly al dente with a delicious, yet not-to-heavy marinara sauce.
The bread you are served (in the beginning) is both traditional Tuscan, and Foccacia. I confess, I used the Tuscan bread to devour every last drop of the veal sauce!
I was too full to have dessert. My loss, as the dessert menu is some of the most captivating reading I have read this summer!
Lastly, the wait staff was professional, well-timed, and accommodating. Admittedly, the prices lean toward expensive, yet (in my opinion) you get what you pay for (it is the "total package."
I have been to this restaurant many times, consistently great Italian food , great service.
