Had a large party here with 15 people and the service was outstanding. The food was excellent and came very quickly. Fantastic experience.
Three of us were pleased with their food, the forth had a bland plate of noodles. The taste was fine, but it was barely more than noodles - she had asked for no onions and apparently that would have been the only vegetable. I had fresh-water eel, which was very good.
Good lunch options (good portions and reasonable prices). Service on the weekend with the older white man as bar tender is the best. I go there pretty frequently.
I love this place but you need to be patient... Service is always slow... Always... BUT the food is great...
Food was excellent and came very quick. Only complaint is that our waiter would bring our food or drinks or whatever, put it on the table and then run away before we had time to ask for anything else. Took me three tries to get a glass of water.
Pretty good pan Asian with great happy hour deals
Arrived right on time for our reservation but had to wait 15 minutes to be seated in a half-full restaurant! Service was extremely slow and had to try to catch the waiter as he ran by whenever we needed anything!
Food was average at best. Only dined there because we were staying at the hotel next door for a graduation and didn't want to have to drive to dinner. With all the amazing restaurants in Boston - I would never go here again - I'll sacrifice and drive or take a taxi elsewhere!!
Our first time. Sushi and Sashimi Combos were good. Plated Cashew Shrimp with Pineapple was mediocre.... a lot of celery. Service good until waiter got tied up with a large party, then poor. We were never offered dessert. Free parking with validation in garage was a BIG plus for Boston!
Wide variety of Asian choices. Great value for sushi.
The atmosphere and the bar drinks were great, but the Pad Thai was lackluster. It was very bland and a poor representation of how great Pad Thai really is.
It was amazing and the food was delicious.
I made this reservation about a month ago.
I have been here a few times - the food is good and the service needs serious help.
Waiter didn't bring things we ordered/asked for. (plates, water, etc)
My reservation was a surprise Bday Event for a friend. When I arrived, the person Im assuming to be a manager comes to tell me How lucky I am that they were having an event that night (place turned into a night club) Why couldn't they move my party to the other side of the restaurant? Why couldn't i get more notice about this event?
we spent 400 dollars and couldnt hear each other.
We scheduled our New Year lunch at the place, had our reservation ready in advance, just to arrive and find a closed local within a rough neighborhood...
Cannot comment on the place itself, just on the poor Customer Service experience of not notifying reservation holders of them being closed!
Japanese food better than the Chinese food. Portion sizes fairly large and well priced
Half price sushi on weekends. Free garage parking. Awesome sushi. This place is a staple!
Best Chinese food and Sushi I have yet to have in Boston! So excited to have found ZC Boston.
Generous portions and delicious food at a decent price. Wait staff was a little slow at the beginning to take orders but the food came quick and hot! (party of 8)
Authentic food, simple yet tasteful decor. Will be high on the list to return if in Boston again.
The food was good, dead quiet in there (you could hear a pin drop), and the service was SHOCKINGLY slow. There was no one in there and it took us over an hour to get our food, and about 20 min for drinks.
We thoroughly enjoyed all of the food. The service was very quick, attentive, and well timed. Classy ambiance.
I came for my going away party because I absolutely loved the food and space. The server we got this time seemed like it was his first day because he kept forgetting to take orders and bring us drinks. He was nice, just forgetful
We went here for Valentine's Day and both really enjoyed it. The restaurant was moderately filled but was still quite quiet which was great. We had the General Gau's Chicken, beef Lo Mein, Gyoza, Crab Rangoons, and the Sashimi Sampler. Everything was delicious and we'll definitely be going back. Our waitress was very friendly, attentive, and funny. Overall it was a really great dinner.
I appreciate the freshness of the fresh sushi but it took way too long to be served..
The food was fantastic and we had a range of ethnic dishes including pad thai, seafood tempura, miso soup, peking ravioli and spring rolls and each dish was delicious. we were very pleasantly surprised with this restaurant and the service was great.
Third time not the charm. Everything was acceptable but not particularly outstanding this visit. Although we were a large party of 7, the place was not too busy and I had hoped for better service and food quality. No major blunders mind you, but not as good as the last two visits.
I looooved Roka!!! It had great sushi at relatively affordable prices, and the service was incredible. It was my birthday and the host and waitress went out of their way to make it special for me, including giving me a drink on the house! Will definitely be coming back again and again, great late night place.
The decor of the restaurant was very nice. The wait staff was slow. The food came out cold the first time and warm the second although it was tasty. I can only give it a fair review
Beyond the fusion of Chinese with Japanese, this restaurant also integrates a creative floor plan with high ceilings, relaxing curved space, and diverse seating and views from booths, tables and bar stools. The seafood is especially tasty and fresh, with sauces that bring out rather than overwhelm the meats, fishes, and vegetables. Our waitress Pam was delightful, giving us privacy while instinctively being nearby whenever we needed her. The dishes were very colorful, with bright green and red peppers, Chinese broccoli, and parsley for the palate. The wasabi was an island with a parsley tree sticking out, looking like a bonzai. The fusion of ambience, taste, smell, color, shapes made for a formidably strong experience.
Nice place, spacious, plus validated parking. Food wasn't bad...wasn't particularly good either. Steak dish was overpriced for what you get. Ika salad was a bit rubbery.
We went here for my daughter"s 21'st Birthday. There are many food choices to please everyone. The food and service were very good and so were the drinks. The staff was friendly and the owner came over to make sure everything was to our satisfaction. They brought over cheesecake and sang Happy Birthday to my daughter! We had a great time.
We got a decent bottle of white wine and some sushi rolls. Random sushi rolls there was a paper slip to mark off your rolls and instead of those we were brought a random selection. When asking the waiter after he just kind of smiled and said we ordered it and maybe we forgot. All three rolls (spicy tiuna, salmon and yellowtail) were all the same dull red minced filling that looked like it was squeezed from a tube. I'm not a frequent sushi eater, but I have never seen the fish minced into a paste. It was unappetixing in both visual appeal as well as mouth feel. My friend very succinctly stated it was an "Underwhelming experience"
Have been here before a few times. This time the food was not as good. Change in Chef? The sushi and maki rolls are the best bet. Very pretty, very clean, great parking, very pretty setting. Large group was VERY loud and sound carried in room on Mass Ave. We could not really talk without leaning in and yelling. Next time would sit in other room.
This was my first time going to Roka. The sushi was amazing. We ordered a couple of our favorites: California Roll and Spicy Salmon Roll. We also ordered two special rolls which were fantastic. For appetizers we chose Hot and Sour Soup and edamame. The soup was also delicious. I will definitely return. The restaurant was quiet, perhaps because we went on a weeknight, but it was very nice to be able to have a conversation in a restaurant in Boston without the loud crowd.
Free parking across the street. Good service, very pleasant helpful waiter
Each sushi order was fresh, plentiful & well presented. Prices very reasonable.
730 on a Sat nite, 1/2 empty same when left @ 9:15. Location is out of the way.
Nice ambiance but place was COLD this night.
Definitely worth another visit.
the sushi is good, and the ambience is nice.
we were very pleased with our experience. The waiter was very knowledgeable and helped us find our way through the menu. Food was great - would recommend to friends.
We found this place to be falling short in many ways. Their menu isn't up to date and lists sake's they don't even carry any longer. The room is lit by fluorescent lighting and tacky white Christmas lights that blink often and are quite disturbing. There's no music in the background which this place could really use. We felt like we were in a hospital cafeteria. The sushi was fair but not good enough to draw me back. Service was fair but not the best. I wouldn't choose to return here. Unfortunately for this restaurant, there are too many other places with good sushi, better ambiance, and an overall better experience to have. I was excited to find here and left never wanting to return. I don't see this place lasting for too long.
Terrific sushi! One of the best sushi restaurants in Boston. Wide selection. Great quality. Nice service.
Food and service was great. Our entire table was pleased with the food. The ambiance was gorgeous and esthetically pleasing. There is a nice private dining area which is perfect for large groups.
The food was pretty good, that's all I have to say for this restaurant. When we were seated it took 20 minutes before our waitress even introduced herself to us, and this set the tone for the remainder of the evening. We ordered drinks (just two glasses of wine) and appetizers at the same time; our appetizers came out in a timely fashion, however, it took another 20 minutes for our wine to come out. We ordered edamame and seaweed salad; although the edamame was good the seaweed salad was made up of half seaweed and the rest regular lettuce. Finally, 50 minutes into sitting down the waitress took our order for Sushi, only for her to come over later and tell us she lost the menu used to check off what we wanted.
